ICD-10-CM for Physicians. Designed by coders for coders, this
full-color manual ensures you learn the most accurate billing and
reimbursement codes for medical services provided in physicians'
offices and outpatient settings. As coders need extensive knowledge
to code with ICD-10-CM - and to choose from the thousands of
possible codes - this edition makes it easier with colorful anatomy
plates (including Netter's Anatomy illustrations) to help you
understand anatomy and how it can affect your code choices. In
addition, it comes with durable spiral binding and includes a
companion website with the latest coding updates At-a-glance Guide
to the 2023 ICD-10-CM Updates in the front of the book lists all
new, revised, and deleted codes, providing quick lookup of the
coding changes. Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting
(OGCRs) are listed in full in the Introduction, at the beginning of
each chapter, and integrated within the code set, providing easier
reference to coding rules when they are needed most. Unique!
Full-color anatomy plates (including Netter's Anatomy art) are
included in a separate section for easy reference and
cross-referenced within the Tabular List of Diseases and Injuries,
to help users understand anatomy and how it may affect choosing
codes. Full-color design includes consistent color-coded symbols
and text, providing easier access to codes and coding information.
American Hospital Association's Coding Clinic (R) citations include
official ICD-10-CM coding advice relating to specific codes and
their usage. More than 190 illustrations provide visual orientation
and enhance understanding of specific coding situations. Items are
included throughout the Tabular List to ensure accurate coding,
providing additional information on common diseases and conditions.
Additional elements within specific codes define terms and add
coding instructions relating to difficult terminology, diseases and
conditions, or coding in a specific category. Symbols and
highlights draw attention to codes that may require special
consideration before coding, including: New, revised, and deleted
Unacceptable Principle Diagnosis Codes that call for the use of
additional character(s) Includes, Excludes 1 and Excludes 2 Use
Additional Unspecified Code First and Code Also Placeholder X
symbol reminds you to assign placeholder X for codes less than 6
characters that require a 7th character. Manifestation code symbol
identifies conditions for which it is important to record both the
etiology and the symptom of the disease. HCC symbol indicates
diagnoses in the Tabular List associated with Hierarchical
Condition Categories. Age and Sex edits from the Definition of
Medicare Code Edits help to ensure accuracy by denoting codes that
are used only with patients of a specific age or sex. NEW! Updated
2023 Official Code set reflects the latest ICD-10 codes needed for
diagnosis coding.

An eye-opening investigation into ancestry and origins in the Middle
East that synthesizes thousands of years of genetic history in the
region to question what it means to be indigenous to any land
“Ancestors transcends geography to launch an eye-opening inquiry into
the relationship of genetics and identity. It’s a transformational read
for us all.”—Jason Roberts, author of Every Living Thing and A Sense of
the World
In recent years, genetic testing has become easily available to
consumers across the globe, making it relatively simple to find out
where your ancestors came from. But what do these test results actually
tell us about ourselves?
In Ancestors, Pierre Zalloua, a leading authority on population
genetics, argues that these test results have led to a dangerous
oversimplification of what one’s genetic heritage means. Genetic
ancestry has become conflated with anthropological categories such as
“origin,” “ethnicity,” and even “race” in spite of the complexities
that underlie these concepts. And nowhere is this interplay more
important and more controversial, Zalloua writes, than in the Levant—an
ancient region known as one of the cradles of civilization and that now
includes Palestine, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, and parts of Turkey.
Born in Lebanon, Zalloua grew up surrounded by people for whom the
question of identity was a matter of life or death. Building on years
of research, he tells a rich and compelling history of the Levant
through the framework of genetics that spans from one hundred thousand
years ago, when humans first left Africa, to the twenty-first century
and modern nation-states.
A timely, paradigm-shifting investigation into ancestry and origins in
the Middle East, Ancestors ultimately reframes what it means to be
indigenous to any land—urging us to reshape how we think about home,
belonging, and where culture really comes from.

Academic geriatnclans are always looking for an improved objective,
quantifiable measure of biological ageing in humans to replace that
unphysiological and arbitrary scale 'years survived'. The MCQ may
be the nearest we have come yet to achieving this Holy Grail. An
individual's facility with the setting and answering of MCQs
separates the medical genera tions more surely than years. I am
only grateful I was educated in a less rigorous but perhaps more
'gentlemanly' era. If one appeared before an examiner neatly
dressed with clean finger nails and the examination scripts were
literate essays written in fountain pen then you were in - or so it
seemed. For the past 20 years we have been evolving towards much
more objective and rigorous assessment of knowledge and
understanding of medicine of both undergraduate and postgraduate
students. This process has been exemplified by the evolution of
what is now the seemingly ubiquitous MCQ. When initially presented
as objective and quantifiable measures of clinical knowledge MCQs
were the subject of scorn - how could they assess the art of
medicine - the grey areas of clinical decision making? However they
very rapidly overcame this antediluvian scepticism and I believe
they have had an effect well beyond the limited area of competence
measurement. They have induced or at the very least contributed to
a shift towards a more rigorous, dare one say more scientific,
approach to clinical medicine.
