'60's British B-movie chiller featuring voodoo, the supernatural and general dark arts. A comely young British teacher takes up a remote posting in darkest Africa where the local juju man lays a hex on her. She has a breakdown and is forced to return to the UK. There, she takes up a post at a rural school where all appears well on the surface. It turns out, however, that the place is a hotbed of witchery and darkness and that a virgin sacrifice is planned for the near future. The film was directed by Cyril Frankel, who'd made Hammer's 1960 child abuse drama 'Never Take Sweets From a Stranger', and the script was by Quatermass author Nigel Kneale. Their depiction of sinister undercurrents in a pastoral setting wasn't sinister enough for the BBFC, however, who only granted the film an 'A' certificate. Hammer persuaded them to reconsider, but this accomplished film still failed to find an audience.

Collection of three documentaries by Belorusian director Sergei Loznitsa. In 'Blockade' (2006), archive images of Hitler's siege of Leningrad show how the city became victim to a blockade which caused the deaths of as many as 800,000 innocent people due to starvation, disease and cold weather. In 'Landscape' (2003), Loznitsa records the inhabitants of the Russian village Okulovka while they wait at a bus stop in the middle of winter. In 'Revue' (2008), the director pieces together a collection of archive propaganda material produced in the Soviet Union during the 1950s and 60s. Giving an insight into the mindset of the people at the time, the film shows both sides of the communist ideology from grand images of the Socialist realism art form to the harsh realities of human suffering and poverty.

Inventive horror in which a sound engineer working in the confines of an Italian movie studio becomes dangerously absorbed in his work. The tale is set in the 1970s, when Italian horror films, particularly those belonging to the 'giallo' genre, were known for being shot soundless, with the effects and language tracks added later so that the movies could be dubbed into multiple languages and marketed more effectively abroad. The British sound engineer, Gilderoy (Toby Jones), works in one such studio, stabbing and otherwise assaulting vegetables to provide the requisite sounds for a horror flick. However, the more time Gilderoy spends in the studio, the more he is drawn into the world of the films on which he works. Some of the horror seems to stem from within, as Gilderoy revisits moments from his past, but it leaves him precariously poised between the real world and the imaginative realm represented by the films...
