James Marsh directs this award-winning biographical drama starring Eddie Redmayne as English physicist and cosmologist Stephen Hawking and Felicity Jones as his first wife Jane. The film follows the relationship between Stephen and Jane as they fall in love while studying at Cambridge during the 1960s. With Jane's support, Stephen is able to deal with his diagnosis of advanced motor neurone disease, which leads to him becoming almost completely paralysed over the years, and achieve great success and international acclaim in the scientific field with his theories on time and space. However, with the deterioration of his health comes a deterioration of his marriage, putting further strain on the now world-renowned scientist. The film won a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score as well as BAFTAs for Best Adapted Screenplay and Outstanding British Film. Eddie Redmayne also won a Golden Globe, a BAFTA and an Academy Award for his performance.
Ageing television presenter Howard Beale (Peter Finch) is on the edge of a mental breakdown when he is fired. He decides to open his heart to his audience, breaking down live on TV. Incredibly, this boosts his ratings, and Beale is re-hired and given his own show on which he can scream and shout. The film won three Oscars, with Paddy Chayevsky winning an award for the Best Original Screenplay.
Sidney Falco (Tony Curtis) is a New York press agent caught up in a complex relationship with the powerful newspaper columnist J.J. Hunsecker (Burt Lancaster). Falco needs to get his showbiz clients placed in the newspapers, and hangs around Hunsecker hoping to garner a mention in his column. Hunsecker is obsessively protective towards his sister Susan (Susan Harrison), and his only apparent desire is to see an end to her budding romance with jazz musician Steve Dallas (Martin Milner). Thus with Falco growing increasingly desperate, Hunsecker lets him know that the one way he can secure access to the column is to break up Susan and Steve, thereby setting in motion a chain of events which will tear them all apart.
Hans Hulscher directs this documentary about choreographer Jirí Kylián. The film captures Kylián as he visits Prague and holds rehearsals in Stuttgart, and features footage of his ballets, interviews with his colleagues and a performance by the Nederlands Dans Theater in Paris.

There she meets a young boy, Eiji (Nobuhiko Okamoto), and together they embark on an adventure.

Animated French film written and directed by Walerian Borowczyk. The story follows the lives of Mr Kabal (voice of Pierre Collet) and his mechanical monster wife (Louisette Rousseau) who get on each other's nerves but can't imagine being apart. When Mrs Kabal suffers from indigestion after eating a butterfly her husband has to travel inside her to find the source of the problem. The film was Borowczyk's first full-length feature.
Classic documentary drama based on Walter Lord's book about the sinking of the Titanic in 1912. Told from the perspective of Second Officer Charles Lightoller (Kenneth More), the story follows the supposedly 'unsinkable' ship as she embarks on her maiden voyage and ultimately founders in the North Atlantic Ocean. The ship leaves port and soon Captain Smith (Laurence Naismith) is given several ice warnings but decides not to decrease the Titanic's speed. When the ship hits an iceberg late at night on April 14th the situation looks bleak, especially with the realisation that there are not enough lifeboats to carry all on board. The Titanic's distress call is received by the Carpathia but she is four hours away and unlikely to reach the ship before it sinks. Chaos breaks out both above and below deck as the passengers and crew race against time for their survival.

Pier Paolo Pasolini's screen adaptation of the Greek tragedy stars opera diva Maria Callas in her only film role. Medea (Callas), daughter of a king, falls in love with Jason (Giuseppe Gentile) and helps him steal the Golden Fleece. She becomes Jason's wife and queen, but when he decides to leave her she wreaks a horrible revenge, murdering her own children.
Asghar Farhadi directs this highly-acclaimed Iranian drama, which won the 2012 Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, about the far-reaching effects of an acrimonious divorce. This Japanese comedy drama by Yasujiro Ozu, based on a novel by Ton Satomi, is a reworking of his earlier film 'Late Spring'. At the memorial service of their friend, Miwa (Chishu Ryu), three of his old friends devise a plot to find a husband for his unmarried daughter, Ayako (Yoko Tsukasa). To their consternation, Ayako refuses to fall in with their plan, expressing a preference to remain with her mother, Akiko (Setsuko Hara). The three men all harbour a lifetime crush on Akiko but agree that one of them should marry Ayako, which causes conflict among both family and friends. Eventually, with the help of Ayako's friend, Yukiko (Mariko Okada), Akiko and Ayako are reconciled, and Ayako concedes to marry according to the wishes of her elders.
