With the help of this sure-fire instruction guide, you can learn how to build a sophisticated, yet low-cost microprocessor-controlled radio transceiver as well as smaller devices such as a simple frequency synthesizer and a spectrum analyzer. Filled with tested, hands-on projects that really work, this great reference features single-sided circuit boards that are easy to build, and includes detailed circuit-board layouts and extensive parts lists. "Build Your Own Intelligent Amateur Radio Transceiver" will enable you to: Interface digital and analog circuitry Keep digital switching noise out of sensitive analog circuits Interface a microcontroller to various input/output devices Perform assembly programming of the Intel 80c31 microcontroller Anticipate the real-world behavior of RF circuits Fully grasp circuit-board fabrication Understand frequency synthesis techniques used in modern radio equipment It's all here in one unique resource-- everything you need to create a state-of-the-art radio transceiver with top-notch performance!
Simplified Design of Switching Power Supplies is an all-inclusive,
one-stop guide to switching power-supply design. Step-by-step
instructions and diagrams render this book essential for the
student and the experimenter, as well as the design professional.
This expanded and updated edition provides a comprehensive overview of the science and technology of magnetic recording. In the six years since the publication of the first edition, the magnetic recording and storage industry has burgeoned with the introduction of a host of new ideas and technologies. This book contains a discussion of almost every technologically important aspect of recording, including such topics as: the fundamental physics and measurements of magnetism and magnetic-materials; current magnetic recording media, including thin film disks and metal evaporated tape; the theory of magnetic recording heads, including magneto-resistive read heads; fabrication methods used on current magnetic heads; the write and read processes; signal to noise ratio; audio, instrumentation and video analog recorders; the fundamentals of digital recording theory; the characteristics of current digital tape and disk computer peripheral recorders; the characteristics of current digital video; the evolution of modulation codes from the beginning to the present; and an outline of the physics, technology and future prospects of optical disk recorders.; The book is written in a non-mathematica
This book describes VHF and UHF antennas for the range 30-3000 MHz developed over the last 50 years. Many designs that have not previously been described in detail are covered. The author's long, practical experience is shown in numerous examples of new uses for old designs. Particular attention is paid to the effects on the antennas of the local environment and the structures on which they are mounted, both fixed and mobile, including man. Methods of predicting and measuring the performance of antennas are described at length. The effect of adverse environments on antennas are discussed, and suggestions are given for measruing electrical performance under these conditions. The book is primarily aimed at practising antenna engineers - the theory of basic antennas is kept to a minimum but given where appropriate for the less well-known types.
