In February of 1936, Dr. Ferdinand Porsche designed a civilian car for
use on the German Autobahn. Surprisingly, almost none of these cars
were made available to private citizens. The Wehrmacht began secretly
appropriating these vehicles for military use. In January 1938, the
Wehrmacht presented Dr. Porsche with the specifications for a military
version. That November, the prototype was completed and designated the
Pkw. K1 (VW-Kubelwagen). The Kubelwagen Type 82 was equipped with a
lightweight monocoque body on a torsion bar spring based four wheel
independent suspension. Its powerplant consisted of an air-cooled four
cylinder 985cc engine, which outputted 23.5hp. Its tremendous
performance led to its wide use as a communications vehicle by
Wehrmacht units. Because of its reliability and ease of repair, and
since its engine did not require a coolant, the Kubelwagen proved
particulary effective in North Africa. At the request of various
divisions in North Africa for a vehicle suitable for the desert, a
Continental balloon tire equipped version went into production from
1942. Two types of balloon tires, a grooved and an ungrooved version
were used. Because the tires were wider than normal tires, a spacer to
raise the height of a spare tire attachment was added to the hood of
the car. Some of the balloon tire equipped Type 82 were even used in
Italy after the fighting in North Africa stopped in May of 1943.
Including variations, about 51,000 Kubelwagen Type 82 were produced by
the end of the war.

Artesania Latina presents their brand new Sopwith Camel in 1/16 scale,
one of the most detailed and historically accurate replicas on the
market. This kit uses metal and wood to build the aircraft just as the
real one. This British WWI biplane fighter aircraft was the biggest
enemy of the Fokker DR.1 The Artesania Sopwith Camel F1 1918 wooden
aircraft model kit is highly realistic with many fine details and
accurately recreates one of the most famous aircraft of World War One.
This model kit recreates the M551 Sheridan Armored
Reconnaissance/Airborne Assault Vehicle (AR/AAV). The M551 was designed
as airdrop capable armor with wading capabilities, a key concept as the
U.S. took on the role of global policeman post WWII. With an aluminum
hull and rolled steel turret, it weighed just 15 tons, but had
impressive firepower in the shape of the M81 152mm gun/launcher, which
could fire standard rounds and MGM-51 Shillelagh missiles. The M551 was
in service with active units from 1968 to 1996, and saw action in the
jungles of Vietnam.
Based on the design of the previous single-seat radial engine fighter
Curtiss P-36, the Curtiss P-40 has become one of the most famous and
used aircraft of the Second World War. Between 1941 and 1944 he also
played a key role in many operational theaters from North Africa to
Italy, from China to the South Pacific. Characterized by a very robust
and reliable aerodynamic structure, the Curtiss P-40 was equipped with
an Allison V-12 engine, capable of delivering more than 1,150 HP.
Thanks to it, the Curtiss P-40 was able to reach the speed of 580 Km /
h. It served as air superiority fighter and fighter bomber. One of the
most successful version was the P-40E. Used by U.S. fighter squadrons
and, as Kittyhawk , by Commonwealth Air Forces, the P-40E was heavily
armed with six 12.7 mm. M2 Browning machine guns installed in the
wings. Furthermore, thanks to its under wings hardpoints, able to carry
nearly 900 Kg. of bombs, it was also able to satisfy close air support
duties.

During World War II, the Russian Armed Forces consisted of five main
elements; the Ground Forces, Navy, Air Force, National Air Defense and
Armed Forces Support. The Ground Forces represented about 80 percent of
the total manpower, being the largest in strength. It had approximately
5,300,000 military effectives at the outbreak of the Russo-German War
in June 1941. However, devastating damage brought by the German
Mechanized Forces resulted in more than 70 percent losses of its entire
troop strength within five months. This led to rapid reorganization of
the Ground Forces, and with a help of the harsh winter climate of
Russia, they managed to repel German's advance just in front of Moscow.
Due to the heavy losses, reorganized units became much smaller than
before. Rifle Forces (infantry) reduced their divisional strength from
14,483 to 10,859. Tank Divisions, which possessed some 20,000 armoured
vehicles, lost about 70% of them at the initial stage of war. Most
surviving Tank Divisions were disbanded, and the available tanks and
crews were re-assigned to much smaller units like independent tank
battalions or tank brigades. It was in 1945, just prior to the end of
the conflict, that the Russian Armed Forces recuperated the pre-war
level of their strength.
The main strength of the Russian counter-offensive was their tank
troops. Following concentrated fire by their artillery units, the tank
troops advanced in three groups, and many infantrymen rode on the tanks
of the 2nd and 3rd groups. This infantry practice was unique to Russian
tactics and was called "Tankoviy Desant" by the Russians. Since the
Russian Ground Forces did not possess armored troop carriers like the
German halftracks, an infantry battalion called the 'Motor Rifle Unit"
was attached to every tank brigade and assigned to close support the
tanks. A Motor Rifle Unit consisted of about 500 infantrymen. PPSh-41
or PPS-43 machine guns as support arms. Soldiers carried as many
magazines as possible, and advanced while riding on tanks. Once
encountering an enemy's defensive position, infantrymen would disembark
from the tank, attack the position, and then return to the tank. These
infantrymen were spearheads of the attack, and due to enemy's defensive
fire, liable to sustain heavy casualties.
The standard uniform of the Russian infantrymen during WW2 was a simple
blouse called "Gymnastiorka". Early in the conflict, greatcoats and
rain capes were often used as wintertime attire. In 1940, a quilted
jacket called "Telogreika" was introduced, but not enough quantities
were supplied in the beginning.

