The gap between demand for consumer goods and their efficient supply is greater now than at any other time, and is widening as consumers’ wants become less predictable, and suppliers struggle to meet them. Quick Response (QR) is both a management paradigm and a methodology that allows supply systems to react quickly to changes while improving their performance. QR aims to help organize a business in the face of problems associated with the vast array of goods and services now to be found in consumer markets. It is particularly relevant to the Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) and Fashion industries. QR works by compressing the time between product or service design concept and appearance on the retail shelf. It then takes advantage of such recent technologies as Point of Sale (PoS) tracking and Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) to constantly up-date estimates of true consumer demand, and then places intelligent re-orders for goods with flexible manufacturers and their suppliers. This book explores two central aspects of shopper behavior at the POP: decision-making itself and how it is affected by in-store and out-of-store factors, with a focus on the role of in-store attention, post-decision choice satisfaction and its determinants. It empirically researches these aspects using data gathered in an eye-tracking field experiment. These data allow for a precise analysis of attention at the POP, as well as of many other important variables of in-store decision-making. Overall, the results show that retailers have less influence on in-store decision-making than manufacturers, despite having control over the POP, as out-of-store factors have a stronger impact on in-store decision-making than in-store factors.

The warehouses of the future will come in a variety of forms, but with a few common ingredients. Firstly, human operational handling of items in warehouses is increasingly being replaced by automated item handling. The starting point for this book was the author's experience that much of what happens in sales happens randomly and incidentally. While searching for a proven structure he discovered the Rule of St Benedict, and transferred the content of these rules to sales. At first glance the undertaking seems a little ambitious, but it does succeed in delivering convincing results and practical benefits for the streamlining of sales processes. The central chapter of the book offers a sales structure which can be easily adapted for sales in all sectors.
Humanitarian logistics has received increasing interest both from logistics academics and practitioners as a result of the dramatic increase in both natural and man-made disasters. The impact on affected populations can be all the more limited as much as the logistics operations in response to emergencies are effective and efficient. Collaboration with various relevant actors involving in the emergency resolution can help to reduce costs, increase speed, and improve the leanness/agility level in the humanitarian supply chain, and viceversa, poor coordination among them is cited as an explanation for performance gaps. As disasters become increasingly complex better collaboration not only with government agencies, military units, humanitarian organizations, but also through partnerships with private business becomes more and more important. However, such partnerships are not easy as organizations in the two sectors are extremely different. The main aim of this study is exploring more in depth the partnership between profit and non-profit in emergency relief operations, with a specific attention to the cross-learning potential for both the logistics service provider (profit) and the humanitarian organization (non-profit).
The focus of the work is twofold. First, it provides an introduction into fundamental structural and behavioral aspects of periodic review inventory systems.
