Lady Anne (1989) is one of Krog’s most acclaimed poetry
collections. In an attempt to make sense of her own existence, Krog
compares her own life in the midst of a world of racial injustice
to that of the life and times of Lady Anne Barnard, of Scottish
descent, during her stay in the Cape Colony in the late
eighteenth century. Gradually the two voices intertwine and merge,
highlighting the complexity of marriage but ultimately also that of
a colonial legacy – still relevant 28 years later.
A further volume of poems and songs about the darker and lighter
sides of life, with illustrations by the author.
“’n Voelboek”, noem die bekroonde digter Johan Marais sy vyfde
bundel. By die natuurliefhebber roep dit dadelik assosiasies van ’n
naslaanboek op. En dan, op die opdragblad, asof die digter sy leser
doelbewus met hierdie assosiasie wou mislei, waarsku hy in Walt
Whitman se woorde: "You must not […] be too precise or scientific
about birds and trees and flowers […]." Die gedigte bly egter
gemoeid met die wetenskaplike benadering tot voels, en hierdie spel
van teenstelling en gelykmaking word deur die hele bundel
voortgesit.
This Is How You Disappear is Jeremy Reed's most autobiographical
book to date, and one in which he celebrates the dead and missing
friends who were the formative and enduring influences on his life
as a poet. Using the elegy to imaginatively recreate the often
extraordinary individual characteristics of his subjects, Reed's
personal book of the dead is one that burns with his customary
dynamic for dazzling imagery, glows with compassion for the
suffering, and sparkles with a visual retrieval of detail so acute
it hurts. With the title taken from the first line of a Scott
Walker song, 'Rawhide', This Is How You Disappear is elegiac poetry
at its most brilliant.
Rolf LAnge was Schwabisch, born in southern Germany on 27th April
1939. He trained as a master in Patisserie in Germany and moved to
Oxford, England as a young man to work, married and had two
daughters, Karin and Juliette. He was an adventurer, raconteur,
teller of rude jokes, iconoclast, humanist, student of European
Studies, accordionist, yachtmaster and pilot, a lover and a
warrior. Over forty-five years he divorced, remarried, taught
English in Greece, qualified for university entrance through Open
University European Studies, and made wine on the Rhine. He
explored America and shot the rapids of the Rio Grande in New
Mexico, sailed the Mediterranean and lived on his catamaran for ten
years with his wife Carol. They sailed to Spain and bought a house
in the Alpujarra mountains of Andalucia. He loved trees and planted
pomegranate, almond, fig, palm, orange, grapefruit, lemon, quince,
lime, avocado, apple, cherry, pear, nispero, chirimoya and olive.
Rolf had a boundless zest for life. His passion was flying and he
was in process of renewing his pilot's licence when he died
suddenly in his beloved village of Darrical, Andalucia, on 1st
March 2016. He always said that when his time came, he would just
fly his plane into a mountain. He found his mountain that night.
Rolf was deeply moved by the plight of homeless people. Proceeds
from sales of this book will go to the Oxford Community Soup
Kitchen run by Ma Smith in Oxford, England, where he played his
accordion for the people Christmas 2015.
Nursing staff throughout the world have endured an unprecedented
increase in distress, anxiety and depression. Physical and mental
health have come under attack from anxiety, depression, elevated
blood pressure and increased stress hormone production. More than
ever, the importance and urgency of initiatives which promote
nurses' and midwives' wellbeing should be emphasised. Pocket
Poetry: Poems for Nurses and Midwives is a companion of poems
intended to provide encouragement and consolation to those on the
frontline of our care sector. The poems themselves explore the
meaning of nursing, midwifery and compassion in order to promote
new nurses' and midwives' self-care and wellbeing. The poems in
this selection demonstrate the empathy and benevolence crucial to
the profession, and include works on the relationship between nurse
and patient, as well as the meaning and fulfilment of nursing for
those who have chosen that career.
In this light-hearted collection of poetry, Colin McAllister muses
on subjects as wide-ranging as his cruise around South America, his
enthusiasm for golf, American politics and his first tentative
steps into the world of computer technology.Drawing on the dialect
of his native Scotland and experimenting with limerick and sonnet
forms, But Does It Scan? is a vibrant insight into the poet's
thoughts on his experiences of modern-day life.

Poetry is by its nature very personal and often reveals more about
the poet than any other medium can. Unlike prose, it is not so
closely bound to the rules of language and grammar and can take
wings and fly where the muse takes it. My poetry is largely of an
autobiographical nature which includes events, people, places in
fact anything that has impinged upon my life. My short stories on
the other hand can be read as straightforward fiction although
mostly they have a basis in fact. As for any wise sayings - some
are mine - others come from my father and other wise people. Jokes,
however, are few and depend largely on your sense of humour.
This little collection of poems, stories, outbursts and musings is
put forward as an homage to Jerome K. Jerome. His book, Idle
Thoughts of an Idle Fellow, published in 1886, is like mine, a
series of humorous articles on various subjects.

This book is a further collection of poems written by Arthur
Dunkley. In this volume the emphasis is on the genre of
'Veldsinger' poetry, originally introduced in his previously
published poetry collection called 'Seventy'. Poetic eulogy of the
landscape of any nation occurs all over the world, in both writing
and song. In this case the landscape and life of southern Africa is
the subject material, the word 'veld' being widely used for much of
the wild, open habitat of many of the countries in this region.
There are plenty of 'other' kinds of poems in the collection to
give the anthology a breadth of subject material and interest.
