In the process of writing two short collections of light hearted
material, (one published and one yet to be published), the author
became acutely awarethat he could not continue forward without
addressing what he considered to be the most important issues of
human existence. All of us have askedourselves the questions, "What
is the meaning of life" and "Why am I here"? Some have rejected the
idea of an eternal soul, some are undecided, whileothers are
largely unconcerned, but the author has chosen to embrace the
concept and run with it. He believes there is a single overriding
mission forevery individual alive today. The sole purpose of this
life is to prepare for the next one, and every person has been
given the ability to control hisown destiny. When compared to
eternity, our lives are like a single knot in a rope that stretches
around the world. From the foundation of the earth, a plan has been
in place to allow humanity to share the wonders of eternity with
the Creator of all things. Those who follow that plan will
berewarded accordingly, while those who prefer to separate
themselves from the influence of a Higher Power, will be granted
their wish in eternity. Ifthis book convinces one person to follow
the plan that leads to redemption, then it will have been well
worth the effort.
COURAGE FOR THE JOURNEY assembles a collection of wisdom to ignite
courage, hope, and strength in those caught in the inevitable
storms of life. In his 1965 masterpiece I Had Trouble in Getting to
Solla Sollew, Dr. Seuss observed, And I learned there are troubles
of more than one kind. Some come from ahead and some come from
behind. Adversities arise in all shapes and sizes. The death of a
loved one, divorce, business failure, job loss, health issues, and
natural disasters are only but a few examples. None of us is immune
from the life events that can shake or even obliterate our
foundations. Personal disasters leave us dazed and shell-shocked.
We find ourselves standing in the rubble of our lives, wondering
how to move forward and what to do next. Winston Churchill
asserted, If you are going through Hell, keep going This is sage
advice for anyone in distress. The question is how, when you have
totally lost direction, do you keep going? When fear,
discouragement, failure, loss, and regret have taken firm root in
the gardens of our heart, mind, and soul, how do you vanquish them?
During adversity, attitude will always dictate outcome. The key to
overcoming any obstacle is to tune out the negative noise of the
storm and society in general. The positive emotions of courage,
faith, hope, perseverance, and peace contain far greater power than
negative emotions. COURAGE FOR THE JOURNEY explores strategies for:
Finding courage and faith in place of fear Finding hope and
perseverance in place of discouragement Finding opportunity and
choice in place of failure Finding clarity and accepting change in
place of loss Finding recovery, reinvention, and peace in place of
regret

Author Jack Kovnas does not tell you how to pray as much as he
shows you through his own teaching examples of actual prayer
events.
With deep humility, he candidly reveals how sinfully and
shamefully he lived the beginning stages of his Christian
life-without prayer-but then turned completely around as he
uncovered genuine happiness "with" prayer.
Inside this book you will find a declaration by somebody who
learned the value of praying and trusting God-who willingly gave up
house and possessions, and then watched in amazement as they
returned.
This informative prayer-ride journey is a testimony to what God
can and will do for any and all of us. As Jack humbly and assuredly
attests-even though it is his own true life story, every sincere,
caring word on each and every page is not about him-it is about
"you" ""Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not upon
thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He
shall direct thy paths.""
Proverbs 3:5-6 (KJV)
Today, 1 in 110 children will exhibit signs and receive a diagnosis
of autism. Many parents will live in confusion, seeing the early
signs but not understanding them. They will experience many varying
emotions ranging from denial to panic to desperation. By
understanding the early signs and seeing God's hand in the
circumstances of dealing with this disability, parents will begin
to approach the care of their children with autism from a position
of hope. This book chronicles the journey of one mother who has
traveled down the path of life with a child with autism. It
contains strategies, techniques, and curricular suggestions that
proved helpful to her child. In addition, it details a journey of
faith and hope that ends in a new way of valuing the lives of our
individuals with special needs. May it bring hope and help to
others who have entered upon this unique journey.
Becca, now in her thirties, is desperate to find comfort and sleep
as she moves to a small town once again. There she hopes to find
what has been missing from her life since she left her small home
town and moved to the city. Having years without peace and the
ability to sleep, her days are filled with emptiness and
loneliness. Drained from the struggle of life, and the decision to
leave her family and friends years ago, she embarks down a road of
memories and voices from her past. In a single night she must
re-live all the painful memories and mistakes she has made. Alone,
in the dark, in her own bedroom, she is faced with answering the
question she has avoided all her life. In the end, after a night
that seems as if it will never end, somehow what she had overlooked
all along becomes so real that she finds herself yielding to what
she knows is the only thing that can bring her peace - and finding
grace that brings her restoration she never dreamed possible.
