Throughout the world, governments are reducing their involvement in
the area of telecommunications. Some telecommunications are being
fully or partly privatized while others are experiencing
deregulation. The situation in six Asian countries, four European
countries, and two Latin American countries are examined. In
addition, there is one chapter on the telecommunications business
in developing countries as a whole. All sections explore the
interaction with encroaching competition, new technology, and a
desire for greater freedom.
