Intrigue, high-stakes machinations and adrenaline-fuelled track action
– Growing Wings is the never-before-told inside story of how the grid’s
most fascinating, swagger-rich and win-at-all-costs team competed their
way to total domination and disrupted Formula One’s world order.
With exclusive access to Red Bull's inner sanctum, but maintaining
journalistic independence, leading F1 writer Ben Hunt probes the
operations of a world-beating Formula One team over its eventful
twenty-year history, from the rivalries, turbulence and controversy, to
the game-changing tech and the leadership strategies. He also talks to
the drivers themselves, including Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel, for
a fascinating insight into the mindset of motorsport athletes through
success, risk and challenge.
Endorsed with a foreword by Team Principal Christian Horner, but
maintaining journalistic independence, this thrilling, frank and
unvarnished account of how the paddock’s loudest upstarts achieved team
alchemy with the promotion of a driver called Max Verstappen, shows you
what it looks like to go, learn, go again, tweak, test and ultimately
outplay the competition in a way never before seen in Formula One.
'Adrian has a unique gift for understanding drivers and racing
cars. He is ultra competitive but never forgets to have fun. An
immensely likeable man.' Damon Hill The world's foremost designer
in Formula One, Adrian Newey OBE is arguably one of Britain's
greatest engineers and this is his fascinating, powerful memoir.
How to Build a Car explores the story of Adrian's unrivalled
35-year career in Formula One through the prism of the cars he has
designed, the drivers he has worked alongside and the races in
which he's been involved. A true engineering genius, even in
adolescence Adrian's thoughts naturally emerged in shape and form -
he began sketching his own car designs at the age of 12 and took a
welding course in his school summer holidays. From his early career
in IndyCar racing and on to his unparalleled success in Formula
One, we learn in comprehensive, engaging and highly entertaining
detail how a car actually works. Adrian has designed for the likes
of Mario Andretti, Nigel Mansell, Alain Prost, Damon Hill, David
Coulthard, Mika Hakkinen, Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel, always
with a shark-like purity of purpose: to make the car go faster. And
while his career has been marked by unbelievable triumphs, there
have also been deep tragedies; most notably Ayrton Senna's death
during his time at Williams in 1994. Beautifully illustrated with
never-before-seen drawings, How to Build a Car encapsulates,
through Adrian's remarkable life story, precisely what makes
Formula One so thrilling - its potential for the total
synchronicity of man and machine, the perfect combination of style,
efficiency and speed.

fast on the track and silent off it - until now! In this superb and
authorised portrait of Raikkoenen, Kari Hotakainen gets to reveal

champion driver rarely opens up to outsiders, but he granted
Hotakainen exclusive access to his world and to his way of
thinking. It ensures that this will be a book that will delight all
fans of motorsport, who have long revered the Finn. Including
never-previously-seen photographs from his own collection, The

1952 was one of the most important years in Mercedes-Benz racing
history; after a 13-year absence, it returned to motor sport
competition with an automobile that rewrote the history of modern
sports car racing. The 300 SL's debut was the culmination of a
long, difficult road back to racing for Mercedes-Benz after a 13
year break. This book vividly depicts the 300 SL's performance in
the five races in which it competed in 1952, and tells the story of
how it became the most successful competition sports car of that
year. Through dramatic photographs, and equally stirring text, one
of the greatest years of sports car racing is brought to life,
filled with automobiles often finished in national racing colours,
prepared by great factory teams, driven by men who were national
sporting idols, and raced under gruelling conditions unique to the
age. From its Mille Miglia debut, through the Nurburgring, the Le
Mans 24 Hours, to its greatest race, the Carrera Panamericana, the
300 SL's career from conception to retirement is presented,
culminating with a detailed photographic essay illustrating
restoration of the oldest 300 SL in existence.

