Fuzzy Logic, Identification and Predictive Control (Hardcover, 2005 ed.): Jairo Jose Espinosa Oviedo, Joos P.L. Vandewalle,... Fuzzy Logic, Identification and Predictive Control (Hardcover, 2005 ed.)
Jairo Jose Espinosa Oviedo, Joos P.L. Vandewalle, Vincent Wertz
R4,163 Discovery Miles 41 630 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

The complexity and sensitivity of modern industrial processes and systems increasingly require adaptable advanced control protocols. These controllers have to be able to deal with circumstances demanding "judgement" rather than simple "yes/no," "on/off" responses, circumstances where an imprecise linguistic description is often more relevant than a cut-and-dried numerical one. The ability of fuzzy systems to handle numeric and linguistic information within a single framework renders them efficacious in this form of expert control system.

Divided into two parts, Fuzzy Logic, Identification and Predictive Control first shows you how to construct static and dynamic fuzzy models using the numerical data from a variety of real-world industrial systems and simulations. The second part demonstrates the exploitation of such models to design control systems employing techniques like data mining.

Fuzzy Logic, Identification and Predictive Control is a comprehensive introduction to the use of fuzzy methods in many different control paradigms encompassing robust, model-based, PID-like and predictive control. This combination of fuzzy control theory and industrial serviceability will make a telling contribution to your research whether in the academic or industrial sphere and also serves as a fine roundup of the fuzzy control area for the graduate student.

Advances in Industrial Control aims to report and encourage the transfer of technology in control engineering. The rapid development of control technology has an impact on all areas of the control discipline. The series offers an opportunity for researchers to present an extended exposition of new work in all aspects of industrialcontrol.

Design of Energy-Efficient Application-Specific Instruction Set Processors (Hardcover, 2004 ed.): Tilman Gloekler, Heinrich Meyr Design of Energy-Efficient Application-Specific Instruction Set Processors (Hardcover, 2004 ed.)
Tilman Gloekler, Heinrich Meyr
R2,788 Discovery Miles 27 880 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

After a brief introduction to low-power VLSI design, the design space of ASIP instruction set architectures (ISAs) is introduced with a special focus on important features for digital signal processing. Based on the degrees of freedom offered by this design space, a consistent ASIP design flow is proposed: this design flow starts with a given application and uses incremental optimization of the ASIP hardware, of ASIP coprocessors and of the ASIP software by using a top-down approach and by applying application-specific modifications on all levels of design hierarchy. A broad range of real-world signal processing applications serves as vehicle to illustrate each design decision and provides a hands-on approach to ASIP design. Finally, two complete case studies demonstrate the feasibility and the efficiency of the proposed methodology and quantitatively evaluate the benefits of ASIPs in an industrial context.

Modeling and Control of Logical Discrete Event Systems (Hardcover, 1995 ed.): Ratnesh Kumar, Vijay K Garg Modeling and Control of Logical Discrete Event Systems (Hardcover, 1995 ed.)
Ratnesh Kumar, Vijay K Garg
R2,735 Discovery Miles 27 350 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

The field of discrete event systems has emerged to provide a formal treatment of many of the man-made systems such as manufacturing systems, communication networks, automated traffic systems, database management systems, and computer systems that are event-driven, highly complex, and not amenable to the classical treatments based on differential or difference equations. Discrete event systems is a growing field that utilizes many interesting mathematical models and techniques. In Modeling and Control of Logical Discrete Event Systems, the focus is on a high level treatment of discrete event systems, where the order of events, rather their occurrence times, is the principal concern. Such treatment is needed to guarantee that the system under study meets desired logical goals. In this framework, discrete event systems are modeled by formal languages or, equivalently, by state machines. The field of logical discrete event systems is an interdisciplinary field -- it includes ideas from computer science, control theory, and operations research. Our goal is to bring together in one book the relevant techniques from these fields. Modeling and Control of Logical Discrete Event Systems is the first book of this kind for professionals in the area of discrete event systems. The book is also designed for a graduate level course on logical discrete event systems. It contains all the necessary background material in formal language theory and lattice theory. The only prerequisite is some degree of mathematical maturity'. Several examples and exercise problems are included in each chapter to facilitate classroom teaching.

