In February of 1936, Dr. Ferdinand Porsche designed a civilian car for
use on the German Autobahn. Surprisingly, almost none of these cars
were made available to private citizens. The Wehrmacht began secretly
appropriating these vehicles for military use. In January 1938, the
Wehrmacht presented Dr. Porsche with the specifications for a military
version. That November, the prototype was completed and designated the
Pkw. K1 (VW-Kubelwagen). The Kubelwagen Type 82 was equipped with a
lightweight monocoque body on a torsion bar spring based four wheel
independent suspension. Its powerplant consisted of an air-cooled four
cylinder 985cc engine, which outputted 23.5hp. Its tremendous
performance led to its wide use as a communications vehicle by
Wehrmacht units. Because of its reliability and ease of repair, and
since its engine did not require a coolant, the Kubelwagen proved
particulary effective in North Africa. At the request of various
divisions in North Africa for a vehicle suitable for the desert, a
Continental balloon tire equipped version went into production from
1942. Two types of balloon tires, a grooved and an ungrooved version
were used. Because the tires were wider than normal tires, a spacer to
raise the height of a spare tire attachment was added to the hood of
the car. Some of the balloon tire equipped Type 82 were even used in
Italy after the fighting in North Africa stopped in May of 1943.
Including variations, about 51,000 Kubelwagen Type 82 were produced by
the end of the war.

This model kit recreates the M551 Sheridan Armored
Reconnaissance/Airborne Assault Vehicle (AR/AAV). The M551 was designed
as airdrop capable armor with wading capabilities, a key concept as the
U.S. took on the role of global policeman post WWII. With an aluminum
hull and rolled steel turret, it weighed just 15 tons, but had
impressive firepower in the shape of the M81 152mm gun/launcher, which
could fire standard rounds and MGM-51 Shillelagh missiles. The M551 was
in service with active units from 1968 to 1996, and saw action in the
jungles of Vietnam.
This model assembly kit depicts the Korean War variant of the M4A3E8 "Easy Eight" Sherman. This kit variant includes new parts!
The Sherman – reliable and available in huge numbers - was a game changer for the Allies in WWII, and the Easy Eight a prevalent variant most notable for its horizontal volute spring suspension (HVSS) and smooth ride. The Easy Eight's career did not end with WWII, however, as a number were refurbished and thrown back into action by a largely demobilized U.S. Army in the Korean War from 1950. They faced off against T34/85s operated by the Korean People's Army with great success, and were later often used in a supporting fire role.
These cans of spray paint are extremely useful for painting large surfaces. The paint is a synthetic lacquer that cures in a short period of time. Each can contains 100ml of paint, which is enough to fully cover 2 or 3, 1/24 scale sized car bodies.
Tamiya spray paints are not affected by acrylic or enamel paints. Therefore following the painting of the entire assembly, details can be added or picked out using enamel and/or acrylic paints.
These low-friction POM resin suspension balls were originally used on the TRF419X chassis. They are available separately for use on any of Tamiya's vehicles that utilize 5mm suspension balls.
- Low Friction 5mm Suspension Ball x8
- Low friction parts give improved smooth motion of the suspension system.
These specially designed sponge brushes allow extremely detailed weathering work using Tamiya's popular Weathering Master material. Resilient sponge brush features long handle and comfortable grip making this tool very easy to use. Brushes available in medium and fine sizes.
Tamiya introduces its highly popular masking tape in a new and handy way to mask off larger areas in the painting process, for example R/C car bodies. The masking tape comes pre-attached to plastic sheeting, and when folded out it has a width of 550mm.
Tamiya masking tape attaches securely to the surface to be covered, protecting it from unwanted paint and giving sharply defined edges. It peels off easily once the object has been painted.

During World War II, the Russian Armed Forces consisted of five main
elements; the Ground Forces, Navy, Air Force, National Air Defense and
Armed Forces Support. The Ground Forces represented about 80 percent of
the total manpower, being the largest in strength. It had approximately
5,300,000 military effectives at the outbreak of the Russo-German War
in June 1941. However, devastating damage brought by the German
Mechanized Forces resulted in more than 70 percent losses of its entire
troop strength within five months. This led to rapid reorganization of
the Ground Forces, and with a help of the harsh winter climate of
Russia, they managed to repel German's advance just in front of Moscow.
Due to the heavy losses, reorganized units became much smaller than
before. Rifle Forces (infantry) reduced their divisional strength from
14,483 to 10,859. Tank Divisions, which possessed some 20,000 armoured
vehicles, lost about 70% of them at the initial stage of war. Most
surviving Tank Divisions were disbanded, and the available tanks and
crews were re-assigned to much smaller units like independent tank
battalions or tank brigades. It was in 1945, just prior to the end of
the conflict, that the Russian Armed Forces recuperated the pre-war
level of their strength.
The main strength of the Russian counter-offensive was their tank
troops. Following concentrated fire by their artillery units, the tank
troops advanced in three groups, and many infantrymen rode on the tanks
of the 2nd and 3rd groups. This infantry practice was unique to Russian
tactics and was called "Tankoviy Desant" by the Russians. Since the
Russian Ground Forces did not possess armored troop carriers like the
German halftracks, an infantry battalion called the 'Motor Rifle Unit"
was attached to every tank brigade and assigned to close support the
tanks. A Motor Rifle Unit consisted of about 500 infantrymen. PPSh-41
or PPS-43 machine guns as support arms. Soldiers carried as many
magazines as possible, and advanced while riding on tanks. Once
encountering an enemy's defensive position, infantrymen would disembark
from the tank, attack the position, and then return to the tank. These
infantrymen were spearheads of the attack, and due to enemy's defensive
fire, liable to sustain heavy casualties.
The standard uniform of the Russian infantrymen during WW2 was a simple
blouse called "Gymnastiorka". Early in the conflict, greatcoats and
rain capes were often used as wintertime attire. In 1940, a quilted
jacket called "Telogreika" was introduced, but not enough quantities
were supplied in the beginning.
