The extraordinary flowering of Southern literary talent in the early twentieth century, the Southern Literary Renascence, has continued virtually unabated, showing increasing vitality in recent decades. These newer fiction writers, poets, dramatists, and journalists reflect in their work the changing social conditions of the South while also presenting traditional Southern values and qualities. Ibn Khallikan's Biographical Dictionary, or Deaths of Eminent Men and History of the Sons of the Epoch, was the noted Arabic scholar Ibn Khallikan's most well-known and respected work. The author worked on the tome from 1256 to 1274, compiling names, genealogies, and histories of prominent or conspicuous men in the Islamic world. The final work was translated into English by William MacGuckin de Slane and is longer than 2,700 pages. It has been quoted by many Arabic rhetoricians and grammarians in other works, as it is considered one of the most important records of Arabic history ever written. Here, separated into four volumes, the Biographical Dictionary is an essential work for any student of Muslim culture and literature. Volume III includes: A detailed index of all biographies; notes from the translator for each biography; and genealogies of hundreds of Muslim figures, including The Katib Imad Ad-Din Al-Ispahani, Abu Bakr Al-Khowarezmi, Mukhlis Ad-Dawla Mukallad, and Nasr Al-Khubzaruzzi. IBN KHALLIKAN (1211-1282) was a thirteenth century Arabic scholar who studied in Damascus, Mosul and Aleppo, specializing in the fields of language, theology, and law, including jurisprudence. He became a well-respected judge in Cairo, eventually becoming a chief judge in Damascus in 1261. Khallikan wrote several books, but his most well known was Deaths of Eminent Men and History of the Sons of the Epoch, often referred to as the "Biographical Dictionary," which took him almost 20 years to complete. Khallikan retired from his position as judge just before his death in 1282. He was one of the most well-known historians and theologians in Egypt.

This annotated bibliography concentrates on books dealing with an important category of literature for youths, that of war and peace. The number of books for young people on this subject is surprisingly large, yet it is often ignored. Though such books don't form the center of children's literature, they do represent an important portion of it, revealing to children vital truths about the human condition and how nobly humans can act under extreme hardship. The book includes a number of different types of works dealing with war and peace, e.g., allegories and parables, picture books, poetry, biographies, Revolutionary and Civil War books, tales of the Holocaust and Hiroshima, and stories dealing with pacifism. This reference guide to the laws and legal literature of Mexico has been designed carefully by a reference librarian for researchers who do not read or speak Spanish. This basic sourcebook provides answers to the questions that are asked most frequently: "Which is the relevant code?" "Where can the text of the code be found?" "What secondary material is available?" "Which material is available in English?" This up-to-date guide should be useful as a reference in college, university, law, government, and public libraries and in companies that do business with Mexico. It could also be used in courses dealing with Mexican law and business. An introduction briefly describes Mexico's legal system and provides some historical background. Then the bibliography points to primary and secondary material of importance and is annotated partially. Entries are organized under forty-one subject categories with subdivisions pointing to the laws, the sources for the text of the laws, secondary materials from periodicals, and books and monographs. This volume of Geographers Biobibliographical Studies brings together essays on four Frenchmen, a Czech, and three Englishmen. The lives of our subjects extend from the late Enlightenment and the era of 'polite science' in Regency Britain to the first decade of the 21st century. These geographers and their studies are linked not only in their regional expertise - from Brazil, French Indo-China to Scandinavia and South Africa - but also by their commitment to the development of geography as a science and as a discipline. Neither his contemporaries nor subsequent historians have known quite what to do with John Quincy Adams. He was neither conservative nor liberal, neither aristocrat nor democrat. Frequently at odds with New England's political and social leadership, he was influenced by both Puritan traditions of the 17th century and the scientific Enlightenment of the 18th. His life divided into three careers, with his presidency, his least successful career, sandwiched between those of diplomat and Secretary of State on one hand, and congressman on the other. An unfortunate consequence of the incredible explosion in the number of social science journals since the 1960s is that the literature has become highly balkanized. Today articles on politics are routinely published in so many disciplines that it has become almost impossible for scholars to trace major trends outside of their own subfields. Nor can Ph.D. candidates ensure they have mastered the literature, as it is difficult even to discover much of what has been published. This book addresses these problems by providing a much-needed general guide to important journal articles about politics. In compiling this guide to 10,000 of the most significant articles about politics that have been published in all disciplines, Brunk considered over 250,000 candidate papers.
