The Research in Careers series is designed in five volumes to provide scholars a unique forum to examine careers issues in today's changing, global workplace. What makes this series unique is that the volumes are connected by the use of Mainiero and Sullivan's (2006) Kaleidoscope Career Model (KCM) as the organizing framework and the theme underlying the volumes. In Volume 4 of the Research in Careers series, the authors explore the influence of challenge on career development and career outcomes. The contributors investigate career challenge in different national contexts (e.g., India) and in different career fields (e.g., entrepreneurship, nursing) and for different groups (nurses, Millennials). The outcomes studied include career satisfaction, leadership skills, and occupational expertise. Finally, negative effects of challenge are suggested.

Previous scholars have investigated aspects of the complexity of teacher identity and demonstrated the need to look beyond skills and generalized "best practices" to consider social processes and power relationships. However, few books focus on teacher identities at both the micro and macro levels. In this timely book, the authors argue that teacher identity awareness is crucial for both preservice and in-service teachers who desire deeper knowledge about the role of identities in effective instruction. The Complex Development of Preservice and Inservice Teacher Identities breaks new theoretical ground in understanding teacher identities by bringing a process drama lens to bear on development at the macro and micro levels. Process drama uses dramatic structures such as teacher in role, students in role, tableau and others to activate imaginations and explore interpretive possibilities. Through this lens Crumpler and Handsfield show how teacher identities are performed, reproduced, and how they may shift at the micro level-in everyday discourse and classroom practices-across a span of two years. Two years of data are analyzed using micro-ethnographic discourse analysis to demonstrate how teachers tactically position themselves to navigate current political discourses of accountability and standardization in both pre-service and in-service contexts. Understanding how identities are constructed, evolve, and shift moment-by-moment is essential for programs striving to prepare successful teachers and for schools providing meaningful professional development for in-service teachers.

This volume culls scholarship on both what high literacy is and how it is developed. It embraces the call put forth by Langer and Applebee (2016) that high literacy must continue to be our aim and to see more research analyzing and identifying how teachers might promote literacy practices that promote deep thinking around important content. The resulting empirical data have already proven to be invaluable for gaining novel insights into the network's spatio-temporal dynamics, and can be expected to become even more important when trying to explain the Internet's complex and emergent behaviour in terms of elementary networking-based mechanisms. The discoveries of fractal or self-similar network traffic traces, power-law behaviour in network topology and World Wide Web connectivity are instances of unsuspected, emergent system traits. Another important factor at the heart of fair, efficient, and stable sharing of network resources is user behaviour. Network systems, when habited by selfish or greedy users, take on the traits of a non-cooperative multi-party game, and their stability and efficiency are integral to understanding the overall system and its dynamics. Lastly, fault-tolerance and robustness of large-scale network systems can exhibit spatial and temporal correlations whose effective analysis and management may benefit from rescaling techniques applied in certain physical and biological systems. The present book will bring together several of the leading workers involved in the analysis of complex problems with the future development of the Internet.
