Techniques for cultivation and harvesting hallucinogenic and psychoactive plants. Written in careful detail by an expert horticulturist. This hard to obtain cult classic is once again available. Glossary.
This book assumes that it is no longer tenable to work in healthcare without considering the person as a whole being constituted by a rich weaving of mind, body, culture, family, spirit and ecology. The MindBody approach embraces this 'whole.' But how does it transform clinical practice and training for the clinician and treatment for the patient/client? The book collects together the experiences from a diverse range of clinical practitioners (including psychotherapy, specialist medicine, general practice, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, dietetics, , nursing, and complementary and alternative medicine practitioners) who have deliberately chosen to integrate a MindBody philosophy and skill set in their clinical practices. All reflect deeply on their unique journeys in transforming their clinical encounters. Most have been trained in the dominant Western framework and have inherited the classical dualistic approach which typically keeps mind and body apart.

"I am most excited and impressed with the scope and focus of this
work. As I began to read it, I had trouble putting it down. It is
highly readable, engaging, all-inclusive, and most
informative." "I am honored and delighted to recommend this text for all
nurses who cared for and care about patients." This book places comfort at the forefront of nursing care, by
presenting a carefully researched theory of comfort that nurses can
use as a framework for practice. Engagingly written, the book
combines a first-person account of the development of the theory
with supporting research, and practical information for its
application. Kolcaba analyzes the concept of comfort; describes its
physical, psychospiritual, environmental and sociocultural
components; evaluates its meaning in the many different contexts in
which health care occurs; and describes how it can be measured. The
appendix includes comfort care questionnaires that can be used with
patients in many settings, and a comfort scale that can be used
with patients for a quick assessment of comfort. Clinicians,
researchers, educators, and students will find this holistic
approach helpful in setting priorities and parameters for patient
care.

Kava is an herb that has been used for ceremonial, ritual, religious, social, political, and medicinal purposes for centuries. In the past few decades, kava has been widely marketed as an over-the-counter treatment for anxiety, stress, restlessness, and sleep disorders. Kava: From Ethnology to Pharmacology describes the history, botanical origins, production, economic aspects, and chemical and biological properties of this medicinal herb. A major part of the book focuses on the chemical and pharmacological properties of kavalactones, the psychoactive constituents of kava that reportedly have sedative, anxiolytic, analgesic, local anesthetic, anticonvulsant, and neuroprotective properties. Clinical and medical studies that provide evidence of kava's therapeutic benefits are balanced with an assessment of the known adverse effects and interactions in which kava has been implicated. With contributions from experts in the field, this volume presents a comprehensive view of the traditional aspects of kava and the latest applications for the herb. It is a valuable reference for botanists, phytochemists, toxicologists, physicians, pharmacists, herbalists, and alternative medicine practitioners.

They are now widely used to treat a variety of conditions, from depression to sexual dysfunction." "Brief Cognitive Hypnosis gives a unique and refreshing
presentation of various applications of hypnosis in clinical
practice. Most importantly this book focuses on brief clinical
interventions which are both effacacious and cost effective. The
authors clearly describe a number of techniques for correcting
dysfunctional behaviors such as irritating and/or self-destructive
habits, ameliorating anxiety disorders, treating pain, and managing
troublesome side effects of various medical treatments and
procedures. I highly recommend this book as a valuable resource for
all clinicians who are faced with helping their patients deal with
such problems." "I wish I had said that. This book is clear, accurate, and
explicated in a way that is indisputably better than any other
texts on clinical hypnosis that I've read." "[This book] is a magical addition to the field of Clinical
Hypnosis. Two distinguished Board Certified Clinicians with over
sixty years of combined clinical experience have provided a
delightful book that will not only add to the experienced
clinicians' skills, but provide a straightforward and practical
approach for the neophyte in hypnosis." "This is a valuable book for clinicians. It is highly practical,
'user friendly', and explicates rapid treatment methods for the
range of problems most commonly seen in our offices. I definitely
recommend it." .,."Zarren and Eimer integrate traditional psychodynamic models
of the unconscious and symptom-formation with modern cognitive
theory, the outcome of which is a new model for the change process
in therapy. With lucid description of their clinical methods and
rich case illustrations the authors show how the hypnotic trance,
along with careful attention to the wording of the hypnotic
scripts, enable the patient to open to the possibility of genuine
change."
President Nixon signed the War on Cancer into Law in 1971. Some forty-five years and several billion dollars later, it looks like we have lost the battle. Or have we? What if a natural solution had been there all along, just overlooked by the pharmaceutical industry? When a new, natural, and non-toxic way to address cancer is being discovered, it is a game changer that does not go unnoticed in the scientific community. But instead of being hailed and embraced, it is fiercely opposed by prominent scientists with strong ties with the pharmaceutical industry and the might of the government is called to the rescue. As a result, we are losing the war on cancer. Mirko Beljanski, PhD, one of the first green molecular biologists, was called upon by President Mitterrand of France to treat his prostate cancer, allowing him to reach his second term in office, but upon his death, Beljanski became the subject of relentless persecution aimed at wiping out this information. In Winning the War on Cancer, his daughter Sylvie Beljanski outlines her journey of learning about her father's discoveries, and ensuring his legacy is available to all those struggling with the disease today.

The rapid growth of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM)
demands that the public, the medical world, social scientists, the
media, and governments pay attention. People are questioning the
limits of what modern medicine can accomplish and seeking
additional ways to manage their health. While many are
enthusiastically adopting complementary and alternative forms of
medicine, others are more sceptical. Physicians' attitudes are in
transition, and governments are pondering where this increasingly
important phenomenon fits into the health care system. The
challenge is to keep pace with the changing ways that people view
health and illness, take reposibility for themselves, and
incorporate CAM into their health care.
Panax Ginseng has been commonly used in indigenous medicine in the
Far East for over 5,000 years. Its man-like appearance ensured that
it was quickly accepted as a tonic maintaining the body in good
health, inducing rejuvenation and retarding ageing. The vast output
of modern research suggests uses for this ancient drug in today's
medicine. |
