Traditional chart interpretation regarded a retrograde natal planet as being weakened, but many of today's astrologers have different opinions: the planet's energy is more internalized or strengthened, or causes delay or confusion. To illustrate, retrograde Mercury causes mail to be lost, appointments to be missed and a general breakdown in communication. Helen Adams writes: "For far too long retrograde planets have been misunderstood or not understood at all . . . retrogrades are not really all bad " Here she presents a guide to interpreting retrograde planets in the natal and progressed chart as well as by transit. Also included is each retrograde planet's relationship to health.

This book is an English translation of Book 21 of the Astrologia Gallica, in which Morin sets forth his method of horoscope interpretation. In the first section of the book he reviews the methods of other astrologers and explains why they are insufficient. In the second section he explains his own method, which is both different from and superior to the traditional methods. Morin was a physician who became the most renowned of all French astrologers. He was appointed Royal Mathematician to King Louis XIII and was summoned to be present at the birth of the royal heir, the future King Louis XIV. His master work, the Astrologia Gallica, was published in Paris in 1661. It consists of a Preface and 26 individual books in the scholarly Latin of the 17th century. Many of these Books are now available in English translation, but Book 21 should be read first as it contains the fundamental explanation of the Morin method. Richard S. Baldwin made this English translation directly from the Latin text.
Horoscopes of Latin America is Marc Penfield's fifth book on countries of the world, each arranged by continent. This encyclopedic tome is divided into four sections: Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America and South America. It's the definitive work on 40 countries and colonies that make up this part of the world. Most countries, except the Caribbean, declared their independence from Spain or Portugal over a brief period of time. Some became monarchies (Mexico and Brasil) while others joined forces with other countries for a while. The nations of Central America (except Panama) bear close scrutiny as they gained their freedom at the same moment in time; their birth dates are identical, but when the charts are relocated there are some major differences, especially for Costa Rica. Marc Penfield outlines the basic character of the Latin American people by delineating the chart for Isabela, the oldest European settlement in the western hemisphere. Charts for over 130 cities have been included, most of them for their founding date, a few for their charter date. Progressed aspects to the angles for each city and country are shown, which makes this book a valuable teaching tool for students learning the mundane, or geopolitical, branch of astrology.

Finding Our Way Through the Dark presents an astrological lunar-based model to explore the periodic dark and difficult times in our life as rites of passage leading to renewal. It offers a new vision of darkness as a place of insight, healing and regeneration. Each section is accompanied by a workbook and journal so that you can discover when these periods of transition occur in your own life, illuminating the hidden motifs that shape your experiences. This book explains and reframes the astrological factors that facilitate your life journey from endings to new beginnings. In Astrological terms, the prenatal epoch starts at the moment of conception. According to the author, "the prenatal epoch is a certain moment of time, occurring approximately at the commencement of the gestative period... when the degree ascending on the eastern horizon, and the longitude of the moon thereat, interchange with the longitude of the moon and the degree ascending at birth, or their respective opposite points." (pg. 19) What this means is that your prenatal moon was your birth ascendant, and your prenatal ascendant is your birth moon, or the opposite points in the zodiac. There are four possibilities: If the natal moon is above or below the horizon at birth, and if it is increasing or decreasing in light. So what good is this? For one thing, it helps explain infant abnormalities, as well as infant mortality, in cases where there are no other astrological factors. It also aids in reading charts for multiple births: Twins, triplets, quads and quints. Closely allied to the Prenatal Epoch is the Law of Polarity, or sex. Properly calculated, the Prenatal Epoch will not only confirm the sex of the individual, it will also serve to rectify the birth-time itself. Unlike other methods of rectification, where absurdly large time changes can result, Prenatal Epoch calculations correct minor errors in clock-time, thus enabling greater precision in forecasting.
In the first chapters of this book we simultaneously follow two threads. While considering the lives of Richard Wagner, Friedrich Nietzsche, and King Ludwig II of Bavaria in their nineteenth-century incarnations and in earlier incarnations, we examine the planetary configurations accompanying not only their conception, birth, and death, but also various significant events in their lives. In this way we experience how these two perspectives-the biographical and the astrological-weave together and are intimately interconnected. As illuminating as this is, the author also indicates however that astrological calculation alone can never suffice for the truly deep biographical research into karma and reincarnation demonstrated in this work. The author shows that although it is clear that an individual's destiny is connected with the positions of the celestial bodies-that certain regular occurrences are evident-nonetheless no strict regularities exist. He maintains moreover that a certain level of clairvoyance is requisite for any serious astrological study of destiny; even more-that real astrology requires initiation. Such astrological research, when successfully carried out as it is here, relating salient celestial configurations to the life-drama of well-known historical personalities, reads like fine literature. On a practical level this work illustrates several important new tools for the astrologer: how to calculate hermetic charts, how to cast horoscopes not only of birth and death but also of conception (including the astrological significance of the embryonic period between conception and birth), and then also how to apply these various horoscopes in describing the spiral of life that unfolds in seven-year periods during the course of a person's earthly existence. All this reveals profound and fascinating regularities-among them the discovery that stellar configurations during the embryonic period are reflected again and again in the subsequent periods of life. Quite new for most readers will be the author's treatment of Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto, indicating that the names given these planets are deeply meaningful in the light of spiritual science. To make his case he extends Rudolf Steiner's description of cosmic evolution by drawing upon Greek mythology, particularly Orphic cosmology. A Rectification Manual presents the first synthesis of medieval astrology's predictive techniques applied to natal chart rectification. For too many years, an incomplete predictive model has hampered efforts by astrologers to compute an accurate birth time. With no consensus on rectification methods, rectified birth times are commonly held in such disrepute they rank on par with dirty data, as defined by Astrodatabank, a leading astrology database vendor. With the recovery of medieval predictive techniques, the era of disenchantment over rectification is now over. Not just Transits, Progressions, and Solar Arcs; but techniques ranging from Fidaria to Primary Directions fill out a complete predictive toolbox. For the first time, proper attribution between life events and corresponding predictive methods is now possible; making accurate rectification an achievable feat. Rectified to-the-second birth times for each American President and preliminary birth times for each First Lady are included. A Rectification Manual is the largest collection of natal charts subjected to medieval predictive techniques available in today's marketplace.

