Singing stars Max Emanuel Cencic, Philippe Jaroussky and Ernesto Tomasini explore the history of the castrato style of singing, which originated in Italy in the mid-16th century. Telling the stories of singers such as Farinelli, Senesino, Caffarelli and Carestini, the film includes contributions from, amongst others, Jochen Kowalski, Andreas Scholl, David Daniels and Daniel Behle.

The renowned Argentine pianist performs works by Mozart, Chopin, Ravel, Rachmaninov and Schumann at the 1982 Münchner Klaviersommer, accompanied by Nelson Freire, Nicolas Economou and Mischa Maisky.

A collection of live recordings of operas by Giuseppe Verdi, filmed at theatres in Liege, Palermo and Venice, and at the historical fortress of Tsaverets in Bulgaria. The operas featured are: 'Attilla', 'Luisa Miller', 'Il Travotore', 'La Traviata', 'Simon Boccanegra' and 'Falstaff'. The soloists featured include Orlin Anastasov, Ventsalav Anastasov, Darina Takova, Cinzia Forte, and Ruggero Raimondi.