Sand between my toes, the salt air wrapping around me like a
warm, summer blanket, the crashing of waves, and the meeting of sky
and water. The beach is where I see the handiwork of God. As a
young child, it was there that I wished that I could walk on the
water as Jesus and Peter had in Matthew 14. It was there that I
learned of faith, the faith that requires you to not only step out
of the boat but also to focus on Jesus and learn to walk toward Him
daily. It is not enough to just get out of our comfort zones, but
now we need to learn to grow and walk toward Him constantly. The
Faith to Walk on Water takes a look at why standing still in our
faith is no longer an option, how doubt and fear are overcome by
Jesus. He does not watch from a distance, but He is always there
holding out His hand for us to take hold. So what are you waiting
for? Take that step, and walk on the water
My intention in writing this book is to share the intimacies of my
heart, leading up to a personal, powerful, and life-changing
experience of God's unconditional love. First for the clergy and
teachers of faith, this book is given to you for the benefit of
those who are in your care and second yet foremost, for those who
have been surpressing pain within their own and often times
repressed experience. My hope is that in sharing my struggle to let
God be God, and do what God does best, namely to love those who
will come to Him with all of their brokenness and need, that you
too may come closer to peace in your own life. Can you find
identity in one of these groups? * Those who have been hurt by fear
and insecurity based upon a harshly taught understanding of God's
law without real knowledge of His love;* Those having sadly
experienced divorce and the guilt coming from that failure with its
painful confusion, what really happened;* Catholic women practicing
what is termed by the Catholic Church as as artificial birth
control and its affect on their peace of mind;* Those troubled by
the Catholic Church's requirement of integral sacramental
confession as the only ordinary means of receiving forgivness for
sin;* Protestants and Evangelicals counting on Baptism alone, apart
from any growth in personal righteousness, as affecting their
eternal reality.Did you find yourself listed above? Today there are
many who are under spiritual oppression and needlessly suffering
separation from real knowledge of God's unconditional love for
them. The question everyone needs to answer is this, can I receive
God's mercy and love and can I return that love to Him? This
capacity is evidence of and at the very heart of salvation
In the tradition of parents telling their children stories from the
Bible, this new edition of a delightful book presents a continuous
narrative of the Scriptures that brings the great heroes and events
from the Bible to life. It is unabridged and features 168 stories
from the Old and New Testaments, copious BW illustrations, a
presentation page and a retouched version of the 1904 cover. Since
it was written in 1904 by an American Methodist Episcopal
Clergyman, Jesse Lyman Hurlbut, over 4 million copies have been
distributed.
Under any description of the start of my life, the odds were
against me. With the untimely death of my mother at age 31 in
September and the suicide of my father on the following Christmas
Day, I was orphaned at the age of two along with six siblings.
Through the efforts of a Methodist pastor, we were placed in the
Methodist Orphans Home in Waco, Texas on January 21, 1937. This is
the story of my life and how I was able to overcome those gigantic
odds. Who would believe that the two-year-old orphan boy would
later serve for the last twenty-five years of his career as the
President/CEO of the agency that rescued him and his six siblings?
The journey from orphan boy to President took many twists and
turns. Stages on this journey included growing up in an unusual
setting of 400 children, pursuit of a solid education, life as a
church pastor, administrator of three child care agencies,
establishing a successful family, and a return as President to
where it all started. This journey unfolds through many unusual
stories and experiences ranging from humorous events to dealing
with some very important and traumatic situations. History and
special traditions play an important role at Methodist Home. I was
a student at the time of the 50th anniversary, an employee at the
75th anniversary and President/CEO at the 100th anniversary. A
cherished memory of the 100th anniversary was the honor of hosting
Mrs. Barbara Bush as our guest speaker. I recall sitting in our den
at home with my wife and our children reflecting on the occasion
and saying, "Only in America can an East Texas farm girl and an
orphan boy entertain the president's wife." The most unique
experience of my entire life was my role in avery significant
historical event that I have written about as "The Branch Davidian
Incident." This event captured the news world-wide February 28
through the end of April in 1993. My involvement of taking the lead
in caring for the 21 children released from the Davidian compound
gave me the opportunity of being on the inside of many activities
unknown to even the most interested in this event. This part of my
story will reveal the inner workings of caring for the children,
relationships with law enforcement at all levels, and working with
the local, national, and international news media. Another
traumatic experience I had dealt with what became known as "Waco's
Triple Murders." Two of the three young people murdered were former
Methodist Home students.
The book chronicles the life story of a woman pioneer in the
electrical trade. It begins with the early childhood experiences
that formed her approach to life. The empowerment of feminism was a
natural result of her changed life that lead her into teaching,
nursing, farming and the formation of her own electrical
contracting company. Another aspect in the book is her journey from
realism to faith. The dynamic tension between both of these themes
and the resolution of them is the substory in this very interesting
memoir.
When the Honeymoon is over Kelly comes home from a trip only to be
blindsided by a note left on the coffee table from her husband
saying he is no longer interested in being married to her. She
fights the emotional roller coaster most relationships experience.
Jada loves her life, her husband, and daughter but craves the
attention from her man to give her the business like he use to when
they first said I do however, her boss Cole don't mind giving her
the attention she desires putting everything she believes in at
risk. Madison hides behind her I can do bad by myself attitude by
pushing the one man she loved out of her life only to do it again
while going to school raising her only son and finding herself
truly alone and broken. Kobe is a man, who believes in working hard
and providing for his family, but his wife is a selfish She Devil
that provides him grief on daily basis, his daughter is the only
reason he remains in this mess of a marriage. He simply doesn't
know how much more he can take. Jalen loves Reagan and couldn't ask
for a better woman, she's everything a black man could ever want
fine, smart, and supportive but why he didn't want to put a ring on
it was something he had to figure out for himself. Cory the super
model is finding himself picking up the pieces of his life after
starting over from a relationship that went sour and could affect
his future dramatically. Honeymoon happy and peacock proud is how
this all begin but when the honeymoon is over and the dust settle
and reality comes in like a flood will they remain or face the most
challenging situations life throws their way.