He was the Jeane Dixon of the early 20th century, psychic advisor to world-famous names in politics, entertainment, and royalty. But he lied about his own name, calling himself-when not answering to "Cheiro"-"Count Louis Hamon" though he was of rather more humble origin. So it's your call: Can trust him to accurately assess your character based solely on the month of your birth? In this book, first published in 1912, he "reveals": . which birth month is known for producing people who are "excellent in diplomacy," who "dazzle their listeners by their wit and brilliancy" . which month sees the arrival of those "inclined to become wrapped up in themselves and their own ideas" . when "very lonely" people are born . which month produces "good literary critics" . and more. Irish occultist Cheiro-aka WILLIAM JOHN WARNER (1866-1936)-wrote a number of books, including Palmistry for All and Cheiro's Guide to the Hand. Among his famous followers were Mark Twain and Oscar Wilde.
Horoscopes of Europe is Marc Penfield's third book on countries of the world arranged by continent. This encyclopedic book is the definitive work on the 51 nations that make up the world's smallest continent, from its largest (Russia) to four diminuitive nations inside Italy, three of them shown here for the first time (Montenegro, Seborga and Sov. Military Order of Malta). This extremely valuable reference work is one that no astrologer interested in mundane, or political, astrology can afford to be without. A century ago, Europe had only 26 countries, most of them monarchies, only half of which remain today. Over the following eight decades, nine more nations were born and with the break-up of the Soviet Union, Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia, 15 more countries emerged onto the world scene. Many countries have two horoscopes-one for its original monarchy, the other for its transition to democracy. France and Germany have many charts from their emergence in the Middle Ages down through a millennia to become the powerhouses of Europe. Charts for the Roman Republic and Empire are also shown. The Eurasian countries of the Caucasus have also been included as they straddle Europe and Asia as do the countries of Russia and Turkey. Charts for more than 135 European cities have also been included, calculated for when they were granted their charters. Appendix A has horoscopes for every member of the European Union, while Appendix B has the author's rectified birth times for most cities shown in this book. This appendix also has the author's speculative birth dates for the cities of London and Paris. Marc Penfield is a double Scorpio with Gemini rising. Known as an historian and researcher and a lover of history and geography, his many years as a travel agent enabled him to journey to many of the places he writes about. Marc Penfield is the author of Bon Voyage (on relocation techniques), Solar Returns in Your Face, Stars over England (with brief bios on its monarchs), Horoscopes of the USA and Canada (now in its 2nd printing), and Horoscopes of Asia, Australia and the Pacific.
Born William Frederick Allan in 1860, Leo knocked about in his early years. As he wrote of himself, ,,"."it was not until his thirtieth year, in 1890, when the progressed Jupiter arrived at the place of the radical Sun, that the effect of the radical Asc. conjunct Saturn was removed and a period of prosperity commenced, for in that year the Astrologer's Magazine (now Modern Astrology) was commenced, and all other pursuits were put on one side in order to take up the study of Astrology as a life work. Thenceforward all other progressed positions, no matter how severe or evil, must be moderated by this benefic progress of Jupiter over the Sun, trine Moon; for to considerably accentuate this benefic influence, Jupiter at the same time by progression reaches the parallel of the Sun at birth, a position which will remain in force for a great many years." "(Progressed Horoscope, pgs. 228-9) Among other duties, Alan Leo and his associates had a lively mail-order chart business, and wrote and published many books and articles. He died in 1917. Of his seven major books, Charles Carter famously said," "They were not well put together but one could find a very great deal of information in them if one knew where to look."" This is one of the best books on progressions ever written. Look carefully and you will find a great many things in it. |
