Multi-level Mammaplasty: Anatomical Support And Re-shaping Of The Breast (Hardcover): Amiram Borenstein, Or Friedman Multi-level Mammaplasty: Anatomical Support And Re-shaping Of The Breast (Hardcover)
Amiram Borenstein, Or Friedman
R2,335 Discovery Miles 23 350 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Multi-Level Mammaplasty focuses on the modification of the Lassus technique, adjusted for the use in breasts of all shapes and sizes. This method relies on an upper pedicle relative to the areola and involves a lower central breast reduction, glandular shaping, and suturing. The tradeoff is that in order to ensure a fine-line peri-areolar scar, a vertical extension is added. However, this vertical scar fades over time and is partly obscured by the breast. The submammary horizontal scar, typical of the inverted T incision, is avoided through progressive gathering of the breast tissue during the reconstruction of the breast mound, precisely through trimming of the excess skin for a short, tension-free vertical suture. Moreover, the peri-areolar suture is not disturbed by the vertical suture with unnecessary tension. Still, in the larger breast, the vertical scar may extend to the chest wall. We accept this tradeoff and discuss it with our patients before surgery. In this book, the authors present evidence to demonstrate that the Borenstein multi-level mammaplasty technique is safe and allows the precise reshaping of the breast with long-lasting results. Its advantages largely compensate for the addition of the vertical limb to the peri-areolar scar.

Atlas of Scar Treatment and Correction (Hardcover, 2013 ed.): Igor Safonov Atlas of Scar Treatment and Correction (Hardcover, 2013 ed.)
Igor Safonov
R2,722 Discovery Miles 27 220 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This atlas is a comprehensive guide to the treatment and correction of scars. It is divided into four sections covering the different types of scar: atrophic and stretch marks, keloid and hypertrophic, normotrophic, and mixed. For each scar type, the various invasive and minimally invasive procedures and their results are documented with the aid of numerous high-quality photographs. In the section on keloid and hypertrophic scars, treatment is presented according to scar localization. In addition, the influence of etiology on treatment is considered, with distinction between scars due to injuries, animal bites, inflammatory diseases (including acne and varicella), and burns. Care is taken to distinguish between approaches suitable for fresh scars (in the inflammation, proliferation, and maturation phases) and those appropriate for scars present for more than one year. Potential adverse effects and complications of treatment are also explored. "

This book will be useful for medical students, residents and consultants with an interest in hip preservation surgery. Prostheses in Antiquity (Paperback): Jane Draycott Prostheses in Antiquity (Paperback)
Jane Draycott
R1,410 Discovery Miles 14 100 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Today, a prosthesis is an artificial device that replaces a missing body part, generally designed and assembled according to the individual's appearance and functional needs with a view to being both as unobtrusive and as useful as possible. In classical antiquity, however, this was not necessarily the case. The ancient literary and documentary evidence for prostheses and prosthesis use is contradictory, and the bioarchaeological and archaeological evidence is enigmatic, but discretion and utility were not necessarily priorities. So, when, howand why did individuals utilise them? This volume, the first to explore prostheses and prosthesis use in classical antiquity, seeks to answer these questions, and will be of interest to academics and students with specialistinterests in classical archaeology, ancient history and history, especially those engaged in studies of healing, medical and surgical practices, or impairment and disability in past societies.

N. Matsui, Y. Taneda, Y. Yoshida
R1,449 Discovery Miles 14 490 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Joint replacement surgery has seen remarkable progress and development in recent years both in prostheses and in surgical technique. A prime concern has been improved durability, for which a major factor is reduction of the polyethylene wear that leads to osteolysis. This book presents an update on the means by which the problems of wear and loosening are being addressed in total hip arthroplasty (THA) and total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Included are chapters on new surgical techniques for difficult cases, nonpolyethylene interfaces for THA, custom hip prostheses, and computer-assisted surgery. Arthroplasty 2000 also takes up current controversial issues such as posterior cruciate substitution versus retention in TKA. With contributions by eminent specialists in total joint replacement in Asia, Europe, and North America, this volume is a valuable reference for all orthopedic surgeons.

Geoffrey J. Gladstone, Frank A. Nesi, Evan H. Black
R2,884 Discovery Miles 28 840 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

When the first edition of this atlas was published in 2005, it was well received throughout the oculoplastic and ophthalmology community for its simplicity and clinical focus. Now, a decade later, surgical techniques have been updated to reflect current practice models and advances in technology. The field of oculoplastic surgery has grown and evolved to include all aspects of facial plastic surgery and the literature must now reflect the advancements of this field. Oculoplastic Surgery Atlas: Cosmetic Facial Surgery, 2nd edition combines text and diagrams, plus surgical videos that enable readers to perform this surgery with the best possible instruction and preparation. Written for ophthalmology specialists and residents, this new edition presents many aspects of facial cosmetic surgery, including blepharoplasty, endoscopic forehead surgery, rhytidectomy, and soft tissue and lip augmentation. Review of the previous edition: "The book offers insight into the possibilities and technology of modern aesthetic cosmetic surgery in the face region. ... The book can be recommended for the aesthetic surgeon and for ophthalmologists. ... The ophthalmologic plastic surgeon will find this book of interest especially in showing a lot of additional possibilities and dimensions in this field. The book will be an asset in every ophthalmic surgeons library." (Karl-Heinz Emmerich, Graefe's Archiv for Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology, Vol. 245, 2007)
