Through Dustin's provocation Tiaan also almost gets expelled from school. All these things add up and eventually Tiaan cracks and cries about his friend for the first time in 9 months. Learning that Yvette is going to attempt to surf bigger waves on her own convinces him to help her become better at surfing, even just for surfing's sake. Via Dustin Tiaan finds out that Yvette can still join Wave-Seekers, but as he do not want her to go by herself or with Dustin, Tiaan withholds this information from her.
Tiaan's dad takes him to the rehab centre where Geyer is recovering and they reconcile. During their annual confirmation class camp, Tiaan is forced to face his fear of entering the water willingly and he tells Yvette about the Wave-Seekers opportunity and she confronts him about his own guilt.The next morning, after finding out Yvette left the camp terrain, Tiaan and Hermann chases her down, just as she is about to leave town to go back to staying with her dad. They convince her to go to the beach, but she agrees only on the condition that Tiaan surfs with her. He finally agrees.
At the beach, after Tiaan finally let go of his guilt, he squares off against Dustin and gets offered a spot on the Tour along with Yvette. At long last he embraces life again.
