The luxurious volume En Passant par la Demeure is a vivid
photographic tour of the noted French interior designer Jean-Loup
Daraux's country home. Located in the south of France, in the
Camargue region, the house is a stunning showcase of French country
interior design. For Daraux, the words 'en passant' are not unlike
a manifesto. He revels in creating relatively simple yet elegant
spaces which generate the impression that everything was designed,
and rendered in passing, or as he says, 'as if by magic'. The book
is divided into five sections; the first four correspond to the
seasons of the year. While following a path through the house, and
through the seasons, Daraux comments on diverse subjects helping
the reader to discover and appreciate all the fascinating aspects
of his home. Along the way he reveals a few secrets that helped him
design the house in a rich French country style. The fifth section
of the book, entitled 'En passant par le chantier', includes

"The Iter Italicum by P.O. Kristeller constitutes the most
comprehensive finding list available of previously uncatalogued or
incompletely catalogued Renaissance humanistic manuscripts found in

Academic Publischers in six volumes between 1963 and 1992, it is an

study of the Renaissance and Later Scholasticism and the
identification of sources, and as such provides the starting point
for any research in the field.
This is a narrative of the life experience of an ordinary person
who grew up in the rural areas of Transkei. After learning about
and understanding life according to a purely African world view, he
suffered a cultural shock when he came into contact with the
contradictions of urban life which imposed Western-style
obligations on African people. Ndima's school and university
experiences brought home the realisation that African values were
treated with contempt, as the dominant Western culture was
continuing to bolster white supremacy. After matric, Ndima worked
as a clerk in Port St John's and became involved in solving a
number of labour disputes. While studying law he was subjected to
the animosity his lecturers displayed towards black students. After
graduation, Ndima worked as a prosecutor at the Mqanduli district
court and later became a magistrate in various districts of the
Transkei. As presiding officer, he discovered the wealth of
diversity in the various cultural groupings in the territory and
learnt to understand the feelings of detained, arrested, accused,
convicted and imprisoned people and their relatives, and the impact
of these events on their home life and on their personalities. The
author's personal history and his experience gained as a magistrate
form the basis for the insights that directed him in handling the
cases over which he presided.

New and comprehensive electronic reference work on The Dead Sea
Scrolls
Prepared by the Foundation for Ancient Research and Mormon Studies,
Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah
The Dead Sea Scrolls (DSS) probably represent the most significant
manuscript discovery in recent history. These ancient texts have
revolutionized the field of biblical and Judaic studies, and they
have become an indispensable source for scholars and students
alike.
Although most of the texts have been published in some form or
other, scholars have now only begun to grasp the true meaning and
relevance of the scrolls for our understanding of ancient Judaism,
the transmission of the biblical texts, and the origins of
Christianity.
This new DSS CD-ROM is composed of a comprehensive, fully indexed,
and cross-linked collection of non-biblical DSS texts, both in
Hebrew and English translation, as well as a selection of
high-resolution digitized images of Dead Sea Scrolls fragments. In
addition, the CD-ROM contains relevant reference material for
scholarly work on The Dead Sea Scrolls and related literature.
Anyone using the CD-ROM will be able to access texts, images and
reference materials quickly and efficiently. The combination of a
powerful text search engine and sophisticated image-manipulating
software will enable scholars and students unparalleled research
possibilities.
The powerful search capabilities of the WordCruncher. software will
allow users to find any or all occurrences of words and phrases in
any or all texts. The software makes full accommodation of the
features of the Hebrew language, by allowing users to search for
Hebrew words according to their root forms.

The Crace family were the most important firm of interior
decorators working in Britain in the 19th century. They earned this
title by the sheer number and importance of their commissions,
working for every British monarch from George III to Queen Victoria
and on a range of buildings that includes royal palaces, Leeds Town
Hall and the Great Exhibition building of 1862. This book examines
the history of the Craces, from their humble origins as coach
decorators to interior decorators of the Royal Pavilion, Buckingham
Palace and Windsor Castle. The text also analyzes the artistic
styles of the period and discusses the conservative nature of the
Craces' work.
Asian livingoften a palette of centuries-old building techniquesis
becoming more and more a by-product of dense urbanity, with
high-rise apartments and large populations living close together in
small spaces and Western-accented fast-paced lifestyles. The
apartments presented in this dense and colorfully photographed
volume represent current trends in design, which tend to draw
inspiration from the past while embracing the future. From
vestibules to bedrooms, lighting options to decorative accessories,
the book offers visits to rounded living rooms, kitchens that have
evolved from places of lonely isolation to communal spaces in the
home, bedrooms as sanctuaries with breathtaking views of the city
below, and such various "openings" as balconies with natural vistas
and window seats overlooking the urban landscape.