Thruxton has been described as "the UK's Speedbowl." The circuit is
home to the prestigious British Automobile Racing Club, and during
the period covered by this book the author was editor of the club's
magazine. As a result, he was able to get behind the scenes at many
of the events, including F2, British Touring Cars, Aurora AFX F1,
and club races. In the 1980s Thruxton featured in the early careers
of many Formula One drivers, and the book records the early
performances of such luminaries as Ayrton Senna, Nigel Mansell,
Damon Hill, Derek Warwick, Alan McNish, Mike Thackwell, Mika
Hakkinen, and many more. Featuring many previously unpublished
photographs from the author's personal collection, this is an
insightful account of racing at one of the fastest motor racing
circuits in the UK.
From a five-year-old girl racing 60mph micro-midgets in South
Africa, to a Formula One driver in the British Championship during
her first full year of racing in the UK, and on to becoming the
first and only woman ever to win a Formula One race, Desire Wilson
was a winner bested by very few of her male rivals. But
single-seater racing was just the start of Desire's ascent in
motorsport. She won two FIA World Championship Sports Car Endurance
races in 1980, and went on to compete in well over 120 types of
race car at more than 100 race tracks around the world. Always
competitive, she earned a reputation for an intense, no-nonsense
approach to racing, shrugging off the media glamour to focus on the
hard grind of staying competitive in one of the world's toughest
sporting arenas. Moving to the male-dominated world of North
American racing, Desire became a pioneer for women racing in the
harsh world of Indy Cars, facing discrimination, financial
problems, and other obstacles ranging from tragedy to farce. Her
career is unique in the world of racing, encompassing everything
from club racing to Formula One and World Championship sports cars,
to the evil monsters of the IndyCar World Series - the world's
fastest race cars. Hers is a story of hardships, fun, tragedy,
perseverance, injury, and the amazing behind-the-scenes world
masked by the public face and glamour of racing. It tells, too, of
the consequences of politics and discrimination in the male world
of professional auto racing.
"The British at Indianapolis" follows the format of the author's
award winning "The British at Le Mans". It recounts the history of
the Indianapolis 500 race through the eyes and actions of those
British born or British citizens who have driven in it, or been
involved in any other way - be it as a designer, mechanic, or
official. It also examines the British built cars that have won the
Indy 500 and the significance of the rear engined revolution
brought to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway by Cooper in 1961, and
elevated to success by Lotus and Lola. It includes such names as
Jim Clark, Graham Hill and Nigel Mansell. In addition to the 500,
it includes other races at the IMS, notably Lewis Hamilton's
victory in the Formula One Grand Prix there. It is a story that
goes back to the first 500 in 1911, when London-born Hughie Hughes
became the first British-born driver to race in the 500, to the
present day, with more British than ever competing in the race and
British drivers winning twice in the last four years.
Ferrari is the beating heart of the global sporting phenomenon that
is Formula 1. Its founder, Enzo Ferrari, was born on the racetrack
as a competition driver before he became a creator of mythical road
cars. No other team can inspire the passion or match the stories of
triumph and tragedy. Rainer Schlegelmilch and Ercole Colombo are
two of Formula 1's most legendary photographers. They covered the
sport from the 1960s onwards, with amazing access inside the
Scuderia. Here, for the first time, they come together to pay
tribute to Formula 1's most iconic team. Ferrari: From Inside and
Outside features contributions from iconic figures including Piero
Ferrari, Luca di Montezemolo, Stefano Domenicali, Jean Todt and
legendary designer Mauro Forghieri. The book is edited by
internationally celebrated Formula 1 commentator and Michael
Schumacher's biographer, James Allen.

