Cheryl Berger
R661 Discovery Miles 6 610 Ships in 12 - 19 working days

'Tis the season to be jolly ... but not always. Some holiday hearts are a stark contradiction to the merriment the season brings. What began in 1991 as Cheryl Berger's personal gift to family and friends has grown into the collection you now hold in your hands. These inspirational writings have been included in her family's annual Christmas cards with the hope of bringing the recipients a little holiday cheer.

Tidings of Comfort and Joy contains more than just seasonal entries, however. Some have to do with situations, circumstances, as well as the unexpected, experienced in everyday life. Bible verses have been woven like a scarlet thread throughout each piece. Some pieces are personal, and some were written for others. All were written with the purpose of encouraging hearts with the hope found in Christ.

Realizing the Lord speaks to her heart through her writing, many hours have been spent seeking God for a word in due season. With a heart for hurting women, Cheryl uses words to minister hope and peace to wounded and broken hearts. If you listen carefully, you can hear songs of hope flowing throughout each piece. It is her prayer that the Lord will use the imagery penned in this collection to fill your heart with tidings of comfort and joy.

R735 Discovery Miles 7 350 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Under any description of the start of my life, the odds were against me. With the untimely death of my mother at age 31 in September and the suicide of my father on the following Christmas Day, I was orphaned at the age of two along with six siblings. Through the efforts of a Methodist pastor, we were placed in the Methodist Orphans Home in Waco, Texas on January 21, 1937. This is the story of my life and how I was able to overcome those gigantic odds. Who would believe that the two-year-old orphan boy would later serve for the last twenty-five years of his career as the President/CEO of the agency that rescued him and his six siblings? The journey from orphan boy to President took many twists and turns. Stages on this journey included growing up in an unusual setting of 400 children, pursuit of a solid education, life as a church pastor, administrator of three child care agencies, establishing a successful family, and a return as President to where it all started. This journey unfolds through many unusual stories and experiences ranging from humorous events to dealing with some very important and traumatic situations. History and special traditions play an important role at Methodist Home. I was a student at the time of the 50th anniversary, an employee at the 75th anniversary and President/CEO at the 100th anniversary. A cherished memory of the 100th anniversary was the honor of hosting Mrs. Barbara Bush as our guest speaker. I recall sitting in our den at home with my wife and our children reflecting on the occasion and saying, "Only in America can an East Texas farm girl and an orphan boy entertain the president's wife." The most unique experience of my entire life was my role in avery significant historical event that I have written about as "The Branch Davidian Incident." This event captured the news world-wide February 28 through the end of April in 1993. My involvement of taking the lead in caring for the 21 children released from the Davidian compound gave me the opportunity of being on the inside of many activities unknown to even the most interested in this event. This part of my story will reveal the inner workings of caring for the children, relationships with law enforcement at all levels, and working with the local, national, and international news media. Another traumatic experience I had dealt with what became known as "Waco's Triple Murders." Two of the three young people murdered were former Methodist Home students.

Your Mind is a Treasure! (Hardcover): Imoukhuede Moses Idehai Your Mind is a Treasure! (Hardcover)
Imoukhuede Moses Idehai
R725 Discovery Miles 7 250 Ships in 12 - 19 working days

Embedded in the soul and renowned for its versatility, the mind interfaces between the spirit and the body and, in the process, determines the outcome of the twosome. It operates optimally on divinely gifted keys, which unlocks its abounding treasures. However, by reason of its abuse, these keys can be lost, misplaced, or stolen. The ensuing consequences are misery, chaos, and finally, death. Its discovery and right application births life anew and leads to the recovery for divine exploits in congruence with life's purpose. Ostensibly written using a very practical approach, Your Mind Is a Treasure captures the place of the mind in the quest for self-discovery and workability in the universal space. It targets using the instrumentality of the mind to achieve quintessential excellence based on biblical principles. Also, it expounds on the potency of the mind and its pivotal essence in the attainment and sustenance of good success in life. It is a book that speaks to your mind.

A History of East Orrington Congregational Church, Orrington, Maine - Time + Trust + Thankfulness (Hardcover): David H. Lester A History of East Orrington Congregational Church, Orrington, Maine - Time + Trust + Thankfulness (Hardcover)
David H. Lester
R801 Discovery Miles 8 010 Ships in 12 - 19 working days

Nestled along the shore of the Penobscot River, Orrington, Maine became the home of a small group of worshippers called by God to organize into a Congregational Church in 1833. From that humble beginning and being declared destitute in 1837, this church grew to become the largest church in the Congregational Christian Council of Maine. Drawing on original documents and interviews, this history of the East Orrington Congregational Church delivers a well-researched, fascinating look at the struggles and triumphs of this church and her congregation. The Rev. Dr. David H. Lester traces the church's original small membership under the guidance of Rev. Cyril Pearl in 1833 through its struggle to keep the doors open in the mid-1970s to its current status as one of the biggest congregational churches in the area. Through a true commitment to time, trust, and thankfulness, this group of dedicated Christians held fast to the resolve to be the Body of Christ outside the walls of the meeting house. A History of East Orrington Congregational Church, Orrington, Maine serves as a worthy testament to their unwavering faith in God and his direction for their ministry.

