Gathered from sources that span the globe and cross the centuries, this unique collection of prayers provides a treasury of inspiration for anyone seeking spiritual sustenance. With works from well-known religious figures as well as more secular writers, these words enrich the soul and elevate the mind.
This incredible though little-known classic of Catholic spirituality presents before the reader the entire school of true Christian holiness and the means and exercises necessary to attain sanctity. As no one shall enter Heaven who is not perfect, then if we wish to attain to that perfection which will gain us entrance to eternal happiness with The Blessed Trinity, with Jesus, with Our Lady, St. Joseph and all the Saints and Angels, we need to start in earnest and with a sure method to correct every aspect of our lives. The Imitation of the Sacred Heart of Jesus by Fr. Peter Arnoudt, S.J. is just such a "sure method" that the soul needs as a guide to perfection. For it begins at the beginning and covers every means at our disposal as Catholics, which we have and which we need to perfect ourselves plus it covers every pitfall that we face in the daunting task of attaining holiness.

2012 Reprint of 1925 Edition. Exact facsimile of the original edition, not reproduced with Optical Recognition Software. "Days of Heaven on Earth' was compiled by Simpson himself in response to repeated requests for daily readings. From his over 2,000 printed sermons, he selected these thought-provoking meditations, one for each day of the year. This spiritual gold mine met with instant approval and has been through many printings. Valuable wherever wise words are treasured. During the beginning of the twentieth century, Simpson became closely involved with the growing Pentecostal movement, an offshoot of the Holiness movement. It was common for Pentecostal pastors and missionaries to receive their training at the Missionary Training Institute now Nyack College] that Simpson founded. Through the school and his own writings and teachings Simpson had a great influence on Pentecostalism, in particular the Assemblies of God and the Church of the Foursquare Gospel.

God's Word is the strongest weapon in a believer's spiritual artillery. Quin Sherrer and Ruthanne Garlock, bestselling authors of A Woman's Guide to Spiritual Warfare, believe that when Christians use the Bible in intercession and warfare, they bind the power of the evil one and declare God's promises and victory for their lives and for those they love. In The Spiritual Warrior's Prayer Guide, they show the reader how to apply biblical promises to every area of life, whether in illness, financial trouble, depression, concern for wayward loved ones, unemployment, or spiritual confusion.
First full-length study of the role and duties of the medieval cantor. Cantors made unparalleled contributions to the way time was understood and history was remembered in the medieval Latin West. The men and women who held this office in cathedrals and monasteries were responsible for calculating the date of Easter and the feasts dependent on it, for formulating liturgical celebrations season by season, managing the library and preparing manuscripts and other sources necessary to sustain the liturgical framework of time, andpromoting the cults of saints. Crucially, their duties also often included committing the past to writing, from simple annals and chronicles to fuller histories, necrologies, and cartularies, thereby ensuring that towns, churches, families, and individuals could be commemorated for generations to come. This volume seeks to address the fundamental question of how the range of cantors' activities can help us to understand the many different ways in which the past was written and, in the liturgy, celebrated across the Middle Ages. Its essays are studies of constructions, both of the building blocks of time and of the people who made and performed them, in acts of ritual remembrance and in written records; cantors, as this book makes clear, shaped the communal experience of the past in the Middle Ages. "Here, in these words from his lectures and prayers in the Geneva Academy, John Calvin most fully revealed his heart. As he prepared an international gathering of talented young men for gospel ministry--and not a few for martyrdom--he poured his knowledge into them and prayed fervently with them. Here he models what he sought to teach: if a man would be a pastor he must know God. If he would know God and serve man he must devote himself to prayer and the ministry of the word." - Sinclair B Ferguson "This precious book confirms Calvin's conviction that the Word and prayer work together to develop genuine piety in the Christian. Calvin taught that the Word is God's communication to us, providing us with spiritual food and medicine for spiritual health. Prayer is our communication to God by which we express praise and adoration, and bow in submissive piety before Him. May God mightily use this little volume to foster this spirit of devotion in many hearts and lives." -Dr. Joel R. Beeke

"The Work of Day and Night" (Amal al-yawm wa'l-layla) was written by Imam Jalal al-Din al-Suyuti as a guide to correct conduct and worship in accordance with the example of the Prophet and the Pious Predecessors. Translated into English by Rashad Jameer, "The Work of Day and Night" contains some of the most beautiful prayers in Islamic devotional literature, and Suyuti has provided guidance for nearly every situation that one is likely to encounter day-to-day. In it the reader will find: the prayers said upon awakening, before eating and when dressing; the acts carried out at various times of the day and between prayers; and much else. A special section is dedicated to prayers that are recommended for reading at times of need due to their widely recognised protective qualities. "The Work of Day and Night" is invaluable for learning the Sunna of the Prophet and integrating it into one's life, as Suyuti took great care to explain precisely how to perform each of the daily practices in accordance with the example of the Prophet Muhammad.---It is hoped that this bilingual volume of "The Work of Day and Night" will enable a wider English-speaking audience to access one of the treasures of traditional Islamic knowledge and practice, and that it will provide Muslim readers with a source of inspiration in everyday life. A selection of the most beautiful and useful prayers has been transliterated and included in an appendix so that all worshippers may benefit by reciting them-regardless of Arabic ability. There is also a glossary of the most important religious terms.
For Catholics, the family is recognized as the "domestic church,"
and it is in the family that people learn to recognize the love of
God and to turn to Him in prayer. It is in the family that people
first learn the virtues of living a God-centered life.
