Belle Arti Cradled Gesso panels are handmade in Italy, and suitable for a wide variety of techniques including oil, acrylic, pencil, watercolour and ink. The extremely stable poplar 6mm plywood base is finished with a very smooth, absorbent acrylic gesso surface. The fine surface is ideal for detailed work. The unprimed cradled frame behind the panel makes a work feel more modern, as well as allowing a 3-D effect. It also means a work can be hung professionally without the addition of a frame, if you so desire. The external depth of the cradle is 38mm with the frame measuring 12mm in width.They are very absorbent so you may wish to use extra oil if using oil paint. Jackson's White Gesso Panels are made of Cradled Pine and MDF board, and can be bought as singles or in packs of ten. These economical panels feature a surface that is tough enough for the most rigorous painting and mixed-media techniques.

Jackson's White Gesso Panels have been hand-coated with a professional acid-free acrylic gesso ground, with added Titanium White. The frame is made of Pine wood, and the board is MDF. This makes them ideal for use with all drawing and painting media. Because these panels have been made by hand, they are not perfectly uniform and may display slight differences in texture. The surface of the panel may appear perfectly smooth, or be slightly textured like cold-pressed watercolour paper. If a perfectly smooth surface is required, they can be given a light sanding with fine grade sandpaper.

These panels are great for watercolour - if you want a smoother, even more absorbent ground, you can add one of our watercolour mediums.

Daler-Rowney Premium stretched canvases are made with a high-quality 380gsm, acid-free, 100% cotton, medium grain canvas, and professional stretcher bars for improved strength and optimal stability. The canvases have been given three coats of acrylic primer; triple-priming creates a perfect ready-to-use painting surface for both oils and acrylics. This holds the colour on the surface and prevents seepage through to the back. The canvases are stapled on the back to give clean edges and come complete with wooden wedges to adjust tension in the traditional manner. They are individually wrapped to protect the surface.

Each canvas is hand-stretched over specially profiled wooden stretcher bars and stapled on the reverse, leaving the sides 'clean'. This, along with the carefully tailored corners, allows the finished painting to be hung either unframed or framed as you wish.
