Today's tea aficionado is looking to imbibe tea within a meaningful
space, be it at home or in a tea shop. Customers of tea shops enjoy
the idea of "tea" as being "an experience", inclusive of art,
cultural themes, and strong design aesthetics. Better still if
these motifs are found within a tea-shop that aligns with the
shop's branding and is able to mix modern tea products with new
interior design styles, further increasing the customer's sense of
enjoyment of the entire shopping experience. Coupled with tea
consumption needs across the world gradually increasing and the tea
market expanding at higher rates than previously, the tea
industry's retail environment faces fierce competition. There's a
strong trend toward marrying a better awareness of the importance
of effective interior design of a tea shop while striving to
express a complete brand image and providing efficient service. In
this magnificently illustrated book, a lead designer and tea brand
consultant analyses the new design trends and brand management
styles of a carefully selected group of tea shops from around the
world. This book explores close to fifty fashionable tea shops that
are successful in the experimentation of mixing brand-new products
with unique space experiences and providing excellent
customer-focused interior designs. An excellent volume for those
looking to enrich the retail environment of this diverse and
fast-evolving industry.
From a huge former cold storage plant located in a remote corner of
Chile and a sugar refinery in rural China to a hundred-year-old
belt factory in Chicago, the book profiles over 25 truly
exceptional hotels and boutique boltholes around the world, all of
which are situated in refurbished industrial buildings. These are
destinations for design enthusiasts. Each hotel demonstrates the
exciting potential of old industrial buildings for modern day
accommodation and provides decorative inspiration that can be taken
and applied at home. Hotel To Home is an invaluable travel
companion when selecting hotels that offer truly memorable escapes,
detailing the fascinating histories, the architectural quirks and
amenities that establish these hotels as some of the world's most
unique places to stay.

The world of retail design operates with a dynamism not often

construction methods. Contemporary Retail Design: A Store Planner's
Handbook provides a comprehensive overview of the store planning
process and is an essential companion for anyone embarking on a
retail design project. Written from the perspective of the
designer, it contains practical guidance on every step of the

of best practice, and is illustrated with 200 drawings and
photographs from a wide variety of stores around the world.

that have endured to the present day. Illustrated throughout with

The Art of Japanese Architecture presents a complete overview of
Japanese architecture in its historical and cultural context. The
book begins with a discussion of early prehistoric dwellings and
concludes with a description of works by important modern Japanese
architects. Along the way it discusses the iconic buildings and
architectural styles for which Japan is so justly famous--from
elegant Shinden and Sukiya aristocratic villas like the Kinkakuji
"Golden Pavilion" in Kyoto, to imposing Samurai castles like Himeji
and Matsumoto, and tranquil Zen Buddhist gardens and tea houses to
rural Minka thatched-roof farmhouses and Shinto shrines. Each
period in the development of Japan's architecture is described in
detail and the most important structures are shown and
discussed--including dozens of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The
aesthetic trends in each period are presented within the context of
Japanese society at the time, providing a unique in-depth
understanding of the way Japanese architectural styles and
buildings have developed over time and the great variety that is
visible today. The book is profusely illustrated with hundreds of
hand-drawn 3D watercolor illustrations and color photos as well as
prints, maps and diagrams. The new edition features dozens of new
photographs and a handy hardcover format that is perfect for
travelers.
The name of Robert Adam is today equated, as it was by his
contemporaries, with taste, style and elegance. Since his death,
the term 'Adamesque' has been used to describe not only ceilings,
doorways and fireplaces but objects as various as the City Hall in
Charleston and a chamber-pot. A university drop-out, Adam still
made his own scholarly contribution to the understanding of
classical architecture and was a talented painter as well. As
visionary in the decoration of interiors as he was ingenious in the
design of exteriors, Adam was more often responsible for the
renovation, alteration or completion of existing buildings than for
the creation of entirely new ones. Best known perhaps for his work
on great private palaces such as Syon and Kenwood, Osterley and
Kedleston, Saltram and Culzean, Adam was also responsible for
churches and tombs, monuments and market-halls and for such public
commissions as the Admiralty Screen in Whitehall and Britain's
first purpose-built public archive, The Register House in
Edinburgh.
As the globe shrinks and the concept of distance diminishes, this
text challenges the current status quo by identifying the cohesions
and specialisations of design communities across the continents. It
sets out an international spatial design landscape, identifying and
contouring global design practice and design hotspots from a range
of case studies, interviews and design practice perspectives. Using
a range of interior environments, the chapters link the origins,
trends and perceptions of the interior to create new insight into
trans-global design. The book expands, but also coheres the
interior design discipline to ensure the subject continues to grow,
develop and influence the inhabitations of the world. The book
features a wealth of pedagogical elements including: Beautifully
designed with over 100 full colour illustrations, photographs and
examples of design work Maps and diagrams which highlight hotspots
of design across the globe, providing strong graphic information
Interview panels featuring professional insights from designers
across the globe 'Employability' boxes, providing a good tips guide
for students gaining employment across the globe 'International
Dimension' boxes which strengthen the scholarship of studying
interior design in a globalised way 'Design Oddities' box which
brings into focus any new or contextual facts that help
contextualise the global interior.
