This gentle song is taken from the song cycle 'Songs for Seven Storeys', which Bob Chilcott wrote to celebrate the opening of the New Evelina Children's Hospital on London's South Bank. With a singable, folksy tune and an atmospheric piano part, this song has wide appeal. Orchestral material for 'Songs for Seven Storeys' is available on hire from the OUP Hire Library, or appropriate overseas agent.
for SATB (with divisions) and viola obbligato Beach is taken from the song cycle 'Songs for Seven Storeys', which Bob Chilcott wrote to celebrate the opening of the New Evelina Children's Hospital. Combining a nostalgic melody with a haunting viola obbligato, this introspective song beautifully captures the memory of the seaside.
for SA and piano This attractive setting of a text by Christina Rossetti combines a shapely melody with a gentle, rippling piano accompaniment. Ideal for Easter concerts and services.
Wilberg arranged this familiar hymn for the funeral of US President Gerald Ford. To distinguish this arrangement from the other known settings of O God our help in ages past, Wilberg chose a much lower key for a warmer, more comforting sound. Also, in the last verse, the melody is passed to the tenors and altos, which allows the outer voices to develop and further broaden the texture. Whether performing this work with piano accompaniment or with orchestra, it will certainly rejuvenate this traditional favorite.
for SATB and optional organ Quem pastores laudavere is a beautiful, short arrangement with a more traditional harmonic backdrop. The music opens with oos, and after a pause, the SATB unaccompanied choir enters, singing in Latin, sempre legato. Bassi writes lush choral lines with suspension after suspension, which results in a stunning sound with considerable depth. An English singing translation is provided beneath the text.
for solo voice, SATB choir, flute, and keyboard or guitar or chamber orchestra This heartwarming song, setting words by the composer, has a rich, satisfying melody that befits the sentiment of the text: music is a gift that enriches the soul and lasts a lifetime.
for SATB with divisions, unaccompanied Choirs will enjoy singing the lush, expanded harmonies in this short, breathtaking anthem. The fourteenth-century text is used widely during communion, but is also appropriate in other parts of the church's year, especially during the season of Lent. This music would also be a fine addition to a concert of sacred music.
for SATB unaccompanied These short motets (Bread of Heaven and Bread of the World) are accessible by any church choir. The text makes them appropriate for any time during the church year, but they could find a special place during the Lenten season.
for SATB and piano This anthem is a setting of the text from John 14, Christ's words to his apostles after the resurrection. It begins with a flowing accompaniment and solo vocal lines that build to the tutti declamation of 'Peace I leave with you, my peace I give you'. It is appropriate for the Easter and Pentecost and is accessible for all church choirs.
for SA and piano This lyrical setting of a text by Colin Coppen has an elegant melody and flowing piano accompaniment. It would make a charming addition to any concert or service, and is also available in a version for mixed voices.
for SATB and oboe or flute with piano or orchestra This captivating rendition of a classic spiritual is a delight to sing. Thornett expertly adds new flavour to the original melody through the addition of the flute or oboe counter-melody. Fluctuations between major and minor make this setting particularly moving and reflective. Orchestral material is available on hire.
for SATB and piano four hands or orchestra Wilberg's masterful arranging is evident in this light and fun setting of the well-known traditional carol. With staccato chords in the piano on and sometimes off the beat, Wilberg creates a playful setting that will delight singers and audiences alike and which is ideal for Christmas concerts.
This exciting and accessible collection for upper voices (scored for SA choir and piano) features five songs by celebrated choral composer Bob Chilcott. Drawing on five very different texts, Chilcott guides the voices through a number of styles and moods; the songs include the rousing 'All for Love of One', gentle 'The Truth is Great', and thought-provoking 'All things pass'. The central song, 'Circles of Motion', is a fervent and positive setting of Joy Harjo's well-known 'Eagle Poem', and the collection is completed by the funky 'Red Boots On', which uses jazzy rhythms and harmonies to bring Kit Wright's text alive. This is Chilcott at his very best - a welcome addition to the repertoire of any upper-voice choir.
for SATB and piano or organ or orchestra This exciting and diverse collection features eight of Mack Wilberg's popular arrangements for the Christmas season. These carols have been revised with new scorings for SATB choir and piano or organ expressly for this collection. Whether fast and upbeat or steady and warm, this music reveals Wilberg's talent for arranging and will be a welcome addition to Christmas programming for choral societies and church choirs. Orchestral material for all the carols is available on hire.
This Day unites five very different texts, both sacred and secular, in an exploration of man's relationship with the world and with God. Opening with an optimistic F sharp major setting of Emily Dickinson's 'Bring me the sunset in a cup', the work progresses through the stages of a day (or, indeed, a life): 'Awake, my soul!' (Thomas Ken), 'This Day' (Jewish text, adapted Chilcott), 'The Bright Field' (R.S. Thomas), and 'O Lord, support us' (John Henry Newman). This is powerfully evocative music embracing a range of moods and styles, with moments of joyful optimism, spiritual enlightenment, and poignancy.
for SATB choir, cor anglais (or clarinet in A or viola) and organ This reflective setting of verses from Psalm 139 opens with a folk-like melody from the cor anglais. The work grows in intensity with sombre choral harmonies, leading to an ecstatic climax; it then gently subsides, tailing into silences with a return to the opening cor anglais melody. The work is a highly effective Lenten or contemplative anthem.
Forever Child is a suite of seven pieces for unaccompanied mixed voices on the theme of childhood. It was composed in memory of a young boy, Ben Curiel, and is a celebration of his life in a sequence of well-loved texts. Corp skilfully evokes a variety of moods, from the innocence and exuberance of childhood to the darker, more reflective mood of the final movements. The work forms an excellent concert suite, or any of its movements may be extracted for separate performance.
An arrangement of Tallis's Canon for 2, 3, 4, or 5 equal voices, with chamber orchestra or organ and strings This German translation of the original English text 'Glory to thee, my God, this night' is also available in the collection, Glory to God. Material for strings is available on hire.
for SATB and optional organ, or full orchestra, or strings only, or brass ensemble A German translation of the traditional English carol, 'Hark! the herald-angels sing'. German and English texts. Also in the collection Glory to God.
for SATB and piano or organ or orchestra This beautiful setting of Edward Caswell's well-known text provides a wonderful alternative to more familiar versions. A perfect option for SATB choirs at Christmas. Orchestral material is available on hire.
for SATB and organ or orchestra This gentle New Year carol was composed in celebration of the 80th birthday of HM The Queen. Instantly singable, and with the warm, tuneful lyricism so characteristic of John Rutter's music, the carol offers a simple message of hope as we look forward to a new year. Orchestral material is available on hire.
for SSA and organ This joyful carol sets a text by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. The piece opens with an imitation of bells spread across the voices, and this festive, celebratory quality is maintained throughout. Simple yet elegant, Christmas Bells is ideal for any upper-voice choir.
for SSAA and piano This setting of a delightful text by Canadian poet Tara Wohlberg was commissioned by the Canadian Children's Opera Chorus. The gentle undulating piano accompaniment and the lush choral parts will make this a delight both for singers and audience members.
for SA and piano Wayfarin' Stranger is a two-part upper voice version of the SAB setting of the popular American folksong that is featured in SongStream 2: An American Journey. A blues flavour in the accompaniment and a canon in the middle section give the familiar tune fresh appeal. |