The UH-1N was developed from a project of the US based Bell Helicopter company at the end of the 60s. In Italy, a similar version is produced on license by Agusta Westland under the designation AB-212. The AB-212 is a medium, two-blade rotor powered by two Pratt & Whitney PT6T turbo shaft power turbines providing 1.342 Kw. It is a development of model 205, the main difference being an elongated fuselage. In the first half of the 2000s, the AB 212 was massively updated to enhance its operational capacity. It has been fitted with two 7,62mm swivelling machine guns on the tailgates, and the defensive equipment has been upgraded with antimissile flare launchers and additional ceramic and kevlar armour to protect the crew. Italian AB 212s with this upgraded configuration are employed since 2006 in Afghanistan, in the International Security Assistance Force mission.
The Mk. V version of the spitfire was introduced with the Royal Air force in 1941 in order to replace the preceding Mk. I, the backbone of the battle of Britain. This model was extensively used on all theatres until the end of the war despite the appearance of more modern aircraft. Its manoeuvrability and sturdiness made it possible to successfully oppose most enemy aircraft. This Spitfire version employed in North Africa was characterized by various anti-sand filters used for the main air intake in order to operate from improvised desert airfields.
Tamiya introduces its highly popular masking tape in a new and handy way to mask off larger areas in the painting process, for example R/C car bodies. The masking tape comes pre-attached to plastic sheeting, and when folded out it has a width of 550mm.
Tamiya masking tape attaches securely to the surface to be covered, protecting it from unwanted paint and giving sharply defined edges. It peels off easily once the object has been painted.
Length: 10m.
This robust helicopter was first introduced during the mid-fifties and may be the best known rotor-blade aircraft world-wide. Reliability is its greatest feature. It was designed for the U.S. Army during the Vietnam war. Thousands of UH-1s are in service as transport, ambulance and attack aircraft. Licensed production in Italy, Germany and Japan make it part of the armed and police forces of more than fifty nations. Presently twin-engine versions are being produced.
History of the Arab Dhow:
Discover Sultan, a wooden model ship of this traditional Arabian dhow
from the coasts of the Arabian Peninsula, India and East Africa. This
boat was the primary instrument in the commerce and in the propagation
of the Islamic faith. Also, the dhow was mainly used as cargo ship:
grain, fish, minerals and even slaves.
The exact origin of the dhow is unknown, although its appearance seems
to be linked to Islam. Revolutionary in naval history for its
triangular sails and practically unchanged since its initial designs,
it is believed that the dhow was the germ for the construction of
Venetian galleys and caravels, favoring the creation of larger ships
with mixed sails. The dhows are still sailing along the shores of the
Indian Ocean.

HISTORY OF HMS BOUNTY AND ITS JOLLY
BOAT: ITS WOODEN MODEL
Discover the HMS Bounty Jolly Boat, wooden model of the boat in which
William Bligh was shipped with 18 loyal sailors after the riot of its
crew of the HMS Bounty.
In December 1787, HMS Bounty left England bound for Haiti to transport
bread trees to the Caribbean, a great storm which forced them to change
course, arriving in Haiti with months of delay. This delay forced them
to remain on the island several months until it was again possible to
collect the shoots from the bread tree. In this room the crew became
habituated to the customs of the natives and established relations with
women of Haiti, almost forgetting their condition of English sailors.
After many difficulties on the part of Bligh to reimpose the discipline
undertook trip the 4 of April of 1789, producing the mutiny 24 days
later. Bligh sailed more than 3,500 nautical miles for 47 days to the
port of the Dutch colony of Coupang, losing only one of his men on the
voyage.
Guided by our detailed step-by-step instructions you can complete your
replica or scale model of this navigation legend.

In the United States, stagecoaches ran between Boston and Rhode Island as early as 1716, but no further design developed until the middle of that century. But the stagecoach as we all now recognise it was developed much later on. They were almost the only public cross-county transportation available to the vast majority of the population. However it was during the development of the West that the famous Stagecoaches really made their mark. The majority of them in the West came to be under contract to the U.S. government to carry mails, notices of new legislation, payrolls to the troops, transferring money, but passengers were always carries on different stages.
