Introduction to Digital Communications (Paperback, 2nd ed. 2021): Joachim Speidel Introduction to Digital Communications (Paperback, 2nd ed. 2021)
Joachim Speidel
R2,474 Discovery Miles 24 740 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book offers students, scientists, and engineers an extensive introduction to the theoretical fundamentals of digital communications, covering single-input single-output (SISO), multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO), and time-variant systems. Further, the main content is supplemented by a wealth of representative examples and computer simulations. The book is divided into three parts, the first of which addresses the principles of wire-line and wireless digital transmission over SISO links. Digital modulation, intersymbol interference, and various detection methods are discussed; models for realistic time-variant, wireless channels are introduced; and the equivalent time-variant baseband system model is derived. This book covers two new topics such as blockwise signal transmission and multicarrier modulation with orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. Since not all readers may be familiar with this topic, Part II is devoted to the theory of linear time-variant systems. The generalized convolution is derived, and readers are introduced to impulse response, the delay spread function, and system functions in the frequency domain. In addition, randomly changing systems are discussed. Several new examples and graphs have been added to this book. In turn, Part III deals with MIMO systems. It describes MIMO channel models with and without spatial correlation, including the Kronecker model. Both linear and nonlinear MIMO receivers are investigated. The question of how many bits per channel use can be transmitted is answered, and maximizing channel capacity is addressed. Principles of space-time coding are outlined in order to improve transmission quality and increase data rates. In closing, the book describes multi-user MIMO schemes, which reduce interference when multiple users in the same area transmit their signals in the same time slots and frequency bands.

Cooperation and Integration in 6G Heterogeneous Networks - Resource Allocation and Networking (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2023): Jun... Cooperation and Integration in 6G Heterogeneous Networks - Resource Allocation and Networking (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2023)
Jun Du, Chunxiao Jiang
R5,806 Discovery Miles 58 060 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

To provide ubiquitous and various services, 6G networks tend to be more comprehensive and multidimensional by integrating current terrestrial networks with space-/air-based information networks and marine information networks; then, heterogeneous network resources, as well as different types of users and data, will be also integrated. Driven by the exponentially growing demands of multimedia data traffic and computation-heavy applications, 6G heterogenous networks are expected to achieve a high QoS with ultra-reliability and low latency. In response, resource allocation has been considered an important factor that can improve 6G performance directly by configuring heterogeneous communication, computing and caching resources effectively and efficiently. The book addresses a range of technical issues in cooperative resource allocation and information sharing for the future 6G heterogenous networks, from the terrestrial ultra-dense networks and space-based networks to the integrated satellite-terrestrial networks, as well as introducing the effects of cooperative behavior among mobile users on increasing capacity, trustworthiness and privacy. For the cooperative transmission in heterogeneous networks, the authors commence with the traffic offloading problems in terrestrial ultra-dense networks, and the cognitive and cooperative mechanisms in heterogeneous space-based networks, the stability analysis of which is also provided. Moreover, for the cooperative transmission in integrated satellite-terrestrial networks, the authors present a pair of dynamic and adaptive resource allocation strategies for traffic offloading, cooperative beamforming and traffic prediction based cooperative transmission. Later, the authors discuss the cooperative computation and caching resource allocation in heterogeneous networks, with the highlight of providing our current studies on the game theory, auction theory and deep reinforcement learning based approaches. Meanwhile, the authors introduce the cooperative resource and information sharing among users, in which capacity oriented-, trustworthiness oriented-, and privacy oriented cooperative mechanisms are investigated. Finally, the conclusion is drawn.

Gm-C Filter Synthesis for Modern RF Systems (Paperback, 1st ed. 2022): Vanco Litovski Gm-C Filter Synthesis for Modern RF Systems (Paperback, 1st ed. 2022)
Vanco Litovski
R3,456 Discovery Miles 34 560 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book discusses synthesis of Gm-C filter for modern radio frequency systems. Analogue filters are an inevitable part of the chain of signal processing in modern radio and telecommunication systems. Among the technologies implemented for these purposes are the so-called Gm-C filters which are built of operational transconductance amplifiers and capacitors. This technology allows for integration of the filter into a CMOS system-on-chip so making it very attractive for application in low-power (battery operated) devices. The objective of this book is to achieve three goals: (1) to fully describe the circuit synthesis procedures for parallel, cascade, and a realization based on LC prototypes; (2) to make a thorough evaluation of the advantages and disadvantages of these methods and to recommend the "preferable" one; and (3) to create an extensive table of element values of cascaded Gm-C filters realizing the best-known low-pass filter functions. The book will influence the design community to embrace this technology even for non-communication applications.

Offering a deeper understanding of today's internet media and the management theory behind it Platforms are everywhere. From social media to chat, streaming, credit cards, and even bookstores, it seems like almost everything can be described as a platform. In The Platform Economy, Marc Steinberg argues that the "platformization" of capitalism has transformed everything, and it is imperative that we have a historically precise, robust understanding of this widespread concept. Taking Japan as the key site for global platformization, Steinberg delves into that nation's unique technological and managerial trajectory, in the process systematically examining every facet of the elusive word platform. Among the untold stories revealed here is that of the 1999 iPhone precursor, the i-mode: the world's first widespread mobile internet platform, which became a blueprint for Apple and Google's later dominance of the mobile market. Steinberg also charts the rise of social gaming giants GREE and Mobage, chat tools KakaoTalk, WeChat, and LINE, and video streaming site Niconico Video, as well as the development of platform theory in Japan, as part of a wider transformation of managerial theory to account for platforms as mediators of cultural life. Analyzing platforms' immense impact on contemporary media such as video streaming, music, and gaming, The Platform Economy fills in neglected parts of the platform story. In narrating the rise and fall of Japanese platforms, and the enduring legacy of Japanese platform theory, this book sheds light on contemporary tech titans like Facebook, Google, Apple, and Netflix, and their platform-mediated transformation of contemporary life-it is essential reading for anyone wanting to understand what capitalism is today and where it is headed.

