In "Spirit Warrior," Donald Wigton Jr. celebrates his life as a hunter and a Christian. In a series of stories that blend spirituality and nature, he recounts tales that only hard-core outdoorsmen can relate to: the buck that got away, the rattlesnake's venomous bite, or simply the glory of God's beautiful Earth. When Wigton comes between a bear and her cubs in "Bear Bait," he finds his soul-soothing Sunday quickly transformed into a think-fast-or-die situation. He is soon pinned under the bear, fighting for his life, but quick thinking and a generous dose of prayer save him from death. This seasoned seeker's perspective has a magical way of placing readers in the midst of each fascinating story. Wigton urges hunters to give back-instead of just taking-to preserve the world as we know it, for truly spiritual hunters understand that someday all of God's creatures will be one in the spirit world. Learn how to seek God within yourself and nature as he shares poems that celebrate the glory of the Lord, of hunting, and of the spiritual realm.
This study assesses the significance of the hunting cult as a major element of the imperial experience in Africa and Asia. Through a study of the game laws and the beginnings of conservation in the 19th and early-20th centuries, the author demonstrates the racial inequalities which existed between Europeans and indigenous hunters. Africans were denied access to game, and the development of game reserves and national parks accelerated this process. Indigenous hunters in Africa and India were turned into "poachers" and only Europeans were permitted to hunt. In India, the hunting of animals became the chief recreation of military officers and civilian officials, a source of display and symbolic dominance of the environment. Imperial hunting fed the natural history craze of the day, and many hunters collected trophies and specimens for private and public collections as well as contributing to hunting literature. Adopting a radical approach to issues of conservation, this book links the hunting cult in Africa and India to the development of conservation, and consolidates widely-scattered material on the importance of hunting to the economics and nutrition of African societies. -- .

Strap on your life jacket, and pack your rain gear. You're going Fishing with Joe. Joe probably never won a fishing tournament, or held a world record. That's not why Joe fishes. This is a very extraordinary book about fishing because it's about very ordinary Joe, his adventures, misjudgments, mistakes, errors, and occasional triumphs. This is not a how-to book, but even veteran anglers will learn something from Joe. Non-anglers will be intrigued by Joe, and by this infectious madness called fishing. There may even be some life-lessons. But learning is not the primary intent. Both will laugh at Joe, and with Joe. It's a fun read You'll meet some characters, not just colorful - vivid. The narrative spans over seventy years and much of the continent, including three different North American countries, and even one foray into the jungles of Malaysia. And, unlike most fishing tales, it is meticulously factual: exactly as it happened, white-knuckle moments, and moments of supreme tranquility alike. Who is Joe? He is certainly someone you know........maybe you

The M9 has been the United States Army's standard bayonet for over two decades - with no plans in sight to replace it. In fact, it is already the longest serving American bayonet, joining the M-16 as an enduring symbol of the American soldier. Without exaggeration, it has become an icon of the American Army in much the same way as the Gladius became symbolic of the Roman Legions. This book chiefly focuses on the M9, its manufacturers, evolution, variations, accessories, and collectability with the objective to spotlight only those M9s of military issue. Beyond that, the intention is to provide fellow collectors with a reference and a tool that will enhance their collecting experience through objective data as well as personal knowledge and experience. There is no other bayonet in all of American military history which possesses such a one of a kind individualism while at the same time displaying so obvious an American personality of design as the M9!
