for SATB (with divisions) and piano or organ The third movement of
McDowall's powerful Da Vinci Requiem, I obey thee, O Lord is a
compelling pairing of the 'Lacrimosa' text from the Latin Missa pro
defunctis with extracts from the Notebooks of Leonardo da Vinci,
and has a poignant, tender simplicity. The composer has reworked
the keyboard part from the parent work to facilitate performance by
piano or organ.
for SATB with organ or piano introduction This motet sets a text
from John Bunyan's The Pilgrim's Progress, in which Mr
Valiant-for-Truth poignantly meditates on the subject of his own
approaching death. The work concludes with the protagonist passing
into heaven with the choir emulating 'the trumpets [sounding] for
him on the other side'. Over a decade later in 1951, Vaughan
Williams's operatic adaptation of The Pillgrim's Progress was
performed for the first time, reflecting his continued fondness for
Bunyan's tale.
Musicians, conductors, students, and researchers can now have a
list of conductor-related holdings and where to find them right at
their fingertips. The Directory of Conductors' Archives in American
Institutions lists the components and the locations of papers owned
and collected by conductors in the United States. Papers found from
many places across America are brought together and listed in this
single volume. Collections from historical societies, orchestra
archives, American libraries, and private collections are all
included to help the researcher or music lover locate materials
that are difficult to find in standard sources. Author Henry Bloch
has carefully compiled the entries in the book, listing all aspects
of the collections, including full scores and parts;
correspondence, scrapbooks, and business papers; still and moving
visual images; and sound recordings. Separated in to two parts,
Part I lists conductors alphabetically, citing all the details of
their collections, while Part II is organized alphabetically by
state and institution. Some entries include a notes section, which
lists additional materials or an archive's accessibility to
researchers. All pertinent location and contact information,
including curators, is also included. Cultural institutions and
individuals alike will greatly benefit from this invaluable
reference tool.

The Beatles loom large over the musical landscape even now that
nearly a half-century has passed since the four men from Liverpool
played their last notes together. While the story of their stunning
rise and brief but brilliant time together on top of the pop music
world is undoubtedly fascinating, it would ring hollow without the
scores of incredible songs that accompanied each milestone. These
songs are the focus of rock writer Jim Beviglia's latest foray into
the catalogs of rock royalty. Counting Down the Beatles: Their 100
Finest Songs features Beviglia's list of the best songs in the
band's unparalleled oeuvre. Ranked in descending order from #100 to
#1, each song is accompanied by a lengthy essay providing
information on the song's writing and recording, context on where
it falls within the band's timeline, and the author's analysis and
explanation why it deserves its position in this hallowed canon.
Every fan of the Beatles, from attendees at their first U.S.tour to
the newest generation's devotees, will find this collection an
informative, insightful, and entertaining adventure. Not only will
it reveal little-known facts, but it just may start some arguments
and settle a few debates.
for soprano and baritone soloists, SATB, and full orchestra or
string orchestra with piano Drawing upon the Bible, sections from
the Mass, and poems by Walt Whitman, this is a powerful musical
evocation of the destruction and death brought about through war
and violence, with an overarching message of peace and
reconciliation. It was composed in 1936, a time when war was
threatening to engulf Europe once again, and the title, which
translates as 'Give us peace', is as relevant now as it was when
the work was premiered in 1936. Featuring some of the composer's
most potent music (both serene and violent), it makes an affecting
plea. Materials for the full orchestra version and an accompaniment
for strings and piano are available on hire.
SIX the musical by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss has been hailed as,
'the most uplifting piece of new British musical theatre' (The
Evening Standard) and is the phenomenon everyone is losing their
head over! Critically acclaimed across the UK with a soundtrack
storming up the UK pop charts, the sell-out intoxicating musical
tells the story of the six wives of Henry VIII. This official Easy
Piano songbook remixes five hundred years of historical heartbreak
into a celebration of 21st century girl power, with easy
arrangements of all nine songs from the show specially arranged by
the SIX Musical Supervisor, Joe Beighton. Special content includes
an introduction about the songs and costume illustrations.
A series of little books of short carefully graded folk tunes
beginning with the simplest passages and progressing to more
difficult leaps, rhythms, chromatics, and modulations. The later
books introduce two-part sight singing.
for SA and piano In this charming piece for upper voices and piano,
Ramsey's characterization of the fairy's monologue from Act 2,
Scene 1 of A Midsummer Night's Dream is both fun and imaginative.
The rhythmic fluidity, driving piano part, and clever accentuation
perfectly complement Shakespeare's metre and rhyme scheme and bring
the text to life. Over hill, over dale was originally published in
the collection Hark, hark, the lark.
During the American Civil War, songs united and inspired people on
both sides. The North had a well-established music publishing
industry when the war broke out, but the South had no such
industry. The importance of music as an expression of the South's
beliefs was obvious; as one music publisher said, 'The South must
not only fight her own battles but sing her own songs and dance to
music composed by her own children'. Southern entrepreneurs quickly
rose to the challenge. This reference book is distinguished by
three major differences from previously published works. First, it
lists sheet music that is no longer extant (and listed nowhere
else). Second, it gives complete lyrics for all extant songs, a
rich source for researchers. And third, a brief historical
background has been provided for many of the songs. Each entry
provides as much of the following as possible (staying faithful to
the typography of each title page): the title as published, names
of all lyricists, composers and publishers; dates of publication;
cities of publication; and, if applicable, the names of catalogs or
magazines in which the song appeared. Music published in Southern
cities under Federal occupation is excluded.
for women's voices and strings
