Lee Miller, 1927 - New York: A classically beautiful young woman,
she is discovered by Conde Nast, hits the cover of Vogue and is
immortalized by Steichen, Hoyningen-Huene, Horst and other famous
photographers. Lee Miller, 1929 - Paris: Protege and lover of Man
Ray, she invents with him the solarization technique of
photography, develops into a brilliant Surrealist photographer, and
plays the statue in Cocteau's film Blood of a Poet. Lee Miller,
1939-45 - Europe: Living at times with her future husband, the
painter Roland Penrose, she becomes a US war correspondent and
covers the siege of St Malo and the liberation of Paris. Her
photographs of Dachau concentration camp shock the world. These are
but three of the many lives of Lee Miller, intimately recorded here
by her son, Antony Penrose. Featuring a selection of her finest
work, including portraits of her friends Picasso, Ernst and Miro,
Penrose's tribute to his mother brings to life a uniquely talented
woman and the turbulent times in which she lived. With 116

As the General Motors plant in Lordstown, Ohio halted production
and faced possible closure, displacing its workers, artist LaToya
Ruby Frazier joined with these workers, their families, and their
local union leaders to tell the story of the plant in its final
days. After more than fifty years of automobile production and a
commitment to manufacture the Chevrolet Cruze until 2021, the
facility was recently “unallocated†by GM, as the company
shifts its focus toward overseas manufacturing and the production
of electric and autonomous vehicles. For many, this meant uprooting
their families and giving up the support of a close-knit community.
Those who turned down transfers to GM plants in other states lost
their income, pensions, and benefits. The Last Cruze, which sets
out to amplify the voices of the auto workers in Lordstown,
introduces a new chapter to Frazier’s work in investigating
labor, family, community, and the working class. Exhibited at the
Renaissance Society in 2019, this body of work includes over sixty
photographs, alongside the written stories of the workers, and was
staged within an installation that echoes the structure of the
plant’s assembly line. This substantial catalogue includes
extensive documentation of the work and introduces new essays and
dialogues by contributors including Coco Fusco, David Harvey,
Werner Lange, Lynn Nottage, Julia Reichert, Benjamin Young, and
members of the local chapter of the United Auto Workers. Â
In this curated collection of art and photography from his personal
archive, Graham Nash's life as a musician and artist unfolds in
vivid detail. Best known as a founding member of the Hollies and
supergroup Crosby, Stills & Nash, Nash developed a love of
photography from the time he was a child. Inspired by his father,
Nash began taking pictures at 11 years old and would go on to take
his camera with him ever since--on tour with the Hollies and later
CSN, among friends at Laurel Canyon and abroad. Many of his
photographs depict intimate moments with family and friends, among
them Joni Mitchell, Stephen Stills, and Neil Young. Nash's playful
and observant eye would lead him to capture quiet moments
backstage, landscapes, still lifes, and street photography, and
also create poignant paintings and collages. This volume presents
these images alongside Nash's own reflections, telling the story
behind the pictures and giving insight into the life of one of the
greatest musicians of all time.
