The first full-length live action feature from the Brothers Quay, usually famed for their surreal animated shorts. A young, modest man (Mark Rylance) enrols in the strange, dilapidated Institute Benjamenta, a boarding school for the training of servants. He becomes fascinated by the secret world of the owners of the institute and becomes obsessed with Lisa Benjamenta (Alice Krige). But then, slowly, the school starts to disintegrate.

Thriller about the making of a Unabomber-type dissident starring Mark Wahlberg. Bob Lee Swagger (Wahlberg) is a former Marine sniper who, three years ago, participated in a failed illegal mission within Ethiopia. Now he finds that the government, or rather certain forces within it, has a vested interest in making him disappear. Living a simple life in a shack in the woods with his dog, he's tried very hard up to now to leave his former life behind but now its game on. A bent CIA operative, Colonel Isaac Johnson (Danny Glover) appears and asks Swagger to help him foil a plot to kill the president that only he knows about. Furthermore, Johnson ups his credibility by furnishing Swagger a massive arsenal of weaponry with which to do the job. Is this a genuine plot, though, or is Swagger being elaborately set up? And anyway, has Swagger enough patriotism left in him to be coaxed into de-retiring for the sake of a country that's been trying to off him?

Circus, run by ringmaster Max Medici (DeVito), is taken over by V.A. Vandevere (Keaton), an entrepreneur who seeks to exploit the show's star attraction, Dumbo the flying elephant. In his new entertainment venture, Dreamland, Vandevere pairs Dumbo with trapeze artist Colette Marchant (Green), with spectacular success. However, war veteran Holt Farrier (Farrell), who cares for Dumbo with the help of his two children, uncovers dark secrets behind Vandevere's new amusement park, which threaten to bring down the show.

Chris Neilson (Robin Williams) is robbed of his blissful life with his wife Annie (Annabella Sciorra) when he dies in a car crash. His ghost is allowed to keep in touch with Annie by residing in one of her paintings, but both parties remain frustrated by the mortal divide between them. When Annie kills herself, however, she is not allowed to join her husband, as all suicides go to hell. Chris determines to rescue his loved one from eternal damnation, enlisting the help of the Tracker (Max von Sydow) and Albert (Cuba Gooding Jr) to do so.

Lou Diamond Phillips stars in this noir crime thriller. As if the responsibility of the role at such a tough time wasn't trying enough, Annie faces the small matter of dealing with Lillian's other bridesmaids - led by Helen (Rose Byrne) and Megan (Melissa McCarthy) - who have their own ideas on the kind of events befitting Lillian's final weeks as an unmarried woman. As a variety of mishaps, including mass food poisoning and a plane grounding, riddle Annie's attempts to help, she gradually finds herself usurped by Helen. But will her loyalty to Lillian pull her through in the end?

Meanwhile, Batman realises the Court of Owls may have been involved in his parents' deaths and is determined to get revenge. Through all they endure will father and son be able to reconcile their differences?

Allegorical drama from director Lindsay Anderson in which a group of non-conformist students lead a revolt against their oppressive masters at an English private school. Parallels are drawn in the film between the bullying, inflexible and snobbish approach of the schoolmasters to their pupils, led by the rebellious Mick Travis (Malcolm McDowell), and the dysfunction and injustice of the British class system at large. As Mick and his gang of cohorts indulge in acts of petty disobedience, such as heading into town to try and seduce a local waitress, the school's acts of retribution, led by Rowntree (Robert Swann), become increasingly cruel and malicious. Finally, the students are provoked into open rebellion, the bloody nature of which shocked a number of commentators at the time and led to claims that the film aimed to provoke a violent uprising in society as a whole.

Kicked out of home by his mother, who doesn't believe his story, man-child Josh quickly gets a job developing new ideas for toys, with much success. He also finds himself successful with women - something he isn't quite ready to handle!
An epic aviation film, based on Tom Wolfe's book, which charts the history of flight from Chuck Yeager's (Sam Shepard) legendary sound barrier-breaking flight in the 1940s, to the first men in space in the 1960s. The story centres on the relentless efforts of several US pilots to break all records set before them, finalising in the US space exploration programme of the 1960s, in which seven pilots were chosen to represent America in the heated space race with the Russians.
On Christmas Eve, New York cop John McClane (Bruce Willis) is visiting his estranged wife Holly (Bonnie Bedelia) in Los Angeles, where she works. They are attending a party at Holly's high-rise office block when terrorists, led by the suave Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman) break in, taking everyone hostage. McClane manages to evade capture, however, and sets out to rescue his wife and the other prisoners. It is not long before he is running barefoot over shattered glass (ouch!) in a sweaty vest, muttering 'Yippy kay aye' as he dispatches the baddies with bullets and a certain earthy wit.
Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks star in this crime-caper by Steven Spielberg, based on the true story of Frank W. Abagnale Junior. As a teenager, Abagnale (DiCaprio) discovers he has a talent for impersonating officials, beginning with posing as a substitute teacher. Finding solace in his new gift - his mother leaves his father (Christopher Walken) after she discovers he is heavily in debt to the IRS - Abagnale goes on to impersonate airline pilots, doctors and even a lawyer, whilst also managing to con banks out of over $2 million. However, his escapades soon attract the interest of FBI agent Carl Hanratty (Hanks) who seems to be always one step behind. That is until Abagnale decides to settle down and discovers that his future father-in-law (Martin Sheen) is the D.A of New Orleans. The real Abagnale appears in a cameo and, after serving time in prison, now works as a consultant for preventing forgery and fraud.
Five strangers find themselves trapped in a maze-like prison. Led by cop Quentin (Maurice Dean Wint) and expert jailbreaker Rennes (Wayne Robson) they move from room to room, discovering several traps along the way. Maths student Leaven (Nicole De Boer) ascertains that the numbers on each room reveal which is safe, but this does not prevent the death of Rennes. The group are then joined by the autistic Kazan (Andrew Miller), who also has a gift for numbers. It soon becomes clear that each of them possesses the peculiar skills necessary to escape their prison, if they don't wind up dead first. |
