To be a skateboarder today is a much different experience than it
was for much of the 1990s. The photographs, quotes, and anecdotal
text in '93 til captures a time in skateboarding when making a
liveable income as a professional skater was a luxury and public
understanding of skateboarding was at an all-time low. It was a
time when skateboarding was searching for an identity, a time
before Instagram and big corporate influences. Street skating was
coming of age, testing its limitations and aligning itself with a
new and innovative style of hip-hop culture that was emerging.
Looking back, many skaters today feel as though the '90s were the
golden years of skateboarding. '93 til is a captivating portal into
a decade and a culture that is remembered with warmth and
nostalgia. Much of the photography that Pete has unearthed for '93
til was buried in boxes for close to two decades and has never been
seen or published before. The 250-page book also contains several
timeless images from his years shooting for SLAP and Transworld
Skateboarding Magazine that will be familiar to the initiated. In
addition to his stunning action shots are plenty of portraits and
unguarded, candid moments that span from the late '80s up through
2004. The book reveals a raw, unapologetic perspective of a world
that no longer exists. Also included in the book alongside Pete's
imagery are quotes and anecdotes from legends like Tony Hawk, Arto
Saari, Jamie Thomas, Guy Mariano, Nyjah Huston, Geoff Rowley,
Stevie Williams and others.
We have all directed our gaze into the sky, enjoying the peace and
solitude of nature, anticipating to see the shape of something in
the clouds. Cheryl Simpson started seeing angels more than 20 years
ago and has been recording their images ever since. She feels that
if it looks like an angel it more than likely is one, waiting to
see who will notice them hovering above. Not long after she started
collecting these photos she was drawn to automatic writing, a
method of asking a question of ones' angels, guides, or God and
receiving an answer. Often, not having a particular question in
mind, she would just ask what they had to say. The messages were
always uplifting and imparted pertinent angelic wisdom. Angels
Overhead is a collection of photographs of some of these angel
formations, and several of the angels' messages and poems. They
show themselves to make us aware of their presence, to affirm we
are always loved, protected and guided. We only have to ask for
what we need and be patient for our wish to be answered in whatever
form our Creator has chosen to deliver it, on the wings of angels.
We tend to think of icons as simple, graphic, stone or wooden
objects without much depth or life, left overs from bygone eras.
But Bruce Irving, former producer of the popular PBS show This Old
House, will have none of that. In a collection of short essays,
Irving taps into our collective consciousness by extolling the
comforting sense of place we associate with such common and
not-so-common New England sights as stone walls, village greens,
lobster boats, classic ski runs, and garden cemeteries, to name but
a few symbols of enduring importance that are also still full of
life and character. Curl up in your favorite chair, relax, and take
a tour of our common heritage or take this insightful cultural
guide with you as you travel New England s highways and byways. It
s sure to shed new light on the old stalwart landscape features you
see every day.

America's southernmost state is a place of great diversity and
energy. The United States' fourth largest economy and home to more
than 20 million people, Florida also hosts more than 100 million
visitors every year, most of whom arrive to enjoy the beaches, warm
weather and entertainment of 'The Sunshine State'. Images of
tanning tourists, retired seniors and Mickey Mouse give an
incomplete picture of Florida. The state is also home to the
Everglades, a vast area of sub-tropical wetlands and swamps filled
with alligators and flamingos; Miami's Cuban culture and cuisine;
the international race course at Daytona Beach; the Kennedy Space
Center, which has been launching NASA space shuttles since 1964;
and the famous Florida Keys, a coral archipelago stretching out
into the Gulf of Mexico. Presented in a handy, pocket-sized
landscape format and with captions explaining the story behind each
photo, Florida is a stunning collection of images bringing to life
the vitality of this sunny American state.
