Good food could never be perfect without a savory design. A
successful visual design is already a great appetizer before you
step in a dinning place. Graphic designers could be legitimately
acclaimed as chefs that make inedible delicacy.
Wunderkammern are showing up everywhere these days. Design
webshops, expos, interior design stores: they all try to bring back
the memory of the century-old tradition of Wunderkammer, or 'the
Cabinet of Curiosities'. This book is a Wunderkammer in itself,
showcasing the most beautiful exotica, which explorers and
adventurous merchants brought back from all over the world for rich
collectors. Be amazed by beautiful seashells, stuffed animals,
sculptured ostrich eggs, botanical drawings, 'dragons' preserved in
formaldehyde, and bewildering Indiana Jones-like stories. A
fascinating New World presented itself to them, and in this book,
you'll see it through their eyes.
Residential Kitchen and Bath Design provides students with a core
knowledge of this interior design sub-specialty and equips them
with skills they can use to create residential kitchens and baths
that are both functional and beautiful. The text begins with an
overview of the kitchen and bath industries, covering the
designer's role at each step of the design process. It then goes on
to explain functional and ergonomic considerations in the
arrangement of appliances, fixtures, and storage, and provides
detailed instruction on communicating designs to clients and
tradespeople using floor plans, models, and other renderings.
Issues related to codes, regulations, and costs are reviewed, as
are the NKBA planning guidelines for space planning and drawing
plans for kitchens and bathrooms.
Sterne * her vorgehoben."
If there is one room in your house that deserves a little luxury,
it is the bathroom. Whether we like to talk about it or not, the
time we spend in the bathroom is precious. It's where some of our
most intimate moments take place. So not only should it function
well, it should be designed for optimal comfort and luxury. While
some bathrooms are grand enough to have all the fixings like
walk-in showers, smaller bathrooms can still make a decor splash.
High On...Bathroom Design presents around 30 architects and
interior designers with their latest bathroom projects. From the
minimalist bathroom with clear shapes to the most opulent
facilities, the bathroom is increasingly being used for well-being
with a built-in sauna and a relaxation area with a beautiful view.
But smaller, function-oriented bathrooms that are stylishly
designed are also shown in this book.
English country house style looms large in the collective
imagination, inspiring fantasies of life in a centuries-old manor
house, overlooking verdant hills dotted with sheep. This book
allows us to enter some of the most exceptional of England s
historic houses that are lived in and decorated for today by their
imaginative owners and designers. Jeremy Musson and Hugo Rittson
Thomas have assembled a stunning collection of twenty charming
homes that reveal a remarkable wealth of taste and style
inspiration, both inside and out, ranging from traditional and
classic to contemporary and bohemian, with examples including
Haddon Hall, Smedmore, Court of Noke, and The Laskett. Musson s
text illuminates the history of each home, showing how each has
become a canvas upon which its owner has deeply imprinted their
personality. Essays on furniture, gardens, and color expand upon
three essential components of country style. Rittson Thomas s
superb photography captures the telling details in natural-lit
interiors and exquisite gardens. This volume is sure to appeal to
Instagram fanatics and traditionalists alike.
An invaluable resource on English furniture, interiors, and
household objects, drawn from antique pattern books, swatch books,
and manufacturers' and retailers' catalogues.
From about 1700, English design, craftsmanship, and production
techniques inspired admiration and imitation throughout the Western
world. The designers of the period and their associated
manufacturers created a legacy almost unmatched in the history of
the decorative arts.
Drawing upon an impressive array of sources, "English Style and
Decoration" offers a cornucopia of design riches. Alongside the
work of famous and familiar taste-makers such as Chippendale and
Wedgwood, this sumptuous, profusely illustrated reference book also
contains hundreds of original designs developed in workshops and
factories throughout England. Lavishly illustrated, it presents
original sketches and printed patterns for furniture, textiles,
flooring, wallpaper, glass, ceramics, and household utensils, from
doorknobs to tableware to light fittings.
This unrivaled resource, now republished in a compact format, will
provide a wealth of ideas and inspiration for designers, restorers,
and interior decorators. 600+ designs and patterns in color and
black-and-white. Previously titled "The English Archive of Design
and Decoration" in hardcover.
In 2005 the author graduated with distinction from De Montfort
University in Leicester, UK, with a Masters degree by independent
study in South Asian arts. The contents of this book, which make up
Volume 2 of two volumes on Indian Temple architecture, are based
upon research carried out for her dissertation on temples built
under the medieval Hoysala Dynasty of Karnataka. Volume 1 consists
of five essays that give an introduction to the art and
architecture of South Indian temples. Whilst the original findings
and conclusions are intended to be of use to students and
researchers, the book will also add an extra dimension for anyone
intending to visit southern India or who is interested in sacred
medieval architecture.
The experience of architectural spaces is formed by the way they
are staged. The Drama of Space examines the composition and
articulation of architectural spaces in terms of spatial
dramaturgy, as a repertoire of means and strategies for shaping
spatial experience. This fundamental approach to architectural
design is presented in four parts: Archetypal principles of spatial
composition are traced from the study of three assembly buildings
of the early modern period in Venice. Theatre, film, music, and
theory provide background knowledge on dramaturgy. Detailed
analyses of 18 international case studies offer new perspectives on
contemporary architecture. The book ends with a systematic
presentation of the dramaturgy of space, its parameters and tools,
in architectural design.