Lewis Hamilton's explosive arrival on the Formula 1 scene has made
front-page headlines. In My Story, for the first time Lewis opens
up about his stunning debut season in grand prix racing, as well as
his dad Anthony, his home life and his early years. The only book
with the real story, as told by Lewis. In his first season in F1,
Lewis Hamilton thrilled the world of motor racing by finishing on
the podium in his first nine consecutive races - the first driver
to do so in the sport's 57-year history - and drove to victories in
Canada, America, Hungary and Japan. But bare statistics alone do
scant justice to the amazing impact Lewis Hamilton has had on the
sporting landscape. My Story gives the real account from Lewis
himself, as he sets the record straight about his colourful life on
and off the track. Given a grounded upbringing by his dedicated
father in unremarkable Stevenage, Lewis tells about how he first
tried out go-karting while on a cut-price family holiday in Ibiza.
In his book he gives the real version of events at a motor sport
dinner where, as a nine-year-old wearing a borrowed suit, he
approached McLaren team boss Ron Dennis with the immortal words
that were to change his life forever. He rose rapidly through the
Junior and Formula ranks, dominating every series with his raw
speed and canny race craft. Here Lewis candidly recalls those key
moments that shaped his career and went some way towards
compensating for the sacrifices made by his father Anthony in
getting his son to the top. Lewis also charts how he got into the
sport and was signed up by Ron Dennis, what motivates him, who are
his closest friends, how he copes with the constant travelling, and
the physical and mental challenges of driving a state-of-the-art
Formula 1 car. He looks back in detail at the 2007 World
Championship - the race wins, the frightening crash in Germany, his
intense rivalry with team-mate Fernando Alonso, his special
relationship with Ron Dennis, and the furore over the Ferrari
allegations - right up to the dramatic last race of the season in
Brazil.

heroes of this iconic sport together, in a stunning photographic
portrayal of the poise, skill and winning mindset that separates
the fast from the furious, the elite from the talented. Formula One
and its champions are brought to life with: An exquisitely written
profile of each of the 34 F1 World Champions, with key details from
the driver's life and F1 career Stunning photography of the drivers
and their cars, both on and off the track Historic interviews with
the sport's lost heroes, including James Hunt and Ayrton Senna
Exclusive quotes from icons such as Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton
and Nico Rosberg A foreword by Bernie Ecclestone, former chief
executive of the Formula One Group Debate has raged over which
driver is the best of the best. It is impossible to say. But that
will not deter energetic and informed discussion, usually
predicated on a personal preference swayed by affection. Each of
these champions will have experienced and delivered pulse-raising
performances many times over. With this handsome homage to the most
ferocious of sports and the incredible sportsmen who drive at the
edge in pursuit of greatness, it is time to choose your favorite F1
Champion.
LONGLISTED FOR THE WILLIAM HILL SPORTS BOOK OF THE YEAR PRIZE 2020
'The definitive biography of a racing driver who won three World
Championship titles' Matt Dickinson, The Times, Sports Books of the
Year 'Thoroughly gripping...a fitting tribute' Justin Marozzi,
Sunday Times Niki Lauda was one of the greatest stars in motor
racing - a superb driver on the track and a much-loved personality
off it. From his famous rivalry with James Hunt in 1976, as
depicted in the film Rush, to working with Lewis Hamilton at
Mercedes, his career helped define modern Formula One. Six weeks
after the 1976 crash at the notorious Nurburgring that left him
burned and receiving the last rites while obituaries were written,
Niki Lauda stepped back into his Ferrari at Monza to defend his
first World Champion title. Jackie Stewart called it 'the most
courageous thing I have ever witnessed in sport'. Lauda and Hunt
were playing cat-and-mouse for the championship. At the final race
of the season in Japan, the weather was appalling and conditions
treacherous. Lauda had a narrow lead and an agonising decision to
make - high-speed drama at its best. Following his extraordinary
recovery from the accident, Lauda won the title in 1977 and again,
following a return from retirement, in 1984 with McLaren. When he
eventually hung up his helmet for good, he started his own airline
and had to deal with the horrendous aftermath when one of his
aircraft crashed, killing all 223 on board. He later returned to
the sport in various management roles and successfully persuaded
Lewis Hamilton to join Mercedes. Maurice Hamilton first came across
Lauda in 1971 and in this definitive biography tells his remarkable
story. Based on interviews with friends, family, rival drivers and
colleagues, it is a superb tribute to a brave, supremely talented
and much-missed star of Formula One.
