Recent archeological and linguistic evidence reveals that the Jews of the New Testament era spoke Hebrew, not Greek as has been taught for so many years. With this revelation, we can conclude that the teachings of the New Testament were first conveyed, either in spoken or written form, in Hebrew, which means that the New Testament must be understood from a Hebraic perspective and not a Greek one. The first step in this process is to translate the Greek words of the New Testament into Hebrew. While translating the Greek words into Hebrew, may sound overwhelming for many, it is in fact, a very simple process that anyone can perform, even without any prior studies in Greek or Hebrew. All that is required is a Strong's Concordance and this book. This book lists the five hundred most frequent Greek words of the New Testament and provides their Hebrew translations and Hebraic definitions, with all Greek and Hebrew words cross-referenced with Strong's numbers.

This dictionary is the first published compilation by the Squamish Nation of Skwxwu7mesh Snichim, one of ten Coast Salish languages. The Squamish peoples' traditional homeland includes the territory around Burrard Inlet (Vancouver, B.C.), Howe Sound, and the Squamish and Cheakamus river valleys. The Squamish Nation, while a critically endangered language community, remains a crucial voice of the Squamish. The language offers a view of modern daily life, and contains the historical record, protocols, laws, and concerns of generations of Squamish people. This dictionary builds on over 100 years of documentation and research by Squamish speakers working with anthropologists and linguists beginning in the late nineteenth century. The dictionary is also informed by Squamish elders who taught language classes in the 1960s. More recently, the Squamish Language Elders Advisory Group has been involved with and supported the work of the Skwxwu7mesh Snichim Dictionary and language recovery initiatives. This important work is a reflection of current knowledge and is designed as a beginner's resource for a diverse audience of learners and scholars, as well as a tool for exploration.

This work is on a language which is often called "Chamba-Daka" to distinguish it from a very different language, Chamba-Leko. The speakers of these two languages share an ethnic identity. Since the speakers of many dialects of both of these languages identify themselves as members of the Chamba ethnic group, they are referred to here as Chamba Daka and Chamba Leko respectively. The name Chamba Daka does not designate a homogenous linguistic unit, but rather a set of dialects whose exact degree of diversity has not yet been precisely determined in every case. Chambaland straddles the present border between Nigeria and Cameroon. Chamba Leko speakers are restricted to the easternmost part of the central area, for the most part on the Cameroon part of the modern border. The remainder of the Chamba are Daka-speaking. It is this dialect which is the focus of this dictionary.

Have you ever wondered what gondoliers speak to one another across Venetian canals? No Italian dictionary will help you decipher what they say. What they speak is not a secret code, but a language also shared by shop keepers, waiters and hotel concierges throughout Venice, as well as millions of other people in the surrounding territory. From the valleys in the Dolomites down to the Northern Adriatic shores, in cities like Verona, Vicenza, Padua, Treviso, Trieste and Venice, people speak one common mother tongue. This dictionary introduces the reader to this beautiful language once spoken by Marco Polo, Palladio, Vivaldi, Canaletto and Casanova, and now still vibrant and widely in use. With 30,000 Venet words and a corresponding 20,000 English translations, this dictionary makes this musical language, once preferred in the Renaissance for commerce, theatre and diplomacy, accessible to the world once again. Not only does this dictionary include word translations but it also offers an introductory chapter guiding the reader through historical curiosities and linguistic peculiarities. You will find that in ancient times this language was written in a distinct alphabet unlike the one used by the Greeks and the Romans. That it was used in the first neo-Latin vernacular writing in the 9th century AD, and that Galileo used it in his first assertion of the heliocentric system. You will discover what Dante really thought about it while in exile in Verona, the mythological roots in Homer's Iliad as well as the surprising presence of this language also in Latin America, still thriving since the late 1800s.

Lhukonzo is spoken by a large number of people in Uganda and Congo. This pioneering dictionary is intended for those wishing to learn and use either Lhukonzo or Enlish. It gives the basic vocabulary of words commonly used in speaking or writing about everyday subjects; and most words are therefore of a non-specialist character. It does not contain all possible Lhukonzo words because, for example, there are words use, d in Congo that have a French and other neighbouring local language influence. Words included are classified according to their grammatical classes and the class is shown after each entry. Introductory sections cover verbs, nouns, noun construction and their definitions, irregular classes of nouns and their construction and definitions, and abbreviations used. The author saw no literature in Lhukonzo during his schooling in the Rwenzori Mountains, and this dictionary is an important step in preserving the language. |
