American Basses profiles the leading builders of bass guitars in
the U.S. and illustrates the tremendous range of instruments
currently available, as well as providing invaluable playing and
maintenance tips from top builders. It begins with an introductory
essay covering the invention and development of the bass guitar,
focusing on such milestones as the introduction of the Fender bass,
the proliferation of bass guitars in the 1960s, the development of
the first Alembic bass, and the ongoing refinement of the
instrument, as expressed in extended-range basses and high-end
custom instruments. The main body of the book is a series of
alphabetical listings, from A Basses to Zon, each offering
essential information about the work of a bass builder or
manufacturer, plus tips on set-up and playing for each instrument.
Each profile is illustrated by colour photos.

for solo piano This short piano suite was written in response to
the Covid-19 lockdown and features Chilcott's celebrated jazz style
in three movements: 'Bobbing along', 'Becky's Song' and 'Walking
with Ollie'. With a swing and a hop in the outer movements and rich
harmonies in between, A Little Jazz Piano is wonderfully suited for
younger pianists looking for something different.
for solo piano Featuring sparse textures, quirky endings, and
intuitive phrasing, these 24 Preludes and Fugues, in all the keys,
bear the hallmarks of Skempton's Minimalist style. This set is
well-suited for performance but also for pianists wishing to

The John Rutter Christmas Piano Album brings together eight of the
composer's best-loved seasonal choral pieces as piano
transcriptions, made by John Rutter himself, for performance use or
enjoyment at home. Designed for pianists at early intermediate
level, the collection provides skilful and approachable
arrangements of festive favourites such as 'Angels' Carol' and
'What sweeter music' and of the more recent 'Colours of Christmas'
and 'Christ our Emmanuel'. The gentle 'Mary's Lullaby', meanwhile,
features a newly written Epilogue, a homage to George Shearing and
evoking the style of this celebrated jazz pianist. Clearly
presented and laid out, the transcriptions also include the texts
(lyrics) within the piano score, for reference or potential
sing-alongs. From the composer who has become synonymous with
Christmas, this versatile collection is a joyous celebration of the
season. The pieces in this collection have been recorded by Wayne
Marshall on Decca Records.
Electroacoustic music, a flourishing medium for over half a
century, remains today, in a wide array of technological forms, one
of the major areas of creative activity in music. However, it has
long been overlooked in theoretical studies--possibly in part
because it does away with traditional scores and notation. In this
landmark collection, a group of distinguished composers and
theorists who have actively worked in the field present detailed
analyses of important electroacoustic works while also
demonstrating some recent approaches to the analysis of the music
of this medium. Included here are discussions of such significant
works as Karlheinz Stockhausen's "Gesang der Junglinge "(1955/56),
Iannis Xenakis' "Diamorphoses" (1957), and Jean-Claude Risset's
"Contours" (1982). Overall, the collection aims to elucidate the
sonic design of each of the electroacoustic music works under
investigation, using its best examples as a lens through which to
examine an unduly neglected genre.
Demonstrating recent techniques in the analysis of
electroacoustic music, the volume also considers various
compositional approaches as well as computer applications that have
become an irreplaceable tool in the composing of this music. So
little has been written about this 20th-century art form that
Electroacoustic Music: Analytical Perspectives is at once a fresh,
bold step forward in musicology and analysis.
Featuring chapters on physics, structure, sound and design
specifics, "Technology of the Guitar" also includes coverage of
historical content, composition of strings and their effects on
sound quality, and important designs. Additionally, author Mark
French discusses case studies of historically significant and
technologically innovative instruments.
This is a complete reference useful for a broad range of readers
including guitar manufacturer employees, working luthiers, and
interested guitar enthusiasts who do not have a science or
engineering background.

This powerful piece, dating from 2010, shows off the full resources
of any organ it is played on. Its driving rhythms and exhilarating,
often bitonal, harmonies recall such French organist-composers as
Langlais and Messiaen, and while there is often an improvisatory
feel, the music is far from formless, and its carefully planned
structure contributes crucially to its success.
