Hot-shot defence attorney Kevin Lomax (Keanu Reeves) seems to have landed on his feet when he is poached by an international law firm in New York. Lomax is welcomed by the charismatic John Milton (Al Pacino), who seems to take an especially close interest in his young employee's career. Meanwhile, Lomax's wife Mary-Ann (Charlize Theron) suffers a breakdown, believing that she is losing her husband to a dark and powerful force.

This is also the film which introduced 'White Christmas', a song that won an Oscar and spawned the movie with the same title in 1954.

Frances McDormand won the Best Actress Academy Award for her portrayal of the heavily pregnant Police Officer assigned to the case, while the film also won Best Original Screenplay.

Michael Cimino writes and directs this large-scale Western starring Kris Kristofferson and Christopher Walken. Set in the late 1800s in Johnson County, Wyoming, the film follows the conflict between American cattlemen and European immigrants. Harvard graduate James Averill (Kristofferson) is appointed marshal to keep the peace, but clashes with his friend, gunfighter Nate Champion (Walken), who is working for land baron Frank Canton (Sam Waterston). Champion, like Averill, is vying for the attentions of Ella Watson (Isabelle Huppert), the madam of the local brothel, which only adds to the rivalry between the two men. Soon the situation in Johnson County worsens and war breaks out with disastrous consequences. The cast also includes Joseph Cotton, Jeff Bridges, John Hurt and Mickey Rourke.
Silent film noir set in the 1920s in post-WW1 Germany. Dr Mabuse (Rudolph Klein-Rogge) is a sinister and mesmerising criminal with the ability to worm his way into the confidences of the rich and influential, and wield his power over men and women alike. He builds up a deadly gang of counterfeiters, thieves and murderers who will do anything for him, and aims to gain control of the stock market through his hypnotic methods of theft and blackmail. His dastardly methods are so successful that he is gradually taking over the whole of Berlin... until he comes up against the plodding and methodical Detective Wrenk, whose subconscious seems to be less easily won over.

One of them is Melanie Stryder (Saoirse Ronan), who, when out on a search for food, meets another human being named Jared Howe (Max Irons) and it isn't long before they begin to develop feelings for one another. However, when Melanie is taken by the alien species and is made host to one of their own, it seems all hope is lost. That is, until Melanie's mind begins to fight back against her new inhabitor and her human emotions and memories ignite some empathy in the alien parasite.

He then persuades a young woman named Marie Kreutz (Franka Potente) to drive him to Paris, where he hopes to find out his true identity and discover the reason why the CIA are taking such an interest in him. Psychological horror directed by Ben Wheatley. Set during the English Civil War, the film follows a small group of deserted soldiers who are captured by a mysterious alchemist by the name of O'Neil (Michael Smiley). When they are forced to help O'Neil find treasure that is believed to be hidden in a field, they feed themselves on the abundant mushrooms found in the English countryside. As their search continues, the group begin a quick descent into paranoid psychological turmoil and begin to suspect that the treasure they have been seeking may be something else altogether.
Tom Hooper directs this Academy Award-winning big-screen adaptation of the stage musical based on Victor Hugo's classic novel. Set in 19th-century France, the film tells the story of Jean Valjean (Hugh Jackman), a prisoner who breaks his parole and spends the next two decades fleeing from obsessive police inspector Javert (Russell Crowe). The ensemble supporting cast includes Helena Bonham Carter, Sacha Baron Cohen, Eddie Redmayne and Samantha Barks. Hathaway won the Academy Award, Golden Globe and BAFTA for her supporting performance. The film also won two additional Oscars and three BAFTAs, and received Golden Globe Awards for Best Motion Picture - Musical Or Comedy and Best Actor - Motion Picture Musical Or Comedy (Jackman).
Miguel Gomes directs this romantic drama, which pays homage to the silent films of F.W. Murnau and Robert J. Flaherty. Filmed in black and white, the film is divided into two parts, the first half takes up the story from the point of view of Pilar (Teresa Madruga), a middle-aged political activist whose neighbour Aurora (Laura Soveral) is a senile old lady with a gambling addiction and a propensity to tell colourful tales about her past in Mozambique. As Aurora's health starts to decline, she asks Pilar to track down a man called Ventura (Henrique Espírito Santo), with whom she had a passionate affair as a newly-married young woman. The second part of the film details the affair between the beautiful young Aurora (Ana Moreira) and her Portuguese lover (Carloto Cotta), revealing their secret passion that unfolded in Africa over half an century previously.
Guy Ritchie directs and co-writes this action comedy based on the 1960s TV series and starring Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer. Set in 1963, the story follows two agents, Napoleon Solo (Cavill) of the CIA and Illya Kuryakin (Hammer) of the KGB, who, much to their chagrin, are made to join forces and work together on a mission to bring down a mysterious criminal organisation that is intent on multiplying the number of nuclear weapons. Will the pair succeed? The cast also includes Alicia Vikander, Elizabeth Debicki, Jared Harris and Hugh Grant.
Michel Hazanavicius writes and directs this modern-day silent film comedy recounting the demise of the silent film industry in the late 1920s. Jean Dujardin takes on the role of George Valentin, one of the biggest stars of the silent movie era. George seems to have the perfect life: he loves his work, enjoys adoration from fans and falls in love with a beautiful young starlet, Peppy Miller (Bérénice Bejo), after working with her on a movie. When studio boss Zimmer (John Goodman) warns him that the future of film making lies in 'talkies', George is dismissive of the threat. However, as films with audible dialogue begin to take off - with Peppy the undoubted star of the new medium - George struggles to keep pace with a changing world. The film was nominated for ten Oscars at the 2012 Academy Awards and won five, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor (Dujardin).
