Richard Muller, a world-class scholar of the Reformation era,
examines the relationship of Calvin's theology to the Reformed
tradition, indicating Calvin's place in the tradition as one of
several significant second-generation formulators. Muller argues
that the Reformed tradition is a diverse and variegated movement
not suitably described either as founded solely on the thought of
John Calvin or as a reaction to or deviation from Calvin, thereby
setting aside the old "Calvin and the Calvinists" approach in favor
of a more integral and representative perspective. Muller offers
historical corrective and nuance on topics of current interest in
Reformed theology, such as limited atonement/universalism, union
with Christ, and the order of salvation.

Medieval saint, mystic, healer, and visionary-Hildegard von Bingen
has made a comeback. She is now popular in natural healing circles,
in medieval and women's studies, and among those interested in
investing the everyday with the spiritual.
Hildegard's Healing Plants is a gift version and new translation of
the 'Plant' section of Physica, Hildegard's classic work on health
and healing. Hildegard comments on 230 plants and grains-most of
which are still grown in home gardens and sold at local health food
stores. In one of many entries on women's health, Hildegard writes,
'Also if a pregnant woman labors much in childbirth, let someone
cook pleasant herbs, such as fennel and assurum, in water with fear
and great moderation, squeeze out the water, and place them while
they are warm around her thighs and back, tied gently with a piece
of cloth, so that her pain and her closed womb is opened more
pleasantly and easily.'
Whether read for the sheer enjoyment of Hildegard's earthy,
intelligent voice ("Let a man who has an overabundance of lust in
his loins cook wild lettuce in water and pour it over himself in a
sauna") or for her encyclopedic and often still relevant
understanding of natural health, "Hildegard's Healing Plants" is a
treasure for gardeners, natural healing enthusiasts, and Hildegard
fans everywhere.

The third quest for the historical Jesus has reached an impasse.
But a fourth quest is underway--one that draws from a heretofore
largely neglected source: John's Gospel. In this book, renowned New
Testament scholar Craig Blomberg advances the idea that John is a
viable and valuable source for studying the historical Jesus. The
data from John should be integrated with that of the Synoptics,
which will yield additional insights into Jesus's emphases and
ministry. Blomberg begins by reviewing the first three quests,
reassessing both their contributions and their shortcomings. He
then discusses the emerging consensus regarding demonstrably
historical portions of John, which are more numerous than usually
assumed. Peeling back the layers, we discover in Jesus's ministry
an emphasis on purity and purification. The Synoptics corroborate
this discovery, specifically in Jesus's meals with sinners.
Blomberg then explores the practical and contemporary applications
of Jesus the purifier, including the "contagious holiness" that
Jesus's followers can spread to others.
For most of us, prayer is a struggle. We know we should pray. It
would be good for us--help us be more grounded, more connected to
God. But in our hurried lives, slowing down to pray can feel like a
cosmic waste of time. Do our prayers even matter? What, if
anything, happens when we pray? Are we having words with God or
just words with ourselves? In this thoughtful book, Addison Bevere
takes you into and through the tension of prayer--the struggles,
the doubts, the answers--to the place where God makes himself real
to you. Tired of boring, empty, transactional prayer? This is the
book for you. "Addison's book takes us through our desires for
prayer, our disappointments in prayer, and the profound deeper plan
of God for our prayers. This is the book you'll return to again and
again."--Mark Batterson, New York Times bestselling author of The
Circle Maker, lead pastor of National Community Church in
Washington, D.C. "This beautifully written book is honest,
intelligent, mysterious, and hope-filled. It's the kind of book
about prayer that makes you want to pray."--Annie F. Downs, New
York Times bestselling author of That Sounds Fun "Addison takes us
beyond cliches and into the heart of God in a way that is biblical,
personal, and deeply satisfying. This will stir fresh hunger for
intimate conversations with God."--Jon Tyson, author of Beautiful
Resistance, pastor of Church of the City New York www.church.nyc
This book explores how religions have changed in a globalized world
and how Christianity is unique among them. Harold Netland, an
expert in philosophical aspects of religion and pluralism, offers a
fresh analysis of religion in today's globalizing world. He
challenges misunderstandings of the concept of religion itself and
shows how particular religious traditions, such as Buddhism,
undergo significant change with modernization and globalization.
Netland then responds to issues concerning the plausibility of
Christian commitments to Jesus Christ and the unique truth of the
Christian gospel in light of religious diversity. The book
concludes with basic principles for living as Christ's disciples in
religiously diverse contexts.

