The 1960s were a particularly turbulent period, and the events of those years continue to interest and influence American society. This bibliography records and documents the most significant happenings of that decade. The volume spans the years between 1960 and the resignation of President Nixon in 1974. It includes citations for more than 1300 books related to that period. Some of the books were written during the 1960s and directly influenced people of that time. Others were written afterward, and analyze and interpret the events of the decade. The entries are arranged in topical chapters, and each citation is accompanied by a descriptive and evaluative annotation. The volume begins with an introduction that overviews and discusses the major events and trends of the time. The 17 topical chapters that follow treat virtually every aspect of life in the 1960s. The first few chapters include general works on the underlying social, political, and economic conditions that served to define the decade. Other chapters discuss works on the presidencies, social protests, the impact of the Vietnam war, the cultural revolution, and trends in art, music, literature, and religion. The bibliography concludes with author, title, and subject indexes that add to its value as a reference tool.
This bibliography pulls together a scattered literature of popular periodical articles, monographs, and sources from the legal press to create a picture of the treatment of the homosexual in both contemporary and past societies. Subject coverage has been limited to eight areas of society in which homophobic attitudes have been frequently expressed: the military, child custody, adoption and foster care, religion, censorship, employment, and police-community relations. This arrangement facilitates access to information on the desired topics. Sources cited in this work are those which are most accessible. Annotations expand the scope of entries and are cross-referenced. Both legal and alternative press sources are included for greater scope. A pioneering work, The Homosexual and Society opens up a subfield of research in the social sciences that has been neglected and merits wider consideration. This bibliography is suitable for college and research libraries, state historical associations, public libraries of all sizes, law libraries and specialized research facilities in the social sciences.
This is the first ever index of contributions to common law Festschriften and fills a serious bibliographic gap in the literature of the common law. The German word Festschrift is now the universally accepted term in the academy for a published collection of legal essays written by several authors to honour a distinguished jurist or to mark a significant legal event. The number of Festschriften honouring common lawyers has increased enormously in the last thirty years. Until now, the numerous scholarly contributions to these volumes have not been adequately indexed. This Index fills that bibliographic gap. The entries included in this work refer to some 296 common law Festschriften indexed by author, subject keyword, editor, title, honorand and date. It therefore includes over 5,000 chapter entries. In addition, there are more than a thousand entries of English language contributions to predominantly foreign language, non-common law legal Festschriften from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.
This bio-bibliography provides an overview of the life and career of the noted actress Agnes Moorehead. A brief biography discusses her midwestern upbringing as well as her academic background and early struggles in establishing her career. The biography also discusses Moorehead's later career successes in addition to her professional and personal relationships. The largest portion of the book is devoted to detailed listings of her work in film, television, radio and theatre. In many cases, these listings include synopses, cast listings and credits, review excerpts, and other information. Her most celebrated appearances are described and discussed at length. These appearances include the films, Citizen Kane and Magnificent Ambersons; television programs, "The Twilight Zone," "The Wild, Wild West," and "Bewitched;" radio shows "The March of Time," "The Shadow," and "Sorry, Wrong Number;" and her one-woman stage production as well as her work in Don Juan in Hell. This work is a valuable addition to the performing arts series.
To this date, efforts to document the scholarly contributions of exclusively African American criminologists are nonexistent. This is a reference work which offers contemporary Afrocentric perspective on critical issues of crime and justice by focusing on the contributions of African American criminologists whose interests and responses to crime arguably differ from those of mainstream white criminologists. This reference will be of interest to undergraduate and graduate students and faculty in criminal justice and practitioners in policy making. Most of the abstracts can be cross-referenced to publications within mainstream criminal justice journals. In addition, selected books, manuscripts, and an array of state and government documents are included and provide rare Afrocentric perspectives on issues of crime and justice. In the process, it credits many Caucasians and ethnic minorities as important contributors to a given publication. This reference book consists of five chapters: (1) an introductory article on issues that define (and confront) African American criminologists, (2) an alphabetical listing of published abstracts for each contributing author, (3) selected references to each publication, (4) an appendix containing titles to doctoral dissertations for all contributing African American scholars, and (5) an author and subject index.
James A. Michener is one of the most widely read American authors of the 20th century. He worked as a social studies teacher and as an editor, and went on to write such memorable works as Tales of the South Pacific and Centennial. He also wrote numerous scattered short pieces. Though a popular writer, Michener's importance to the American literary, educational, social, and political scene is now slowly being recognized, and his writings are being used as guides and touchstones for study in American schools. This volume contains a checklist of Michener's major novels and his scattered minor writings, along with an extensive annotated bibliography of works about him. The first part is a checklist of his works, while the second is an annotated listing of books and articles published on Michener from the 1920s to the 1990s. The volume also contains a selected list of reviews of Michener's major works. Two reviews for each work have been selected at random, and they provide an overview of the critical response to Michener's writings over the years.
Of all the Caribbean countries, Cuba possesses the most voluminous body of literature on mass communications. Following an informative introduction to the history of Cuban mass communications, this book is organized into three parts: resources, contemporary perspectives and historical perspectives. The resources section covers anthologies, bibliographies, catalogues, collections and other research materials. The contemporary perspectives of Cuban mass communications includes broadcasting, comic and graphic arts, film, freedom of the press, news agencies, popular culture, print media, Radio and Television Marti, training and education, and women and the media. The third section pulls together items of historical significance. To highlight the work of individual journalists, magazines and newspapers, 45 journalists and specific magazines and newspaper titles are singled out. This bibliography is representative in covering books, periodicals, dissertations, theses, and conference papers. Most of the more than 4,000 citations are in English or Spanish. The compiling editor completes this reference with author and general subject indices.

