This book shows you how to apply popular craft techniques to cake decorating, creating edible crafts using fondant icing (sugar paste), modelling paste, chocolate paste, buttercream icing, ganache and royal icing. Whether you are a baker or cake decorator who would like to learn new crafts and apply them to your cakes or a crafter who would like to learn to bake and decorate cakes, there is something for everyone. Katrien chose tray bake cakes (rectangular sheet cakes) to work on, keeping the shape simple and focusing on the craft techniques used to decorate them. The cake is a blank canvas on which artwork is created. The inspiration for the decorative designs comes from paper crafts, mosaics, embroidery, printed fabric patterns, quilting, applique and whatever craft you can imagine. This book features 18 cake craft projects from start to finish, as well as mini cakes, showing you step by step how to create your own works of art. As an added bonus there are some tried and trusted recipes for cakes, buttercream, ganache and fondant icing as well as designs to use in decorations.
During the screening of the MasterChef South Africa 2013 series, TV viewers were both fascinated by, and impressed with, the Van der Wat sisters. Seline and Leandri’s relationship and their varying cooking styles and personalities kept audiences on the edge of their seats right up until the final episode as they were ultimately placed second and third – no mean achievement. Since then their foodie careers have taken off, albeit in differing directions. But in Two, they are back in collaboration to present a really fascinating cookbook concept: taking the same main ingredient and creating two different dishes from it, or taking a classic recipe and making one for family and casual dining, and the other version to impress for serious entertaining. Whatever the case, both dishes will be utterly delicious. So, for instance, take a straight forward Pea Soup. The basic recipe is Pea and Fennel Soup with Goat’s Cheese and Lemon Oil – wonderful for a weekday meal. And for your dinner party guests, try Pea Brûlée with Smoked Salmon Velouté and Asparagus Ribbons.

Heard the one about the Fat Professor, the Whole-Food Dietitian and the Michelin-trained Chef who want to change the world? Nope, this is not a silly joke. Far from it. In fact, we hope this book provides some serious answers. We hope it is the beginning of a life-changing journey for many who have experienced inexplicable weight gain, the heartbreak of constant deprivation and yo-yo dieting, or worse, physical illness through poor nutrition. For decades, the brightest minds in the nutrition and science field have had fat pegged as the bad guy. As a result, many of us have been enslaved by an outdated food pyramid which has pushed us to eat carb-laden and processed food. As the evidence mounts against sugar and processed carbohydrates, it's time to flip the pyramid and break free of the fat phobia. In this practical guide, we present inspiring success stories, compelling evidence, and simple ways to “eat upside-down”. Forget everything you were taught at school, flip the food pyramid on its head and start nourishing your body the way it was designed to be nourished.

Mindful Meals, Your guide to happy, healthy children.
When it comes to preparing a quick meal, if I really want to please myself or someone else, it will be the plate of my life, literally three ingredients — pasta, olive oil and truffles. Simple to put together to impress. The flavours tick all my boxes. When I first thought to compile this book of recipes, I was concerned by the possibly ambiguous relationship between tradition and contemporary ways of cooking being presented together, all in one place. There was a chance that it was not going to work. Some of my own recipes turn tradition on its head, but now that I see them all together here, I trust that you will find a wonderful balance of nostalgic food stories influenced by my mother and grandmother alongside my recipes of indulgent contemporary cooking that stem from my love for trying new things inspired by years of travel. These, I hope, will allow you to explore different cultures, ingredients and recipes in your own home by switching things around in the kitchen. What you will find on these pages are recipes that provide a wonderful contrast in both origin and style, you will be invited to experience my family’s rituals of goat slaughtering and pot bread by the fire, the ancestral food from the soil and woven in between is my own epicurean culinary journey.
Super Natural pivots around an abundance of vegetables and natural,

The inspiration behind Restaurant Klein JAN did not come from a desire
to create a fine dining experience in the middle of the Kalahari. It
came from the heart – from the tables of my childhood – memories that I
have taken with me into an unknown land. Although I hadn’t been to the
Kalahari before visiting Tswalu for the first time, I instantly
connected with this place. I felt my grandmother’s presence at Boscia
House, I fell in love with the people of the Northern Cape and was
overwhelmed by their hospitality, and the more time I spent in the
Kalahari, the deeper my roots spread through the endless red earth.
This book is my homage to losing your heart to a special place, and
making your dreams come true. |
