Society is becoming increasingly multi-lingual and this presents monolingual professionals, particularly those in special education and speech pathology, with severe problems. Is the language delay in a child from a bilingual environment a result of this background or is there a specific speech problem? Is a child's poor performance in school due to his problems of coping with two languages, or does he need remedial teaching? Originally published in 1984, this book is not concerned with second language learning, but with speech and learning difficulties in bilingual children as they are presented to remedial teachers, psychologists and speech therapists. This title is based on the results of a project based at the Tavistock Clinic in London which set out to explore whether children and young people aged nine years to fifteen years suffering from depression could be helped using brief focused psychodynamic psychotherapy together with parent work and family therapy. There were also centres in Athens, Greece and Helsinki, Finland, and in this way the clinicians had sufficient subjects from which to compare the interventions and check for any possible cultural differences in the results. Most of the children and young people studied showed a noticeable improvement. The book contains chapters by the clinicians involved describing their work as well as a section containing the scientific papers that emerged from the project. The Stein Fellow and Drexel University Pediatric Neuropsychology Symposium was held in collaboration with the Philadelphia Neuropsychology Society in November 2010. The genesis of this book occurred several years ago provide readers with not only the "what to do" of child behavior therapy, but the "how to do it" as in Seattle on the veranda of a Chilean cafe overlook well. One of the difficulties in assembling an edited analysis and therapy has experienced rapid growth over the past forty years, but lamenting that books in book is ensuring a high degree of continuity and the area did not reflect the advancements made in the similarity between chapters, without infringing on assessment and treatment of a wide variety of prob the individual writing style of the authors.
