Discovery of Ill-Known Motifs in Time Series Data (Paperback, 1st ed. 2022): Sahar Deppe Discovery of Ill-Known Motifs in Time Series Data (Paperback, 1st ed. 2022)
Sahar Deppe
R2,055 R1,924 Discovery Miles 19 240 Save R131 (6%) Ships in 9 - 17 working days

This book includes a novel motif discovery for time series, KITE (ill-Known motIf discovery in Time sEries data), to identify ill-known motifs transformed by affine mappings such as translation, uniform scaling, reflection, stretch, and squeeze mappings. Additionally, such motifs may be covered with noise or have variable lengths. Besides KITE's contribution to motif discovery, new avenues for the signal and image processing domains are explored and created. The core of KITE is an invariant representation method called Analytic Complex Quad Tree Wavelet Packet transform (ACQTWP). This wavelet transform applies to motif discovery as well as to several signal and image processing tasks. The efficiency of KITE is demonstrated with data sets from various domains and compared with state-of-the-art algorithms, where KITE yields the best outcomes.

Franziska Baumann
R1,475 Discovery Miles 14 750 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This SpringerBrief provides a unique insight into the practice and research of the connections between voice, HCI and embodiment. Specifically, it explores how the voice can be embodied and mediated by means of gestural communication through sensor interfaces and aims to situate and contextualise various aspects that generate meaningful connections in such interactive interface performance. The author offers an approach for understanding creative practices between humans and computers in gestural live music performance, from the perspective of the embodied relationships created within such systems. Underlying practices, principles and sensor technologies that support creativity in embodied human-computer interaction in vocal music performance are examined and a dynamic framework and tools for anyone wishing to engage with this subject in depth are presented. The book is essential reading not only for musicians, composers, researchers, application developers, musicologists and educators but also for students and tertiary institutions as well as actors and dramaturgs in a music context.

Remote Sensing Digital Image Analysis (Paperback, 6th ed. 2022): John A. Richards Remote Sensing Digital Image Analysis (Paperback, 6th ed. 2022)
John A. Richards
R1,805 Discovery Miles 18 050 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Remote Sensing Digital Image Analysis provides a comprehensive treatment of the methods used for the processing and interpretation of remotely sensed image data. Over the past decade there have been continuing and significant developments in the algorithms used for the analysis of remote sensing imagery, even though many of the fundamentals have substantially remained the same. As with its predecessors this new edition again presents material that has retained value but also includes newer techniques, covered from the perspective of operational remote sensing. The book is designed as a teaching text for the senior undergraduate and postgraduate student, and as a fundamental treatment for those engaged in research using digital image analysis in remote sensing. The presentation level is for the mathematical non-specialist. Since the very great number of operational users of remote sensing come from the earth sciences communities, the text is pitched at a level commensurate with their background. The chapters progress logically through means for the acquisition of remote sensing images, techniques by which they can be corrected, and methods for their interpretation. The prime focus is on applications of the methods, so that worked examples are included and a set of problems conclude each chapter.

Human Perception of Visual Information - Psychological and Computational Perspectives (Paperback, 1st ed. 2022): Bogdan... Human Perception of Visual Information - Psychological and Computational Perspectives (Paperback, 1st ed. 2022)
Bogdan Ionescu, Wilma A. Bainbridge, Naila Murray
R4,240 Discovery Miles 42 400 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Recent years have witnessed important advancements in our understanding of the psychological underpinnings of subjective properties of visual information, such as aesthetics, memorability, or induced emotions. Concurrently, computational models of objective visual properties such as semantic labelling and geometric relationships have made significant breakthroughs using the latest achievements in machine learning and large-scale data collection. There has also been limited but important work exploiting these breakthroughs to improve computational modelling of subjective visual properties. The time is ripe to explore how advances in both of these fields of study can be mutually enriching and lead to further progress. This book combines perspectives from psychology and machine learning to showcase a new, unified understanding of how images and videos influence high-level visual perception - particularly interestingness, affective values and emotions, aesthetic values, memorability, novelty, complexity, visual composition and stylistic attributes, and creativity. These human-based metrics are interesting for a very broad range of current applications, ranging from content retrieval and search, storytelling, to targeted advertising, education and learning, and content filtering. Work already exists in the literature that studies the psychological aspects of these notions or investigates potential correlations between two or more of these human concepts. Attempts at building computational models capable of predicting such notions can also be found, using state-of-the-art machine learning techniques. Nevertheless their performance proves that there is still room for improvement, as the tasks are by nature highly challenging and multifaceted, requiring thought on both the psychological implications of the human concepts, as well as their translation to machines.

3D Point Cloud Analysis - Traditional, Deep Learning, and Explainable Machine Learning Methods (Paperback, 1st ed. 2021): Shan... 3D Point Cloud Analysis - Traditional, Deep Learning, and Explainable Machine Learning Methods (Paperback, 1st ed. 2021)
Shan Liu, Min Zhang, Pranav Kadam, C.-C.Jay Kuo
R3,070 Discovery Miles 30 700 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book introduces the point cloud; its applications in industry, and the most frequently used datasets. It mainly focuses on three computer vision tasks -- point cloud classification, segmentation, and registration -- which are fundamental to any point cloud-based system. An overview of traditional point cloud processing methods helps readers build background knowledge quickly, while the deep learning on point clouds methods include comprehensive analysis of the breakthroughs from the past few years. Brand-new explainable machine learning methods for point cloud learning, which are lightweight and easy to train, are then thoroughly introduced. Quantitative and qualitative performance evaluations are provided. The comparison and analysis between the three types of methods are given to help readers have a deeper understanding. With the rich deep learning literature in 2D vision, a natural inclination for 3D vision researchers is to develop deep learning methods for point cloud processing. Deep learning on point clouds has gained popularity since 2017, and the number of conference papers in this area continue to increase. Unlike 2D images, point clouds do not have a specific order, which makes point cloud processing by deep learning quite challenging. In addition, due to the geometric nature of point clouds, traditional methods are still widely used in industry. Therefore, this book aims to make readers familiar with this area by providing comprehensive overview of the traditional methods and the state-of-the-art deep learning methods. A major portion of this book focuses on explainable machine learning as a different approach to deep learning. The explainable machine learning methods offer a series of advantages over traditional methods and deep learning methods. This is a main highlight and novelty of the book. By tackling three research tasks -- 3D object recognition, segmentation, and registration using our methodology -- readers will have a sense of how to solve problems in a different way and can apply the frameworks to other 3D computer vision tasks, thus give them inspiration for their own future research. Numerous experiments, analysis and comparisons on three 3D computer vision tasks (object recognition, segmentation, detection and registration) are provided so that readers can learn how to solve difficult Computer Vision problems.
