Non-Standard Parameter Adaptation for Exploratory Data Analysis (Paperback, 2009 ed.): Wesam Ashour Barbakh, Ying Wu, Colin Fyfe Non-Standard Parameter Adaptation for Exploratory Data Analysis (Paperback, 2009 ed.)
Wesam Ashour Barbakh, Ying Wu, Colin Fyfe
R2,653 Discovery Miles 26 530 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Exploratory data analysis, also known as data mining or knowledge discovery from databases, is typically based on the optimisation of a specific function of a dataset. Such optimisation is often performed with gradient descent or variations thereof. In this book, we first lay the groundwork by reviewing some standard clustering algorithms and projection algorithms before presenting various non-standard criteria for clustering. The family of algorithms developed are shown to perform better than the standard clustering algorithms on a variety of datasets. We then consider extensions of the basic mappings which maintain some topology of the original data space. Finally we show how reinforcement learning can be used as a clustering mechanism before turning to projection methods. We show that several varieties of reinforcement learning may also be used to define optimal projections for example for principal component analysis, exploratory projection pursuit and canonical correlation analysis. The new method of cross entropy adaptation is then introduced and used as a means of optimising projections. Finally an artificial immune system is used to create optimal projections and combinations of these three methods are shown to outperform the individual methods of optimisation.

Huan Liu, John Salerno, Michael J Young
R4,011 Discovery Miles 40 110 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Social computing concerns the study of social behavior and context based on computational systems. Behavioral modeling reproduces the social behavior, and allows for experimenting with and deep understanding of behavior, patterns, and potential outcomes. The pervasive use of computer and Internet technologies provides an unprecedented environment where people can share opinions and experiences, offer suggestions and advice, debate, and even conduct experiments. Social computing facilitates behavioral modeling in model building, analysis, pattern mining, anticipation, and prediction. The proceedings from this interdisciplinary workshop provide a platform for researchers, practitioners, and graduate students from sociology, behavioral and computer science, psychology, cultural study, information systems, and operations research to share results and develop new concepts and methodologies aimed at advancing and deepening our understanding of social and behavioral computing to aid critical decision making.

Nearest Neighbor Search: - A Database Perspective (Paperback, Softcover reprint of hardcover 1st ed. 2005): Apostolos N.... Nearest Neighbor Search: - A Database Perspective (Paperback, Softcover reprint of hardcover 1st ed. 2005)
Apostolos N. Papadopoulos, Yannis Manolopoulos
R3,960 Discovery Miles 39 600 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Modern applications are both data and computationally intensive and require the storage and manipulation of voluminous traditional (alphanumeric) and nontraditional data sets (images, text, geometric objects, time-series). Examples of such emerging application domains are: Geographical Information Systems (GIS), Multimedia Information Systems, CAD/CAM, Time-Series Analysis, Medical Information Sstems, On-Line Analytical Processing (OLAP), and Data Mining. These applications pose diverse requirements with respect to the information and the operations that need to be supported. From the database perspective, new techniques and tools therefore need to be developed towards increased processing efficiency.

This monograph explores the way spatial database management systems aim at supporting queries that involve the space characteristics of the underlying data, and discusses query processing techniques for nearest neighbor queries. It provides both basic concepts and state-of-the-art results in spatial databases and parallel processing research, and studies numerous applications of nearest neighbor queries.

Bio-Inspired Credit Risk Analysis - Computational Intelligence with Support Vector Machines (Paperback, Softcover reprint of... Bio-Inspired Credit Risk Analysis - Computational Intelligence with Support Vector Machines (Paperback, Softcover reprint of hardcover 1st ed. 2008)
Lean Yu, Shouyang Wang, Kin Keung Lai, Ligang Zhou
R2,653 Discovery Miles 26 530 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Credit risk analysis is one of the most important topics in the field of financial risk management. Due to recent financial crises and regulatory concern of Basel II, credit risk analysis has been the major focus of financial and banking industry. Especially for some credit-granting institutions such as commercial banks and credit companies, the ability to discriminate good customers from bad ones is crucial. The need for reliable quantitative models that predict defaults accurately is imperative so that the interested parties can take either preventive or corrective action. Hence credit risk analysis becomes very important for sustainability and profit of enterprises. In such backgrounds, this book tries to integrate recent emerging support vector machines and other computational intelligence techniques that replicate the principles of bio-inspired information processing to create some innovative methodologies for credit risk analysis and to provide decision support information for interested parties.

Data Analytics for Internal Auditors (Paperback): Richard E. Cascarino Data Analytics for Internal Auditors (Paperback)
Richard E. Cascarino
R1,429 Discovery Miles 14 290 Ships in 9 - 17 working days

There are many webinars and training courses on Data Analytics for Internal Auditors, but no handbook written from the practitioner's viewpoint covering not only the need and the theory, but a practical hands-on approach to conducting Data Analytics. The spread of IT systems makes it necessary that auditors as well as management have the ability to examine high volumes of data and transactions to determine patterns and trends. The increasing need to continuously monitor and audit IT systems has created an imperative for the effective use of appropriate data mining tools. This book takes an auditor from a zero base to an ability to professionally analyze corporate data seeking anomalies.
