Angesichts del' ausserordentlichen Bedeutung, die die Chromgerbung auch in Deutschland heute schon erlangt hat, muss es besonders aufi'allend erscheinen, dass es noch kein Specialwerk tiber Chromgerbung giebt, und gleichzeitig dtirfte das Fehlen eines solchen Buches von den Fachleuten als ein grosser Mangel empfunden worden sein, ebenso, wie er sich mil' selbst bei meiner, wenn auch nul' theoretischen Beschaf- tigung mit del' Chromgerbung recht haufig ftihlbar gemacht hat. In del' vorliegenden Arbeit ist nun versucht worden, diese Lticke einigermassen auszuftillen. Es handelt sich dabei nicht urn die Ergebnisse eigener Forschungen und Versuche, sondern urn eine moglichst voll- standige und tibersichtliche Zusammenstellung dessen, was bis- her tiber die Chromgerbung verofi'entlicht und an Erfahrungen gesammelt worden ist. Del' Fachmann wird also kaum wesent- lich N eues in den folgenden Blattern finden; trotzdem dtirfte es auch ihm willkommen sein, das bisher in der Fachpresse und Litteratur, sowie in zahlreichen Patentschriften des In- und Auslandes verstreute Material hier vereinigt zu finden. Von einer Sichtung des Materials wurde dem vorstehend an- gegebenen Zwecke des Buches entsprechend Abstand ge- nommen, abgesehen davon, dass eine solche Sichtung nul' auf Grund eingehender Versuche hatte erfolgen konnen, deren Ausftihrung mir nicht moglich war.