Energy Efficient Computation Offloading in Mobile Edge Computing (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2022): Ying Chen, Ning Zhang, Yuanwu,... Energy Efficient Computation Offloading in Mobile Edge Computing (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2022)
Ying Chen, Ning Zhang, Yuanwu, Sherman Shen
R4,456 Discovery Miles 44 560 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book provides a comprehensive review and in-depth discussion of the state-of-the-art research literature and propose energy-efficient computation offloading and resources management for mobile edge computing (MEC), covering task offloading, channel allocation, frequency scaling and resource scheduling. Since the task arrival process and channel conditions are stochastic and dynamic, the authors first propose an energy efficient dynamic computing offloading scheme to minimize energy consumption and guarantee end devices' delay performance. To further improve energy efficiency combined with tail energy, the authors present a computation offloading and frequency scaling scheme to jointly deal with the stochastic task allocation and CPU-cycle frequency scaling for minimal energy consumption while guaranteeing the system stability. They also investigate delay-aware and energy-efficient computation offloading in a dynamic MEC system with multiple edge servers, and introduce an end-to-end deep reinforcement learning (DRL) approach to select the best edge server for offloading and allocate the optimal computational resource such that the expected long-term utility is maximized. Finally, the authors study the multi-task computation offloading in multi-access MEC via non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) and accounting for the time-varying channel conditions. An online algorithm based on DRL is proposed to efficiently learn the near-optimal offloading solutions. Researchers working in mobile edge computing, task offloading and resource management, as well as advanced level students in electrical and computer engineering, telecommunications, computer science or other related disciplines will find this book useful as a reference. Professionals working within these related fields will also benefit from this book.

Appified - Culture in the Age of Apps (Paperback): Jeremy Wade Morris, Sarah Murray Appified - Culture in the Age of Apps (Paperback)
Jeremy Wade Morris, Sarah Murray
R1,112 Discovery Miles 11 120 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Snapchat. WhatsApp. Ashley Madison. Fitbit. Tinder. Periscope. How do we make sense of how apps like these-and thousands of others-have embedded themselves into our daily routines, permeating the background of ordinary life and standing at-the-ready to be used on our smartphones and tablets? When we look at any single app, it's hard to imagine how such a small piece of software could be particularly notable. But if we look at a collection of them, we see a bigger picture that reveals how the quotidian activities apps encompass are far from banal: connecting with friends (and strangers and enemies), sharing memories (and personally identifying information), making art (and trash), navigating spaces (and reshaping places in the process). While the sheer number of apps is overwhelming, as are the range of activities they address, each one offers an opportunity for us to seek out meaning in the mundane. Appified is the first scholarly volume to examine individual apps within the wider historical and cultural context of media and cultural studies scholarship, attuned to issues of politics and power, identity and the everyday.

It goes on to describe a mobile cloud computing system with several third party cloud mobile media (CMM) services that offers its services to a telecom operator. In this scenario, the telecom operator acts as broker that can mix and interchange the resources offered by the different CMM service providers. Subsequent contributed chapters discuss such key research areas as Energy-efficient task execution that reduces the energy consumption in both mobile devices and the cloud Design and architecture of a Proximity Cloud that delivers low-latency, bandwidth-efficient end-user services with a global footprint Virtual mobile networks in clouds that enable resource sharing between multiple mobile network operators Software piracy control framework in mobile cloud computing systems designed to prevent mobile application piracy Dynamic configuration of cloud radio access networks (C-RANs) to improve end-to-end TCP throughput performance in next generation wireless networks The book includes many supporting illustrations and tables along with

The exponential increase in mobile device users and high-bandwidth applications has pushed the current 3G and 4G wireless networks to their capacity. Moreover, it is predicted that mobile data traffic will continue to grow by over 300 percent by 2017. To handle this spectacular growth, the development of improved wireless networks for the future has been of paramount importance. The Future of Wireless Networks: Architectures, Protocols, and Services discusses the future of wireless networks, including the emerging network architectures, underlying protocols, services, and applications. The first part of the book focuses on new wireless network architectures that are being developed, such as mobile SDN, wireless local area networks (i.e., 802.11), and wireless sensor networks for the Smart Grid. In the second part of the book, the authors discuss the new protocols and enabling technologies for the different wireless network architectures. These include wireless MAC protocols, resource allocation in cognitive radio networks, multicast transmission, and femtocells, which provide enhanced indoor coverage and increased network capacity. The book's final section discusses several new services and applications that are springing up, such as multisource selection for wireless peer-to-peer (P2P) networks and device-to-device (D2D) content sharing, which reduces duplicated downloads of the same contents on cellular links by offloading the traffic onto other networks. This section also covers the next generation of wireless security and privacy control techniques that service providers can use to ensure that their infrastructures and services are adequately protected against all kinds of threats.
