Weaving mid-century Continental furniture and modern art by the
likes of Frank Stella and Jasper Johns into important American
homes, Summers has created a vast collection of cohesive, covetable
interiors notable for their streamlined beauty. From a contemporary
city penthouse to a 1940s ranch, from Summers Round House, to her
60s Palm Springs getaway, the homes featured range in period and
style, but all will serve as inspiration to readers looking to
decorate in a Modernist tradition. Summers shares her building
blocks of a great modernist house: how the interior should reflect
its setting; how to combine fine art with design; why the interior
and architecture must be linked; how to build collections; how to
modernize traditional houses; and how to restore existing modernist
houses. This is essential reading for fans of modernism and
minimalism.
The Basics Interior Design series comprises a collection of titles
examining the application of interior design principles to
different types of space. Packed with cutting-edge examples and
fully illustrated with clear diagrams and inspiring imagery, they
offer an essential introduction to the subject. This second edition
of Retail Design examines the latest developments in the
contemporary retail design sector worldwide. It guides the reader
step by step through the retail design process, providing
strategies that can produce a successful retail space and a design
that is appropriate for the brand, product, consumer and retailer.
A new chapter exploring consumer behaviour is combined with clear
explanations of branding and identity, to provide the starting
point for the design concept. The relationship between the interior
and its context, site and setting is then examined, alongside
in-depth investigations of layout, circulation and pace and other
design considerations. Fully updated with new international case
studies and expanded coverage on sustainability, interactivity, and
innovative design concepts - this new edition of Retail Design
offers cutting-edge insights into the practice of contemporary
retail design and shows designers how to meet and exceed the
expectations of today's clients and consumers.

furniture products are developed, marketed, and presented to
targeted retailers and consumers. Bennington focuses on developing
an appreciation for furniture as a functional art form. This new

design periods, product development, and manufacturing. The text
also explains how to sell furniture through pricing, promotion, and
distribution. Residential furniture is the main focus of Furniture
Marketing, but there is a chapter on contract furniture. This book

and experienced employees of manufacturers, retailers, and
wholesalers.
Source Books in Architecture No.14: Rem Koolhaas / OMA + AMO Spaces
for Prada is the most recent volume in the Source Books in
Architecture series. Among the topics discussed in the book are the
longstanding relationship with Prada and how the early objectives
in that relationship have both maintained and shifted. An
underlying theme to the conversations held with students and
faculty of the Knowlton School community is the topic of architect
client relationships, their history, their problems, and how they
have contributed to the discipline over time. Explicitly, a focus
of the conversation is on a number of projects that OMA has
developed or completed with Prada, a large number of which are
installation scale environments that manifest in the form of runway
shows and exhibitions. The challenge of such projects is to retain
a commitment to the political and cultural agenda that OMA embeds
in the larger and permanent buildings. Given the ephemerality and
role of these environments as literal backgrounds to highlighted
events, the projects are ideal scenarios in which to develop an
architecture that lacks the permanence of buildings while still
carrying potency and contributing to larger cultural discussions
involving, for example, event, place, concept, product, staging,
the crowd, lighting, and materiality. Source Books in Architecture
No.14 contains project documentation from the OMA and Prada
archives, transcripts from Koolhaas' conversations with students at
the Knowlton School at The Ohio State University, and commentary
and critique from architects, critics, and theorists.
The world is full of houses. Big houses and little houses. Houses that stay in one place and houses that move from place to place. Some houses are made of wood or stone; others are made from mud or straw. But all of them are made for families to live in.
This comprehensive text introduces the reader to the entire process
of planning residential interiors. Extensive full-color photos and
diagrams augment the text to explain what an interior designer

electricians, and plumbers, to meet clients' housing needs. The
focus on contemporary American housing trends is enriched with
references to interiors from the past and from other countries.
"Historic Preservation for Designers" offers a comprehensive
overview of historic preservation with a focus on historic
interiors, historic building materials, and the adaptive reuse of
interiors. This text includes a brief history of preservation in
the United States, criteria to determine whether a building is
historic, a discussion of preservation law, and how to document
historic buildings with a focus on design and understanding
functional and aesthetic requirements. The text explores issues
including building restoration and rehabilitation standards,
adaptive reuse principles, and codes and accessibility
requirements. Designers will discover timely information on
inspecting historic buildings to determine their age and condition
as well as the growing relationship between historic preservation,
green design, and the environment.

Beyond the beauty that plants can bring into our homes, there is an
ever-changing element that fills our living environments and our
souls like a rite of rejuvenation. Plants bring vitality, growth
and good vibes. When we invite plants into our home, we breathe
cleaner air and we are happier. Caring for them is to nurture our
relationship with nature and a reminder that we evolved from it. Go
Green provides readers with a beautifully illustrated look at a
wide variety of indoor plants - from herbs to air plants - and
provides both essential care and maintenance tips, alongside ideas

Interior design can be considered a discipline that ranks among the
worlds of art, design, and architecture and provides the cognitive
tools to operate innovatively within the spaces of the contemporary
city that require regeneration. Emerging trends in design combine
disciplines such as new aesthetic in the world of art, design in
all its ramifications, interior design as a response to more than
functional needs, and as the demand for qualitative and symbolic
values to be added to contemporary environments. Cultural,
Theoretical, and Innovative Approaches to Contemporary Interior
Design is an essential reference source that approaches
contemporary project development through a cultural and theoretical
lens and aims to demonstrate that designing spaces, interiors, and
the urban habitat are activities that have independent cultural
foundations. Featuring research on topics such as contemporary
space, mass housing, and flexible design, this book is ideally
designed for interior designers, architects, academics,
researchers, industry professionals, and students.
"Meeting Matteo, over 10 years ago in Hoxton Square has led me to
develop a genuine respect and curiosity about his work and
approach. I was excited and apprehensive when I decided to write
his story. Such a responsibility. This book is not simply about
Matteo's transformation from Marketing to the world of Interior
Design over the past decade, but more about what inspires and
drives someone and how they get through it. "From nothing, Matteo
has created a design studio with a reputation for elegance, quality
and quirkiness. I feel lucky to have been allowed such unlimited
access, which has brought me closer to Matteo. I hope what I have
discovered keeps you turning the pages, as I know that there is a
lot more to come. Have a look for yourself." Matteo Bianchi is an
award-winning Interior and Product Designer with an entrepreneurial
flair. Born in Venice, Italy, Bianchi's inherent passion for design
