Marius Leordeanu
R4,019 Discovery Miles 40 190 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book addresses one of the most important unsolved problems in artificial intelligence: the task of learning, in an unsupervised manner, from massive quantities of spatiotemporal visual data that are available at low cost. The book covers important scientific discoveries and findings, with a focus on the latest advances in the field. Presenting a coherent structure, the book logically connects novel mathematical formulations and efficient computational solutions for a range of unsupervised learning tasks, including visual feature matching, learning and classification, object discovery, and semantic segmentation in video. The final part of the book proposes a general strategy for visual learning over several generations of student-teacher neural networks, along with a unique view on the future of unsupervised learning in real-world contexts. Offering a fresh approach to this difficult problem, several efficient, state-of-the-art unsupervised learning algorithms are reviewed in detail, complete with an analysis of their performance on various tasks, datasets, and experimental setups. By highlighting the interconnections between these methods, many seemingly diverse problems are elegantly brought together in a unified way. Serving as an invaluable guide to the computational tools and algorithms required to tackle the exciting challenges in the field, this book is a must-read for graduate students seeking a greater understanding of unsupervised learning, as well as researchers in computer vision, machine learning, robotics, and related disciplines.

Akka Zemmari, Jenny Benois-Pineau
R1,634 Discovery Miles 16 340 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book provides the reader with the fundamental knowledge in the area of deep learning with application to visual content mining. The authors give a fresh view on Deep learning approaches both from the point of view of image understanding and supervised machine learning. It contains chapters which introduce theoretical and mathematical foundations of neural networks and related optimization methods. Then it discusses some particular very popular architectures used in the domain: convolutional neural networks and recurrent neural networks. Deep Learning is currently at the heart of most cutting edge technologies. It is in the core of the recent advances in Artificial Intelligence. Visual information in Digital form is constantly growing in volume. In such active domains as Computer Vision and Robotics visual information understanding is based on the use of deep learning. Other chapters present applications of deep learning for visual content mining. These include attention mechanisms in deep neural networks and application to digital cultural content mining. An additional application field is also discussed, and illustrates how deep learning can be of very high interest to computer-aided diagnostics of Alzheimer's disease on multimodal imaging. This book targets advanced-level students studying computer science including computer vision, data analytics and multimedia. Researchers and professionals working in computer science, signal and image processing may also be interested in this book.

Advanced Computing in Electron Microscopy (Paperback, 3rd ed. 2020): Earl J. Kirkland Advanced Computing in Electron Microscopy (Paperback, 3rd ed. 2020)
Earl J. Kirkland
R4,257 Discovery Miles 42 570 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This updated and revised edition of a classic work provides a summary of methods for numerical computation of high resolution conventional and scanning transmission electron microscope images. At the limits of resolution, image artifacts due to the instrument and the specimen interaction can complicate image interpretation. Image calculations can help the user to interpret and understand high resolution information in recorded electron micrographs. The book contains expanded sections on aberration correction, including a detailed discussion of higher order (multipole) aberrations and their effect on high resolution imaging, new imaging modes such as ABF (annular bright field), and the latest developments in parallel processing using GPUs (graphic processing units), as well as updated references. Beginning and experienced users at the advanced undergraduate or graduate level will find the book to be a unique and essential guide to the theory and methods of computation in electron microscopy.

Master the syntax for working with R's plotting functions in graphics and stats in this easy reference to formatting plots. The approach in Visualizing Data in R 4 toward the application of formatting in ggplot() will follow the structure of the formatting used by the plotting functions in graphics and stats. This book will take advantage of the new features added to R 4 where appropriate including a refreshed color palette for charts, Cairo graphics with more fonts/symbols, and improved performance from grid graphics including ggplot 2 rendering speed. Visualizing Data in R 4 starts with an introduction and then is split into two parts and six appendices. Part I covers the function plot() and the ancillary functions you can use with plot(). You'll also see the functions par() and layout(), providing for multiple plots on a page. Part II goes over the basics of using the functions qplot() and ggplot() in the package ggplot2. The default plots generated by the functions qplot() and ggplot() give more sophisticated-looking plots than the default plots done by plot() and are easier to use, but the function plot() is more flexible. Both plot() and ggplot() allow for many layers to a plot. The six appendices will cover plots for contingency tables, plots for continuous variables, plots for data with a limited number of values, functions that generate multiple plots, plots for time series analysis, and some miscellaneous plots. Some of the functions that will be in the appendices include functions that generate histograms, bar charts, pie charts, box plots, and heatmaps. What You Will Learn Use R to create informative graphics Master plot(), qplot(), and ggplot() Discover the canned graphics functions in stats and graphics Format plots generated by plot() and ggplot() Who This Book Is For Those in data science who use R. Some prior experience with R or data science is recommended.

Human Emotion Recognition from Face Images (Paperback, 1st ed. 2020): Paramartha Dutta, Asit Barman Human Emotion Recognition from Face Images (Paperback, 1st ed. 2020)
Paramartha Dutta, Asit Barman
R4,691 Discovery Miles 46 910 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book discusses human emotion recognition from face images using different modalities, highlighting key topics in facial expression recognition, such as the grid formation, distance signature, shape signature, texture signature, feature selection, classifier design, and the combination of signatures to improve emotion recognition. The book explains how six basic human emotions can be recognized in various face images of the same person, as well as those available from benchmark face image databases like CK+, JAFFE, MMI, and MUG. The authors present the concept of signatures for different characteristics such as distance and shape texture, and describe the use of associated stability indices as features, supplementing the feature set with statistical parameters such as range, skewedness, kurtosis, and entropy. In addition, they demonstrate that experiments with such feature choices offer impressive results, and that performance can be further improved by combining the signatures rather than using them individually. There is an increasing demand for emotion recognition in diverse fields, including psychotherapy, biomedicine, and security in government, public and private agencies. This book offers a valuable resource for researchers working in these areas.
