Tool and Cutter Sharpening - Workshop Practice Series 38 (Paperback): Harold Hall Tool and Cutter Sharpening - Workshop Practice Series 38 (Paperback)
Harold Hall
R306 Discovery Miles 3 060 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Sharpening workshop tools is probably the most diverse of all workshop activities and the one that is least understood by the majority of workshop owners. This is not unreasonable in view of the wide range of equipment suggested for the task, ranging from the complex, typically an industrial tool and cutter grinder, through to the humble off hand grinder. This book illustrates how most sharpening tasks can be carried out using an off hand grinder and a few simply made accessories, whilst doing this to a standard comparable to that achieved using much more sophisticated equipment. A lack of understanding of the processes almost certainly results in the workshop owner attempting tasks with far from perfect cutting tools that can diminish the satisfaction of a job well done. With the information in this book this situation can be avoided and working with blunt tooling should be a thing of the past.

Foseco Ferrous Foundryman's Handbook (Hardcover, 11th edition): John Brown Foseco Ferrous Foundryman's Handbook (Hardcover, 11th edition)
John Brown
R2,936 Discovery Miles 29 360 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The Foseco Ferrous Foundryman's Handbook is a practical reference book for all those concerned with making castings in any of the commonly used alloys, by any of the usual moulding methods.
International SI units are used throughout, but in almost all cases conversions to the more familiar Metric and Imperial units are given. Wherever possible, Casting Alloy Specifications include equivalent specifications for several countries as well as international specifications. Individual chapters cover the casting of light alloys, copper-based alloys, all types of cast-iron and steel. For each group of alloys,
specifications and typical applications are described, together with details of melting practice, metal treatment and casting practice. Sand moulding materials, including green sand and chemically bonded sands are also included.

Metal Cutting Mechanics (Hardcover): Viktor P. Astakhov Metal Cutting Mechanics (Hardcover)
Viktor P. Astakhov
R5,497 Discovery Miles 54 970 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Metal Cutting Mechanics outlines the fundamentals of metal cutting analysis, reducing the extent of empirical approaches to the problems as well as bridging the gap between design and manufacture. The author distinguishes his work from other works through these aspects:
considering the system engineering of the cutting process
identifying the singularity of the cutting process among other closely related manufacturing processes by chip formation, caused by bending and shear stresses in the deformation zone
suggesting a distinctive way toward predictability of the metal cutting process
devoting special attention to experimental methodology
Metal Cutting Mechanics provides an exceptional balance between general reading and research analysis, presenting industrial and academic requirements in terms of basic scientific factors as well as application potential.

Thermo-energetic Design of Machine Tools - A Systemic Approach to Solve the Conflict Between Power Efficiency, Accuracy and Productivity Demonstrated at the Example of Machining Production (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 2015)
Knut Großmann
R3,324 Discovery Miles 33 240 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

The approach to the solution within the CRC/TR 96 financed by the German Research Foundation DFG aims at measures that will allow manufacturing accuracy to be maintained under thermally unstable conditions with increased productivity, without an additional demand for energy for tempering. The challenge of research in the CRC/TR 96 derives from the attempt to satisfy the conflicting goals of reducing energy consumption and increasing accuracy and productivity in machining. In the current research performed in 19 subprojects within the scope of the CRC/TR 96, correction and compensation solutions that influence the thermo-elastic machine tool behaviour efficiently and are oriented along the thermo-elastic functional chain are explored and implemented. As part of this general objective, the following issues must be researched and engineered in an interdisciplinary setting and brought together into useful overall solutions:   1.  Providing the modelling fundamentals to calculate the heat fluxes and the resulting thermo-elastic deformations in a comprehensive manner, 2.  Mapping of the structural variability as a result of the relative movement inside the machine tool, 3.  Providing the tools for an efficient adjustment of parameters that vary greatly in time and space by means of parameter identification methods as a prerequisite for correction and compensation solutions, 4.  Engineering and demonstrating solutions to control-integrated correction of thermo-elastic errors by an inverse position setpoint compensation of the error at the TCP, 5.  Engineering and demonstrating solutions based on the material properties to compensate for thermo-elastic effects through a homogeneous propagation of the temperature field, as well as reducing and smoothing the distribution of heat dissipated in supporting structures, 6.  Developing metrological fundamentals to record the thermo-elastic errors in special structural areas of machine tools, 7.  Engineering a methodological approach to simultaneous and complex evaluation of the CRC/TR 96 solutions, referring to their impact on product quality, production rate, energy consumption and machine tool costs

Extended Defects in Semiconductors - Electronic Properties, Device Effects and Structures (Paperback): D.B. Holt, B. G Yacobi Extended Defects in Semiconductors - Electronic Properties, Device Effects and Structures (Paperback)
D.B. Holt, B. G Yacobi
R2,099 Discovery Miles 20 990 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The elucidation of the effects of structurally extended defects on electronic properties of materials is especially important in view of the current advances in electronic device development that involve defect control and engineering at the nanometer level. This book surveys the properties, effects, roles and characterization of extended defects in semiconductors. The basic properties of extended defects (dislocations, stacking faults, grain boundaries, and precipitates) are outlined, and their effect on the electronic properties of semiconductors, their role in semiconductor devices, and techniques for their characterization are discussed. These topics are among the central issues in the investigation and applications of semiconductors and in the operation of semiconductor devices. The authors preface their treatment with an introduction to semiconductor materials and conclude with a chapter on point defect maldistributions. This text is suitable for advanced undergraduate and graduate students in materials science and engineering, and for those studying semiconductor physics.
