Joe Dante directs this late 1980s comedy horror starring Tom Hanks and Bruce Dern. Life is pleasant, if dull, in the suburb of Hinckley Hills until the weird Klopeks move in next door to Ray Peterson (Hanks). When Ray decides to spend his week's vacation relaxing at home, he soon allows himself to be persuaded by his other neighbours that the Klopeks are in fact marauding killers, and joins in the suburbanites' investigation. The film also stars Carrie Fisher and Corey Feldman.

Akira Kurosawa's hugely influential 1950 historical crime drama. Winner of the top prize at the 1952 Venice Film Festival and an Honorary Academy Award the same year, the film concerns a woodcutter (Takashi Shimura) who witnesses a horrific series of events - an ambush, the rape of a noblewoman (Machiko Kyo) and the subsequent murder of her samurai husband (Mayasuki Mori) by a bandit (Toshiro Mifune). As the trio's overdeveloped fantasies are worked out whilst visiting the Louvre, cafés and even play-acting shootouts, it soon becomes apparent that the robbery is not going to go according to plan...

Emir Kusturica co-writes and directs this Serbian comedy drama. The film begins in Belgrade in 1944 and follows two likeable crooks, manipulative Marko (Miki Manojlovic) and loveable Blacky (Lazar Ristovski), as they are forced to take shelter when the Nazi's bombs begin to fall on their city. After the Germans move in to occupy Yugoslavia, Marko and Blacky begin supporting Partisan fighters by smuggling them weapons. Years later, when the war finally ends, Marko, who has now risen up the ranks of the country's communist country, manages to trick the sheltering townsfolk into believing that the fighting above them is still going on while they make more weapons for him to sell.

Keenen Ivory Wayans writes, directs and stars in this comedy spoof. Ex-soldier Jack Spade (Wayans) returns home to his old neighbourhood after his brother Junebug dies from an overdose of gold chains. When he finds that the crime lord Mr. Big (John Vernon) is the man behind it all, the wannabe hero vows to avenge his brother's death and joins forces with ghetto heroes John Slade (Bernie Casey), Hammer (Isaac Hayes) and Slammer (Jim Brown) to bring justice where justice is needed most.

Tobe Hooper scores and directs this slasher horror starring Neville Brand, Roberta Collins and Robert Englund. The film follows numerous people as they come up against the psychotic proprietor of a secluded hotel who keeps a pet crocodile with an insatiable appetite for human flesh...

Kaneto Shindô writes and directs this Japanese horror. Set in the ancient Heian era, Yone (Nobuko Otowa) and her 20-year-old daughter-in-law Shige (Kiwako Taichi) are scratching a meagre living in the forest when a band of marauding, depraved samurai rape and slay the two women, leaving their hut in ashes, and the blood-covered bodies splayed nearby. A passing black cat revives the spirits of the fallen women and transforms them into shape-shifting ghosts who proceed to wreak revenge on the samurai class by luring them into the surrounding bamboo groves. But one day the warrior Gintoki (Kichiemon Nakamura) returns home to find his wife and mother gone and is assigned to rid the country of the murderous ghosts.

Joaquin Phoenix and Josh Brolin star in this Academy Award-nominated crime comedy drama written and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. The all-star cast also includes Reese Witherspoon, Owen Wilson, Benicio Del Toro and Martin Short.
