Ampersand Museum Series Pastelbord is a clay and gesso coated hardboard panel with a granular marble dust finish comparable to a sanded pastel paper, except more durable and more versatile. It can be used with wet or dry traditional pastel techniques or with acrylics, and more. The coating is pH neutral and non-yellowing, making it a truly permanent museum quality surface.

Sennelier Soft Pastel Card is an artist quality high tooth texture pastel card with a velvety grain surface. The range of pastel card available in a range of colours, all of which are acid-free and lightfast. Please note: not for use with liquids or wet media.

Jackson’s Handmade Soft Pastels are high quality, artist grade pastels. There are 200 soft and bright colours in the range, as well as a wide variety of themed selection sets.

Our Soft Pastels are made carefully by hand which makes them very soft with a smooth, buttery consistency. They have a low binder to pigment ratio which makes them rich and luminous, allowing for both subtle and bold mark making.

Their excellent lightfast qualities mean that pastel paintings created with them will not deteriorate over time. The four fluorescent colours are the only exception; like all fluorescent colours they are not lightfast.

The pastels are made solely from pigments, a bentonite clay binder, and calcium carbonate (chalk). Each pastel measures approximately 55mm in length and 15mm in diameter.

This Caran d’Ache Pastel Pencils Set contains 76 of the very finest dry pastel pencils, beautifully presented in a strong, foam-lined box. These high quality artists’ pencils contain ultra-fine pigments and are exceptionally lightfast. They are hexagonally shaped to prevent them from rolling from the work surface and the strong 4.7mm leads can be sharpened to a very fine point, ideally with a craft knife or sandpaper block.

The Sennelier oil pastel is a product that makes use of the components used in all Sennelier colours: top quality pigments, an extremely pure synthetic binding medium and mineral wax. The pigments are ground with an inert, non-siccative binding medium that does not oxidise and that has no effect upon either film stability or surface. This base is then mixed with wax (neutral pH). The balance of this mix provides Sennelier oil pastels with a unique unctuousness and a creamy texture that allows for a great deal of freedom in pictorial expression.

The Sennelier oil pastels possess an extraordinarily high pigment content, thus providing them with a high colouring and covering potential, excellent brightness and a high degree of light stability (with the exception of metallic and fluorescent shades).

Faber Castell PITT Monochrome crayons are designed to be used for sketches and figure drawings. They are perfect tools for the traditional discipline of producing figure drawings in a coloured mid-tone (often sanguine) which is then highlighted with white and darkened in shadows. Exercises in draughtsmanship like this were carried out by apprentices across Early Modern Europe.Crayons designed for this kind of exercise are harder than conventional pastel crayons. The lines cannot be blurred completely, though some of the pigment can be moved across the paper. This crayon is of the following colour: Bistre.

The pastels are made in Northumberland and contain only pure pigments in a cycle of related hues, instead of adding white or black to the colours. The result is intense, vibrant colour not muddied by the blending of colours.

Unison's pastels contain very little binder, making them truly soft and smooth. They are mixed to meticulous recipes and are based on traditional pigments such as cadmiums, cobalts and natural and synthetic earths.

Pastels measure approximately 2-1/8" long × 5/8" diameter (54 mm × 16 mm). Sticks vary slightly due to the hand-making process.

Conte crayons with their 6x6mm cross-section offer a range of 84 colours, 14 tones of which are specifically designed for sketching. The crayons are very soft to use and are manufactured using natural pigments (iron oxide, carbon black, titanium dioxide), clay (kaolin) and a binder (cellulose ether), which are then baked after being extruded and dried. The degree of baking varies the grade (hardness:H/ softness:B) of the black and white crayons.

The exceptional diameter of the Conté à Paris pastel pencil (5 mm) lead gives genuine freedom of creation and has an unrivalled feel. The pastel is a perfect pencil companion to soft pastel because it's lead is slightly harder with less pigment. It is preferable to Conté soft pastels and crayons when detail is required for small and medium sized formats. In contrast with soft pastel, pastel pencil should not be added in successive layers of colours, but used as pure colours laid out in patchwork fashion side by side (so as not to dull the shades).