"Scott's brilliantly perceptive account of the underpinnings of
American governmental authority should be made required reading.
The book vividly depicts the political forces that have pushed this
country toward an abyss, threatening constitutional democracy at
home and world peace abroad. Its central message can be understood
as an urgent wake-up call to everyone concerned with the future of
America."--Richard Falk, author of "The Great Terror War"
"Peter Dale Scott is one of that tiny and select company of the
most brilliantly creative and provocative political-historical
writers of the last half century. "The Road to 9/11" further
secures his distinction as truth-teller and prophet. He shows us
here with painful yet hopeful clarity the central issue of our
time--America's coming to terms with its behavior in the modern
world. As in his past work, Scott's gift is not only recognition
and wisdom but also redemption and rescue we simply cannot do
without."--Roger Morris, former NSC staffer
""The Road to 9/11" is vintage Peter Dale Scott. Scott does not
undertake conventional political analysis; instead, he engages in a
kind of poetics, crafting the dark poetry of the deep state, of
parapolitics, and of shadow government. As with his earlier work
"Deep Politics and the Death of JFK," Scott has no theory of
responsibility and does not name the guilty. Rather, he maps out an
alien terrain, surveying the topography of a political shadow land,
in which covert political deviancy emerges as the norm. After
reading Scott, we can no longer continue with our consensus-driven
belief that our so-called 'liberal' order renders impossible the
triumph of the politically irrational."--EricWilson, Senior
Lecturer of Public International Law, Monash University, and
co-editor of "Government of the Shadows"
"Peter Dale Scott exposes a shadow world of oil, terrorism, drug
trade and arms deals, of covert financing and parallel security
structures-from the Cold War to today. He shows how such parallel
forces of the United States have been able to dominate the agenda
of the George W. Bush Administration, and that statements and
actions made by Vice President Cheney and Defense Secretary
Rumsfeld before, during and after September 11, 2001, present
evidence for an American 'deep state' and for the so-called
'Continuity of Government' in parallel to the regular 'public
state' ruled by law. Scott's brilliant work not only reveals the
overwhelming importance of these parallel forces but also presents
elements of a strategy for restraining their influence to win back
the 'public state', the American democracy."--Ola Tunander,
International Peace Research Institute, Oslo
"A powerful study of the historic origins of the terrorist strikes
of September 11, this book offers an indispensable guide to the
gluttonous cast of characters who, since Watergate and the fall of
Nixon, fashioned an ever more reckless American empire. By exposing
the corrupt U.S. 'deep state'-transfer of public authority to
America's wealthy and to the nation's unaccountable secret
intelligence agencies-Peter Dale Scott's "The Road to 9/11"
illuminates the path toward a more democratic and inclusive
republic."--David MacGregor, King's University College at the
University of Western Ontario
""The Road to 9/11" provides an illuminating and disturbing history
of the American government since World War II.Scott's account
suggests that the 9/11 attacks were a culmination of long-term
trends that threaten the very existence of American democracy, and
also that there has been a massive cover-up of 9/11 itself. This
book, which combines extensive research, perceptive analysis, and a
fascinating narrative, will surely be considered Scott's magnum
opus."--David Ray Griffin, author of "Debunking 9/11 Debunking"
"'The America we knew and loved. Can it be saved?' That question
opens this book, and getting to the answer called for the honed
intellect of a scholar and the sensitivity of a poet. Peter Dale
Scott has both, in spades, and here gives us much, much more than a
book about 9/11. In a time of fear, he speaks for sanity and
freedom."--Anthony Summers, author of "The Arrogance of Power"

Vital Teaching on an Imperative, Timeless Topic from Derek Prince
Now updated and expanded, with several brand-new chapters and

imparted to believers in his last years: how to prepare for and
take their places in the ultimate, ongoing spiritual battle. With
superb biblical exposition and hands-on application, Prince
explains that Christians need to be more than just disciples; they
need to be warriors. He shows them how to build a warrior's
character, to face testing, to fight alongside the Holy Spirit, to
influence the outcomes of spiritual battles, and more.
With this manual in hand, believers will learn how to fulfill their
roles confidently in both day-to-day trials and in God's plan for
the finale of the ages.
Biblicism, an approach to the Bible common among some American
evangelicals, emphasizes together the Bible's exclusive authority,
infallibility, clarity, self-sufficiency, internal consistency,
self-evident meaning, and universal applicability. Acclaimed
sociologist Christian Smith argues that this approach is misguided
and unable to live up to its own claims. If evangelical biblicism
worked as its proponents say it should, there would not be the vast
variety of interpretive differences that biblicists themselves
reach when they actually read and interpret the Bible. Far from
challenging the inspiration and authority of Scripture, Smith
critiques a particular rendering of it, encouraging evangelicals to
seek a more responsible, coherent, and defensible approach to
biblical authority.