Between Religion and Reason (Part II) - The Position against Contradiction between Reason and Revelation in Contemporary Jewish Thought from Eliezer Goldman to Jonathan Sacks (Hardcover)
Ephraim Chamiel
R3,271 Discovery Miles 32 710 Ships in 12 - 19 working days

This book is dedicated to an analysis of the writings of modern religious Jewish thinkers who adopted a neo-fundamentalist, illusionary, apologetic approach, opposing the notion that there may sometimes be a contradiction between reason and revelation. The book deals with the thought of Eliezer Goldman, Norman Lamm, David Hartman, Aharon Lichtenstein, Jonathan Sacks, and Michael Abraham. According to these thinkers, it is possible to resolve all of the difficulties that arise from the encounter between religion and science, between reason and revelation, between the morality of halakhah and Western morality, between academic scholarship and tradition, and between scientific discoveries and statements found in the Torah. This position runs counter to the stance of other Jewish thinkers who espouse a different, more daring approach. According to the latter view, irresolvable contradictions between reason and faith sometimes face the modern Jewish believer, who must reconcile himself to these two conflicting truths and learn to live with them. This dialectic position was discussed in Between Religion and Reason, Part I (Academic Studies Press, 2020). The present volume, Part II, completes the discussion of this topic. This book concludes a trilogy of works by the author dealing with modern Jewish thought that attempts to integrate tradition and modernity. The first in the series was The Middle Way (Academic Studies Press, 2014), followed by The Dual Truth (Academic Studies Press, 2018).

Most people who heard of my story referred to it as near-death experience. However there was no out-of-body perception involved. I was just somewhere, but not in this world. It 's like being all eyes and heart for I saw, and felt, but did not exist - bodily For some who might have similar experiences, this might be a time of sharing a story. Mysterious. Mystical. Yet, very hopeful While trying to understand what happened, I studied the supernatural experiences of Saints, and others. It was quite an eye-opener for a regular Catholic who is suddenly faced with a new, life-changing outlook. Life became more challenging, but also spiritually rewarding.

In Moments Like These Volume Three (Hardcover): Jenny Pfister In Moments Like These Volume Three (Hardcover)
Jenny Pfister
R647 Discovery Miles 6 470 Ships in 12 - 19 working days

We have many words that can describe our seasons of life. These words can lead to God's promises of love, mercy, and compassion. The Father wants to meet with you, refresh you, and encourage you...one word at a time. Jenny invites you to remember to live each day in the Light of God's faithfulness as she equips you with scriptures to remind you that, In Christ, every moment is a God moment. This devotional book is designed to be a study tool adaptable for group study, Sunday School lessons, devotions, or personal quiet times with the Lord. JENNY PFISTER is a powerful communicator, Bible teacher, and speaker whom God has anointed and used in a mighty way to touch the lives of countless women and men who are seeking the Lord. Gifted and lead by the Holy Spirit, Jenny thrives on teaching the Word of God through weekly interdenominational women's Bible studies and a weekly TV series called One Brushstroke at a Time. She also leads and teaches at women's retreats and conferences, offers spiritual direction and counsel to many, and regularly preaches and leads worship services at her home church, Breath of God Worship Ministry in Buckhannon, West Virginia. A native of Baltimore, Maryland, Jenny felt overwhelming love for Jesus at an early age, and sensed God calling her to her first teaching ministry at the age of 22 at The Whitehouse Fellowship, a singles ministry at Timonium Presbyterian Church. At the same time, while teaching music at a private Jewish school in Owings Mills, Maryland, Jenny fell in love with the Old Testament. Layer upon layer, it exploded with life and relevance and became the canvas on which the Lord would paint a perfect picture of unity, truth, and fulfillment of the Old and New Testaments. The Lord was gradually birthing in Jenny the ministry that she would later establish, Brushstroke Ministries. After moving to West Virginia to serve in the Southern Baptist Convention as the state's keyboard and piano specialist, Jenny began to conduct women's Bible studies in homes and churches. In February 2001, she stepped out in faith and founded Brushstroke Ministries, a three-fold ministry of worship, prayer, and study of the Word of God for women of all denominations. Her fervent passion for the Word, along with her spiritual gifting and keen ear for the Lord's direction, has been Jenny's motivation for writing this series of devotional books. She paints a picture with her words, one brushstroke at a time, capturing the beauty of the Lord and His unfailing love for us. Those associated with this blessed ministry pray that as you read these devotionals, you will be touched by His Peace and find comfort in His Presence. To Him be all the glory

Rita Blessings
R650 Discovery Miles 6 500 Ships in 12 - 19 working days

In my early years of life, I grew up in an abusive home. My father was a good man to me when he was not drunk, but when he got drunk he would become someone else. I will describe him as Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. He did not abuse me but he abused my mother numerous times. My mother finally decided to leave him and she took my youngest brother, sister and I and we all moved to Miami, Florida in 1973. I did not understand at the time why she made the move but as I got older, I understood. Many things happened in my family during our life here in Miami. As I got older, I began to seek God for answers to many of my questions about why bad things happened to my family. It was many years later when I saw my father again, but he was a different man. I knew he was different - not because of something he did but because of something that was allowed to happen to him.