This catalogue completes the bibliographic survey of French harpsichord music begun in Bruce Gustafson's French Harpsichord Music of the Seventeenth Century: A Thematic Catalogue of Sources with Commentary (Ann Arbor, 1979). It has entries for all of the printed music known to have existed, over 230 volumes, and 150 manuscripts. It offers precise transcriptions of the title pages, full contents, dating, locations, editions, facsimiles, evaluations in the contemporary press, identifications of dedicatees, and stylistic comments. The eighteenth-century French harpsichord repertory is shown to extend from 1699 to about 1780, from Louis Marchand's Pieces de clavecin to the four Symphonies concertantes by Jean-Francois Tapray that juxtapose the harpsichord and piano as solo instruments. All original keyboard music is included. Since the introduction of the piano into France occurred during the twenty years preceding 1780, this Catalogue includes some music that may have been intended for that instrument rather than for the harpsichord. This period of transition is discussed in full in the Introduction.

This reference traces the historical background of editorial cartooning and presents works that chronicle the history and criticize the aesthetics of the art. This expansive volume examines the American editorial cartoon from its beginnings in 1747 into the second Clinton administration. This reference guide studies the evolution of editorial cartooning and places it in its historical context and provides appreciation and criticism of the cartoons presented. In addition to political cartoons, underground, radical, and propaganda cartoons are also discussed in this volume. This catalogue of the Shakespeare First Folio (1623) is the result of two decades of research during which 232 surviving copies of this immeasurably important book were located - a remarkable 72 more than were recorded in the previous census over a century ago - and examined in situ, creating an essential reference work.

The theological literature of the past 70 years reflects a steady interest in the theology of P.T. Forsyth (1848-1921), a Scottish Congregational theologian best known for anticipating the work of Karl Barth. This reference work provides an authoritative list of publications by and about Forsyth from 1886 to 1992. All but one of Forsyth's books lack indices, and this volume provides indices to the modern British editions of Forsyth's 22 major works. The bibliography is divided into two parts: works by Forsyth and works about him. Each part is sub-divided into sections by type of work, such as anthologies and collections, books, and book chapters. The indexes include a cumulative Scripture index, a cumulative index of names and cited works, and individual Scripture and name indexes for each of Forsyth's books.