Vision and Information Processing for Automation (Hardcover, 1986 ed.): A. Browne, L. NortonWayne Vision and Information Processing for Automation (Hardcover, 1986 ed.)
A. Browne, L. NortonWayne
R5,413 Discovery Miles 54 130 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Developments in electronic hardware, particularly microprocessors and solid-state cameras, have resulted in a vast explosion in the range and variety of applications to which intelligent processing may be applied to yield cost-effective automation. Typical examples include automated visual inspection and repetitive assembly. The technology required is recent and specialized, and is thus not widely known. VISION AND INFORMATION PROCESSING FOR AUTOMATION has arisen from a short course given by the authors to introduce potential users to the technology. Its content is a development and extension of material presented in the course. The objective of the book is to introduce readers to modern concepts and techniques basic to intelligent automation, and explain how these are applied to prac tical problems. Its emphasis is on machine vision. Intelligent instrumentation is concerned with processing infor mation, and an appreciation of the nature of information is essential in configuring instrumentation to handle it effiCiently. An understand ing of the fundamental principles of efficient computation and of the way in which machines make decisions is vital for the same reasons. Selection of appropriate sensing (e.g., camera type and configuration), of illumination, of hardware for processing (microchip or parallel processor?) to give most effective information flow, and of the most appropriate processing algorithms is critical in obtaining an optimal solution. Analysis of performance, to demonstrate that requirements have been met, and to identify the causes if they have not, is also important. All of these topics are covered in this volume."

New Algorithms, Architectures and Applications for Reconfigurable Computing (Hardcover, 2005 ed.): Patrick Lysaght, Wolfgang... New Algorithms, Architectures and Applications for Reconfigurable Computing (Hardcover, 2005 ed.)
Patrick Lysaght, Wolfgang Rosenstiel
R4,188 Discovery Miles 41 880 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

New Algorithms, Architectures and Applications for Reconfigurable Computing consists of a collection of contributions from the authors of some of the best papers from the Field Programmable Logic conference (FPLa (TM)03) and the Design and Test Europe conference (DATEa (TM)03). In all, seventy-nine authors, from research teams from all over the world, were invited to present their latest research in the extended format permitted by this special volume. The result is a valuable book that is a unique record of the state of the art in research into field programmable logic and reconfigurable computing.

The contributions are organized into twenty-four chapters and are grouped into three main categories: architectures, tools and applications. Within these three broad areas the most strongly represented themes are coarse-grained architectures; dynamically reconfigurable and multi-context architectures; tools for coarse-grained and reconfigurable architectures; networking, security and encryption applications.

Field programmable logic and reconfigurable computing are exciting research disciplines that span the traditional boundaries of electronic engineering and computer science. When the skills of both research communities are combined to address the challenges of a single research discipline they serve as a catalyst for innovative research. The work reported in the chapters of this book captures that spirit of that innovation.

Yield Simulation for Integrated Circuits (Hardcover, 1987 ed.): D.M. Walker Yield Simulation for Integrated Circuits (Hardcover, 1987 ed.)
D.M. Walker
R4,128 Discovery Miles 41 280 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

In the summer of 1981 I was asked to consider the possibility of manufacturing a 600,000 transistor microprocessor in 1985. It was clear that the technology would only be capable of manufacturing 100,000-200,000 transistor chips with acceptable yields. The control store ROM occupied approximately half of the chip area, so I considered adding spare rows and columns to increase ROM yield. Laser-programmed polysilicon fuses would be used to switch between good and bad circuits. Since only half the chip area would have redundancy, I was concerned that the increase in yield would not outweigh the increased costs of testing and redundancy programming. The fabrication technology did not yet exist, so I was unable to experimentally verify the benefits of redundancy. When the technology did become available, it would be too late in the development schedule to spend time running test chips. The yield analysis had to be done analytically or by simulation. Analytic yield analysis techniques did not offer sufficient accuracy for dealing with complex structures. The simulation techniques then available were very labor-intensive and seemed more suitable for redundant memories and other very regular structures [Stapper 80J. I wanted a simulator that would allow me to evaluate the yield of arbitrary redundant layouts, hence I termed such a simulator a layout or yield simulator. Since I was unable to convince anyone to build such a simulator for me, I embarked on the research myself.

