This tasty collection of classic cocktails was first published by
J. A. Grohusko in the early days of the twentieth century as Jack's
Manual on the Vintage and Production, Care and Handling of Wines,
Liquors, Etc. - A Handbook of Information for Home, Club, or Hotel:
Recipes for Fancy Mixed Drinks and When and How to Serve. In this
facsimile reprint, you'll find early versions of such classics as
the Absinthe Drip and the Mint Julep, as well as less-common
drinks, including Gin and Molasses and the Hot Brandy Sling. Try
them all - you'll be sure to find a new favorite recipe within
these pages. Jack's Manual is part of the Classic Cocktail Guides
and Retro Bartender Books series published by Kalevala Books.
Cocktails and Shooters with Dirty Names contains over 300 cocktail
and shooter recipes with dirty and vulgar names. It makes a great
resource for parties and other social events where proper etiquette
is not important. We have all either tried or have at least heard
of cocktails and shooters that have dirty, vulgar, and obscene
names. This book was written to provide you with over 300 recipes
to make at home, surprise your friends with, or know what you are
ordering the next time you're out on the town. Some of the more
common cocktails with fairly tame names are included as well as
some of the much more obscene named drinks. This is definitely one
of those books that you should keep away from children and if you
are offended by vulgar words, this book is not for you.
Everybody who likes Curry should invest in a little pamphlet by
"Daniel Santiagoe, son of Francis Daniel, butler and fiddler, of
Colombo, Ceylon, and the Ceylon Court, Royal Jubilee Exhibition,
Liverpool."
FOR a long time the public have been in want of a work on the art
of Distillation and Rectification, couched in such language that
every one could appreciate it; and of such size and value that the
price, and the time required to read it, would prove the least
objectionable. From the best information I can gain, no work has
appeared on this subject for many years. Owing to this fact, most
of the improvements which have been made in the art have proved of
little use to the larger class; and thus things have almost
remained stationary with regard to this very important matter,
particularly in this country; which is, indeed, greatly to be
lamented, as we are in possession of every thing, in the way of
fruits, vegetables, etc., which have hitherto been used in
distillation. I trust that in the following pages the reader will
find every thing that the present state of science calls for, and
that the suggestions may prove of great practical advantage; which
I think they will do, as every thing is given in the shortest and
plainest manner. It is almost needless to say that I have consulted
every authority that I could find, for the purpose of making this a
complete work; they are, however, too numerous to mention here, and
would be, moreover, of no benefit to the reader. With these few
prefatory remarks, the book is submitted to the public.
