Today's changed education landscape demands leaders who will provide society with capable South Africans who are able to fulfil their life-roles as citizens and as productive, well-adjusted human beings. An educator's guide to school management skills aims at providing education leaders and managers with practical, school-based directives. This title focuses on four particularly relevant aspects in our schools today: How to develop excellence in schools; leadership and management skills; motivational skills; current school management issues (i.e. effective teaching personnel; management of information and time; school's finances; managing of the instructional programme; community involvement; legal aspects of employment; and gender equity).
The authors emphasize the commonality of the underlying principles, eg the principle of accessoriness, governing all categories of security rights.
This selection, which was made by Eliot himself, is intended as an introduction to the main body of his poetry prior to Four Quartets, which is available separately in Faber Paperbacks. The selection includes the whole of The Waste Land.
Everyone has the right to education. The main objective of any education system in a democratic society is to provide quality education for all learners, including those with physical, mental and socioeconomic challenges, so that they will be able to reach their full potential and contribute meaningfully to society throughout their lives. With the publication of the Education White Paper 6 in 2001, South Africa proclaimed its policy of inclusive education; however, this policy is not always clearly understood by educators. Addressing barriers to learning provides relevant and in-depth knowledge to prepare educators to teach all the learners in their class groups to the best of their ability. Addressing barriers to learning covers the complete continuum of barriers to learning as reflected in Education White Paper 6, including the most vulnerable of them: those who are economically and educationally disadvantaged; those with physical, sensory, intellectual, and/or learning impairment; those who are subjected to xenophobic behaviour and those displaying challenging behaviour who are at risk of exclusion. This latest edition also includes a new section on discrimination and sociocultural injustice towards LGBTQI (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning and intersex) learners. Case studies offer practical examples and activities provide opportunities for hands-on experience with classroom practice and management, collaboration with all role players and mobilisation of community involvement, which is at the heart of true inclusion. Addressing barriers to learning is aimed at both prospective and current educators and other support professionals, including psychologists and therapists.
This unique seminal work is the only book which comprehensively addresses current environmental management in South Africa from an interdisciplinary perspective. The third edition of Fuggle & Rabie’s Environmental Management in South Africa sheds light on the legal frameworks in regional and international environmental law, administrative law and the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA). Key themes addressed in environmental management, including agriculture and soils, air quality, biodiversity, climate change, energy, the coast, economics, trade and the role of financial institutions (among others), are covered from both scientific and legal perspectives.

Health organizations in social, medico-social and health sectors are not immune to the pressures of productivity, efficiency and quality. The race against time, which is far more problematic today than 20 years ago, makes care in the workplace much more difficult to implement, though it is essential. The onset of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 only reinforced this stance. Caring Management in Heath Organizations questions the benevolent nature of management, understood here to mean taking care, according a central role to relationships. It takes a political, historical and international perspective on health management, examining successful implementations of this practice in health organizations, with all its difficulties, pitfalls and riches. Other sectors are also explored. This book takes a critical look at the very foundations of "caring management". It opens up the debate between researchers from different backgrounds and professionals in the field.

Oorgange en voortgange is 'n bundel oorspronklike navorsingsartikels saamgestel as huldiging van prof. Heinrich Ohlhoff.
In today's rapidly changing world, a holistic and integrated approach to educational assessment - and its interdependence with curriculum, teaching and learning - is essential. In the delivery of 21st century knowledge and skills, educators will be challenged with issues such as what to teach, what and how learners need to learn, and how to assess their work accurately to measure richer and more meaningful learning and more complex tasks. Meaningful assessment for 21st century learning seeks to address different learning contexts and disciplines by exploring how education theory, methodologies and approaches influence assessment practices in the 21st century. Meaningful assessment for 21st century learning is aimed at the broader educational community of scholars engaged in meaningful and effective educational assessment to promote 21st century skills.

The purpose of Research At Grass Roots is to accompany the novice researcher, in both the social sciences and human service professions, step by step through the research process. The description of the research process is probably unique in that this view has been developed over at least two decades through work with postgraduate students. The section for experienced researchers is less structured and discusses current topics of interest such as evaluation research, intervention research, participatory action research, and analysis of concepts such as evidence-based practice. The interplay between scientific theory and research, and between research and professional practice, has once again been highlighted. This encompasses important debates for experienced researchers and practitioners, including crucial concepts for novice researchers to master as early as possible in their academic careers. The section dealing with different models for combining quantitative and qualitative styles of research has been updated to include recent debates and developments in the field of mixed methods designs. Both sections dealing with qualitative and quantitative designs and analysis have been substantially revised and updated. We have included contributions from experienced researchers such as Prof. Willem Schurink, a qualitative researcher and doctoral supervisor, Prof. Wim Roestenburg, a senior academic and researcher, and Dr Allen Bartley, an international contributor and expert in statistical analysis. Prof. Minrie Greeff has again provided insight from her vast experience of research interviewing. Salient features of the previous three editions have been retained in order to ensure that we continue to meet the needs of current users of this very successful book. |