Jahangir Hossain, Hemanshu Roy Pota
R2,691 Discovery Miles 26 910 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book makes the area of integration of renewable energy into the existing electricity grid accessible to engineers and researchers. This is a self-contained text which has models of power system devices and control theory necessary to understand and tune controllers in use currently. The new research in renewable energy integration is put into perspective by comparing the change in the system dynamics as compared to the traditional electricity grid. The emergence of the voltage stability problem is motivated by extensive examples. Various methods to mitigate this problem are discussed bringing out their merits clearly. As a solution to the voltage stability problem, the book covers the use of FACTS devices and basic control methods. An important contribution of this book is to introduce advanced control methods for voltage stability. It covers the application of output feedback methods with a special emphasis on how to bound modelling uncertainties and the use of robust control theory to design controllers for practical power systems. Special emphasis is given to designing controllers for FACTS devices to improve low-voltage ride-through capability of induction generators. As generally PV is connected in low voltage distribution area, this book also provides a systematic control design for the PV unit in distribution systems. The theory is amply illustrated with large IEEE Test systems with multiple generators and dynamic load. Controllers are designed using Matlab and tested using full system models in PSSE.

Radio Design in Nanometer Technologies (Hardcover, 2006 ed.): Mohammed Ismail, Delia R. de Llera Gonzalez Radio Design in Nanometer Technologies (Hardcover, 2006 ed.)
Mohammed Ismail, Delia R. de Llera Gonzalez
R2,694 Discovery Miles 26 940 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Radio Design in Nanometer Technologies addresses current trends and future directions in radio design for wireless applications. As radio transceivers constitute the major bottleneck in a wireless chipset in terms of power consumption and die size, the radio must be designed in the context of the entire system, end to end. Therefore the book will address wireless systems as well as the DSP parts before it gets into coverage of radio design issues. To that end, the book contains three parts:

Part 1: a general part discussing current and future wireless networks, chipset evolution over the past decade and ending with a discussion on radio requirements for software defined radio(SDR).

Part 2: will focus on the digital baseband of a wireless chip set, flexible DSP cores for multi-standard wireless platforms and system-on-chip SoC implementation and design flow issues.

Part 3: will be devoted to radio design issues starting at the transceiver level and going down to discuss critical issues facing design of future multi band multi standard radios for emerging wireless standards such as UMTS, WiMaX, MIMO and WLAN in a way that is consistent with the prevailing vision of SDR.

As such, the book is the first volume that looks at the integrated radio design problem as a "piece of a big puzzle," namely the entire chipset or single chip that builds an entire wireless system. This is the only way to successfully design radios to meet the stringent demands of todaya (TM)s increasingly complex wireless systems.

Scalable Network Monitoring in High Speed Networks (Hardcover, 2011 ed.): Baek-Young Choi, Zhi-Li Zhang, David Hung-Chang Du Scalable Network Monitoring in High Speed Networks (Hardcover, 2011 ed.)
Baek-Young Choi, Zhi-Li Zhang, David Hung-Chang Du
R1,408 Discovery Miles 14 080 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Network monitoring serves as the basis for a wide scope of network, engineering and management operations. Precise network monitoring involves inspecting every packet traversing in a network. However, this is not feasible with future high-speed networks, due to significant overheads of processing, storing, and transferring measured data. Network Monitoring in High Speed Networks presents accurate measurement schemes from both traffic and performance perspectives, and introduces adaptive sampling techniques for various granularities of traffic measurement. The techniques allow monitoring systems to control the accuracy of estimations, and adapt sampling probability dynamically according to traffic conditions. The issues surrounding network delays for practical performance monitoring are discussed in the second part of this book. Case studies based on real operational network traces are provided throughout this book. Network Monitoring in High Speed Networks is designed as a secondary text or reference book for advanced-level students and researchers concentrating on computer science and electrical engineering. Professionals working within the networking industry will also find this book useful.
