These grey sheets / blocks of lino are especially made for "linocut" relief printmaking. They are 3.2mm thick, have a fabric backing, and are available in a range of sizes and packs. The surface of the lino is cut away using special lino cutters or a knife to form the basis of the lino print. The block is inked up with a roller (known as a brayer) and this creates a positive image when printed onto paper or fabric. The printing process can be done by hand or with a press. You can use water-based lino ink, oil-based lino ink, or a block printing medium mixed with paint. Please note: sizes can vary slightly as these are cut to size in-house.
This tool is made of high carbon tool steel, and is manufactured by EC Lyons.Burnishers are used to flatten a section of a plate in order to remove engraved or etched patterns and lines. This 'erases' the marks on this area. Do not use the end of the tool; use the 'belly' of the tool, just below the tip.
High quality Swiss made carving tools suitable for either lino or wood cutting. Each tool is made from chrome vanadium steel, precisely forged, sharpened and polished for excellent results. Palm-handles are made of hardwood from ecologically managed Swiss forests. Full bolster and square tang for optimal stability. Internal steel ferrule under bolster prevents handle from splitting. Tools are hardened to edge of bevel. Blades electronically hardened to exacting tolerances.
Pfeil Sharpenin Stones are the ideal tools to sharpen your lino cutting equipment and, in turn, to achieve excellent quality cut marks.
RGM Student Lino Tools have sharpened hardened steel blades that allow a precise lino-cutting experience. The handles are made from shock-resistant cellulose acetate that fit comfortably in the hand, allowing you to maintain dexterity during carving and ensuring your safety while using the tool.

Somerset is a world leading traditional printmaking paper. Mould made from 100% cotton to high archival standards. The surface has a gentle texture, soft and good-tempered nature, and is a strong and stable enough sheet to ensure excellent printing. It remains flat after printing and offers durability and long life to finished editions of work. All materials are screened in the mill to ensure minimal environmental effect. No hazardous chemicals are released into the water ways. Pulps are sourced from sustainable sources (no rainforests are harmed in making the papers), and the cotton linters are a by-product from the textile industry.

For printmakers interested in non-toxic printmaking, Caligo are pleased to offer a new and innovative range of oil-based inks that can be washed away with liquid soap and water, without the need for harmful and often more expensive solvents. They call these inks ‘safe wash’ and they are available for both relief and intaglio printing.Add Caligo Safe Wash Extender to increase the transparency and reduce the strength of your colours.

The water-based, high-quality aqua-Linoprint colours contain natural binders such as gum Arabic as well as organic/inorganic pigments. They are easy to apply due to optimum open-times and result in even, sharp prints with fast drying times (wipe-resistant after approx. 15 minutes).
Speedball’s Fabric Block Printing Inks are an oil-based range of bold, permanent colours designed to be with washed up with soap and water. They are an opaque ink with excellent coverage and by adding Speedball’s Fabric Block Printing Transparent Extender you can create transparent colours while maintain the inks viscosity. These inks are designed to print onto smooth fabrics that do not possess a heavy texture or stretch such as cotton, linen, broadcloth or denim. Nylon and canvas are not recommended. Your printing block can be lino, wood or any similar surface and soft rubber rollers or brayers are ideally suited for inking the block.Speedball’s Fabric Block Printing Inks will dry to the touch overnight depending on your climate and they do not require any setting with heat. Twelve precision ground Scraper Cutters, manufactured from high carbon steel. Ideal for use in engraving, scratching and scraping.
When metal plates are engraved for intaglio printmaking, small ridges of cut-away metal called 'burrs' will be left either side of each linear incision. This scraper has a triangular blade, and is designed to be used during intaglio printmaking processes, to scrape away burrs thrown up during the engraving process without damaging the plate. Its sharp face can also be used to scrape and lower the plate surface. It has a wooden handle, and is made of high carbon steel.
Cyanotype is the ‘original’ sun-printing process, one of the earliest photographic techniques. Discovered in 1842 and distinctive for producing rich, Prussian blue monochromatic prints, it was popular well into the 20th century as an inexpensive method for reproducing photographs, documents, maps and plans (hence the enduring architectural term blueprint) and famously, for making impressions of biological specimens in the field (photograms). Harness the power of the sun to make detailed prints from virtually any object that casts a shadow: tools, toys, plants, leaves, stones, sand, string, lace, etc. Simply place the object on the sensitised surface and expose it to sunlight. Use a digitally-printed photographic negative (an inverted black and white photo inkjet-printed onto a transparency) instead of an object to create full-resolution photographs on paper or fabric. Great for photographers, mixed media artists, printmakers, quilters, kids and more. The cyanotype process is easy, forgiving, quick, magical and fun. It can be used on any natural fibre/porous surface including cotton, linen, silk, canvas, wood, paper, wood and leather. This set contains enough chemistry to make approximately sixty-five 8in x 10in prints on paper or fifty 8in x 10in prints on fabric. The two components are: Part A - Potassium Ferricyanide (a red iron salt used with Ferric Ammonium Citrate for cyanotype) and Part B - Ferric Ammonium Citrate (a light-sensitive iron salt used with Potassium Ferricyanide for cyanotype).

This combination tool has a twisted shank of high carbon tool steel, and is tipped with a different tool at each end: a burnisher and a needle point scribe.Burnishers are used to flatten a section of a plate in order to remove engraved or etched patterns and lines. This 'erases' the marks on this area. Do not use the end of the tool; use the 'belly' of the tool, just below the tip.The other end of the tool has a needle point scribe. If this tool is used to add detail or tone directly to the metal plate (a technique known as 'drypoint'), it will inscribe a line with a slight burr, which will print a blurred, indistinct line. This effect can be controlled by manipulating the angle at which the point meets the plate. This end of the tool is designed to be resharpened periodically. This tool is manufactured by EC Lyons.
Speedball Supergraphic Black Ink is the flagship colour in the Speedball Professional Relief Ink range. Developed in consultation with the printmaker and tutor Bill Fick, this is a rich, velvety black which holds detail well and will not clog up a block halfway through an edition. Like all colours in the range, this ink is a lightfast and fully archival oil-based printmaking ink which can be washed up with just soap and water.Speedball Professional Relief Inks are designed for all types of relief printing, especially linocut and woodcut. Because this ink can be thinned with water, it is preferable to print onto dry paper. This is an 16oz (473ml) tin of Supergraphic Black (PBK7, Speedball Lightfastness rating I). It is suitable for mixing with any of the Speedball Professional Relief Ink colours. To increase the transparency of this ink, add Speedball Professional Relief Transparent Base. The ink can be stiffened with talc or magnesium carbonate, and thinned with water. |
