For many years artists have appreciated the qualities of the Langton. Made traditionally on a cylinder mould machine, it features a natural whiteness with a soft touch and distinctive texture. Langton watercolour paper is acid free with an alkali reserve to preserve finished pieces of work and protect against discolouration. Treated with an anti-fungal treatment, Langton watercolour paper also boasts a gelatinised surface for strength and resilience. Please note, these sheets have a 'Not' finish (cold-pressed). They have a slightly textured surface, and are not recommended for painting in an extremely detailed manner, though they should be suitable for most purposes.
Jacksons Two Rivers Handmade Watercolour Paper : NOT surface : 200lb : 16x20in : 5 sheets Made exclusively for Jackson s by the Two Rivers paper mill in Somerset. This paper is conservation quality, made with 100% cotton and linen rag and very hard sized. This means that the surface is incredibly tough, allowing the artist to work the surface for much longer than with more absorbent artists papers. Because the paint is not drawn into the paper the pigment dries to a sharp and brilliant finish. The inclusion of linen in its make-up results in an unusually tough surface which will resist much lifting out, scrubbing and re-working. Reassuringly, the 400 year old mill is also hydro powered making it very environmentally friendly. TR has a unique random surface texture unlike the mechanically even weave of most other branded papers. This also means that there is not a right or wrong side as both sides are identical. As well as watercolour, our papers are used for other media including pastels, oils, printmaking, photographic processes and many types of mixed media. The NOT surface is slightly rougher than most.
All watercolour boards selected by Daler-Rowney are made from the highest quality wood pulp and cotton fibres, and they're all acid-free to prevent discoloration over time. Particularly suited to line and wash illustration work.
Millford is the newest watercolour paper developed by St Cuthberts Mill. It is styled on the discontinued Whatman watercolour paper, after artists grieved the loss of this unique type of watercolour paper. It is mould made from 100% cotton (just like the original Whatman), and it's beautiful surface is created using natural woollen felts. It is deliberately created to have a high resistance to water, so it’s washes perform very differently to traditional watercolour papers.

This superb artist grade paper from Saunders Waterford has a watermark in the corner for authenticity and 4 deckle edges which are visually beautiful and perfect for float framing. Please note that while Saunders Waterford High White papers are noticeably whiter than the traditional Saunders Waterford paper, they still have a pale cream appearance. This is because it is not currently possible to whiten the paper to a bright white without compromising light-fastness by using Optical Brightening Agents. The whiter shade of Saunders Waterford High White paper is achieved by adding a high white lightfast pigment with good long-life properties, as used in some watercolour paints. Artists grade watercolour paper is archival which means it will not discolour or fall apart over time. It is made of 100% cotton rag. This paper is much more durable than lower grades of paper because it is gelatine surface sized and it is mould-made, both of which mean it can take scrubbing of the surface without falling apart. Saunders Waterford paper is endorsed by the Royal Watercolour Society. Please note, these sheets have a rough finish: they have a rough surface, and are not suitable for detailed watercolour painting. Because watercolour paint is transparent the colour of the paper is a very important part of the painting. The colour of the ground will affect everything on top of it, both the painted and unpainted areas, even different shades of white. The artist can substantially alter the mood and atmosphere of the painting by using a coloured paper. Artists quality cotton rag paper, for watercolour and all painting and drawing media. Khadi rag papers are made from 100% cotton rag. Cotton rags have longer fibres than linters which are the shorter fluffy cotton seed fibres commonly used in papermaking. Genuine rag papers are rare and it is the fibre length of this raw material that gives Khadi rag papers their exceptional strength and durability. The cotton rag we use comes from T-shirt cuttings from garment factories, a reliable source of pure woven cotton. |
